MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA
Chapter 108: Mirian’s Messy Love Life

Chapter 108: Mirian’s Messy Love Life

Mirian’s spine tingled with a cold dread as Ryder’s words made her heart sink. "B– but he’s not my mate," she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ryder’s gaze locked onto the feather and bone tangled in her hair. "Yet, you accepted his proposal," he pointed out, his tone laced with a hint of amusement. "You accepted to be his chosen mate."

Mirian’s face burned with a mix of indignation and embarrassment. "My wolf didn’t stir or react like when we first found our mate."

Ryder’s brow arched, his expression a mask of amusement, unwilling to reveal more, savoring the mystery.

In their past life, Detroit and Marcus had been her adopted brothers, they loved and pampered her to a fault. Had her mate not showed up, perhaps, she would have ended up mating one of them.

And now, the moon goddess had once again played their dates like a game of chess, moving the pieces of their lives like pawns on a chessboard.

The Dark Snow Pack, branded as "unbelievers," had been cursed by the goddess. They were denied the chance to find their destined mates. And even if by chance, they found each other, their love would be far from smooth sailing.

A rival would inevitably emerge, vying for the she-wolf’s heart. The cruel twist of fate was that, more often than not - 99 times out of 100 - the she-wolf’s heart would be divided, most of the time, ending up in reverse harem – two men, one woman.

But in this peculiar case, Mirian was not the destined mate of either Detroit or Marcus. Instead, the trio was bound by the lingering threads of affection from their past lives.

The irony was not lost on Ryder, who found it darkly amusing that Marcus and Detroit, two of his most stubborn warriors, were now interested in one woman - a woman who had once been their beloved little sister.

"Hahahaha!" Ryder’s laughter echoed through the air, a low, menacing sound that sent shivers down Mirian’s spine. "Your moon goddess is so predictable," he sneered, "a ruthless puppeteer, manipulating lives for her own twisted amusement."

His eyes glinted with mirth, and he seemed to relish the chaos surrounding them. Mirian’s face burned with indignation. "Ryder! That’s blasphe–!" she protested.

But Ryder cut her off, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Save it, Mirian. That’s who you choose to worship." He took a step closer, his face inches from hers, holding her gaze with fierce intensity. "Instead of worrying about my Luna and me, why not focus on your own messy love life?"

Mirian’s heart trembled as she took a step, her mind reeling with the weight of her predicament. Her life was indeed a tangled mess. She’d told Luna Reana how she felt about Detroit, but the Luna had been silent, and now, Mirian had unknowingly accepted Detroit’s proposal - the feather and bone in her hair.

Rejecting him now would come at a steep price, as Ryder had so bluntly pointed out. Detroit might rally the Dark Snow Pack to unleash his wrath upon her Black Moon Pack, believing they’d been the cause of her rejection.

Mirian felt a headache. Why would the moon goddess treat her this way? In what way had she offended that woman? Mirian had been a loyal devotee – cleaning her temple, offering sacrifices, and doing everything in her power to appease her, yet, the goddess had never deemed it fit to bestow her favors upon Mirian.

For the first time, Mirian felt truly aggrieved, counting what the moon goddess had done to her.

First, the goddess had permitted her family to fall into abject poverty, leaving them vulnerable to Xavier’s merciless bullying. Then, she had stood idly by as Mirian’s destined mate publicly rejected and ridiculed her, leaving her heart shattered and her dignity bruised.

The goddess had remained silent, unmoved as Xavier raped and used her. And now, as if she hadn’t had enough troubles, the moon goddess had once again allowed her to be affectionate to Detroit, an infidel, a member of the Dark Snow Pack.

Mirian seethed with resentment and anger, this time, more than she’d known before. She believed she’d not done anything to the moon goddess to deserve this treatment.

Perhaps, Ryder was right. Worshiping that woman was a mistake.

On cue, Ryder dropped another bomb, "Your goddess seemed to have fucked you up pretty badly, Mirian. What did you do to her?" He clicked his tongue, "tsk. tsk. tsk. It’s time you and your family stop worshiping her, don’t you think?" He patted her shoulder, "Poor, innocent Mirian." With that, he walked past her and knocked on the Luna’s door.

What Mirian didn’t know was that Ryder had promised to make the moon goddess a forgotten relic. And if she and her family joined the unbelievers, disregarding worshipping the moon goddess, with her skills as a gossip connoisseur, she could influence a lot more werewolves like her, who also found the moon goddess unfair.

Also, the moon goddess and every other goddess in the Celestial Palace thrived on the werewolves’ worship. If the werewolves revolted and stopped worshiping them, there would be trouble in the Celestial Palace - the goddesses might lose their powers.

...

Even as Mirian walked towards the servant quarters. Her mind was preoccupied, until, suddenly a hand clamped down on her arm, jerking her to a sudden stop. Before she could react, she was dragged away, her feet stumbling to keep pace with the forceful tug.

"Xavier!" her heart shrieked in terror, as dread washed over her like a chilling wave. "Let me go! Th– the Luna sent me on an errand," she stuttered, but he paid her no heed, his grip unyielding as he dragged her towards the woods behind the servant quarters.

Mirian’s heart clenched with foreboding, knowing that if she followed him into those shadows, she’d be doomed. Summoning every last shred of courage, she steeled herself for a desperate struggle. Her claws elongated, sharp and deadly, and with a swift, precise motion, she slashed them across Xavier’s arm.
