MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA
Chapter 101: Choose An Alpha

Chapter 101: Choose An Alpha

The god of war’s gaze narrowed slightly, his piercing red eyes fixed intently on Aethera’s face. He took another step closer, his movements deliberate, and replied, "To end this madness." His voice was low, even, but with an undercurrent of tension, like the quiet before a storm.

Aethera’s gaze locked onto his, her eyes burning with an otherworldly intensity, as she whispered, "This has nothing to do with you... ah, it does, your son will die if you don’t stop me, right?" she cackled maniacally, her voice rising to a frenzied pitch, as the orb that had now resembled a gigantic round portal of some sort, covered a section of the palace, casting an eerie, pulsating glow over the ruined landscape. "He made me do this, and now, I’ll find him and destroy him."

The god of war’s expression remained impassive, but a flicker of concern danced in his piercing red gaze, and he growled, "You wouldn’t dare harm him, Aethera. You know the consequences."

Aethera’s cackling grew louder, more hysterical, as she replied, "Consequences? Ha! I’m beyond that now. I’ll show you all what true power looks like... and your precious son will be the first to fall!"

"You have to live past this before you can even think about that." Suddenly, thousands of swords appeared out of nowhere, attacking the portal and Aethera.

...

Three days had passed since the catastrophe struck the Southern Mainlands. The packs’ homes were reduced to rubble, their people scattered or killed. Survivors were forced to flee, only to face the fury of nature. The once-thriving communities were now a distant memory, replaced by the stark reality of destruction and despair.

The scale of the devastation was catastrophic. Yet, amidst the chaos, the human village remained eerily intact, protected by an enormous dome. The monsters, too, seemed to have been shielded in the forests.

However, Zeta Detroit and his group were cruelly cut off from the dome’s protection, leaving them to fend for themselves against the merciless forces of nature.

It seemed as though the gods themselves were only protecting their own. But just like Reana and her group, the Southern islands, too, were firmly shielded by domes, leaving the werewolves reeling in confusion as tsunamis raged against the protective barriers.

Meanwhile, the war in the Celestial Palace raged on for seven days and seven nights, though time itself seemed distorted amidst the chaos. The sky was a perpetual blanket of night, illuminated only by horrendous thunderclaps and strong winds that uprooted trees, flattened mountains, and shattered the very foundations of the world.

On the eighth day, a radiant light tore through the blanket of darkness, illuminating the ravaged landscape as the domes lifted.

But the survivors’ happiness was short-lived, as a dense fog suddenly rolled in, shrouding the world in an impenetrable mist. The light struggled to pierce the fog’s veil, casting an eerie gloom over the devastated terrain.

Undeterred, the desperate and weary Reana stumbled forward, away from the camp, wanting to go search for Ryder.

But Kira blocked her path. "Luna, it’s not safe," she said, "You can’t go out there. The world is unpredictable, and the dangers are countless."

Reana’s determination faltered for a moment, her foot hovering above the ground as she weighed the risks.

But her concern for Ryder’s safety soon won out. "Ryder is alive," she said, her voice firm with conviction. "He could be stuck somewhere, injured, and in need of help."

Kira’s expression turned grim, her eyes clouding with doubt. "He could also be dead," she pressed, her voice gentle but unyielding.

Reana’s eyes flashed with a fierce intensity, her gaze icy as she challenged her Gamma. "Did you see his lifeless body to arrive at that conclusion?" she demanded, her voice low and even.

Kira’s head dropped, her shoulders sagging in submission. After a weighted silence, she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "If you’re going out there, we’ll come with you."

Reana’s expression remained resolute, her voice firm. "No," she objected. "We don’t know what’s out there or what has happened. When the fog clears, you’ll take the rest and return to the pack."

Reana’s gaze locked onto Kira’s, her eyes burning with a fierce determination. "The pack members may have survived, just like we did. Find out what’s happening, and prepare for our return. I need to know that they’re safe, that our pack is secure."

Reana’s voice softened, her expression etched with concern. "I’ll be fine, Kira. I have to do this. I have to find Ryder."

Kira’s jaw clenched, her teeth gritted in frustration. Her fists tightened at her sides, her eyes blazing with a fierce protest. But she knew better than to defy her Luna’s orders. With a stiff nod, she acquiesced, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yes, Luna."

Reana’s gaze lingered on Kira’s face for a moment, her eyes conveying a deep sense of gratitude and affection. Then, in a rare display of physical affection, she pulled Kira into a tight, warm hug. It was a gesture that caught Kira off guard, but one that spoke volumes about Reana’s trust and appreciation for her loyal Gamma.

"Thank you, Kira," Reana whispered, her voice filled with emotion, "for being here for me, for our pack. Take care of them, keep them safe. I’ll find Ryder and bring him home..."

Reana’s gaze faltered, her thoughts consumed by the uncertainty that shrouded her fate, her pack’s fate, and the world at large.

Truth be told, she wasn’t confident that her pack members were safe, or that Ryder was still out there, alive. A lump formed in her throat as she swallowed hard, unwilling to accept it.

Her fears threatened to overwhelm her, but she stubbornly held on to false hope. If she, the Luna, broke down, what would happen to her pack members who were staring at her with concern? What would happen to her loyal Gamma?

"If I don’t come back in seven days," her fists clenched. She didn’t want to die, but if Ryder died, she would have no reason to live anymore. "Choose an Alpha for the pack." Without giving Kira a chance to respond, Reana’s body began to shift, her limbs elongating, her senses heightening as she seamlessly transformed into her wolf.
