Chapter 78: Home alone - 9••
Silas’s POV
As we moved forward and went inside, everything felt new to me. I had never seen the inside of a prison before, and this was my first time experiencing one. Even though it gave off a horror vibe, it was still okay.
When I was climbing the stairs, Damon was holding my hand while Theron walked ahead of us. After climbing so many stairs, we finally stopped at a floor.
Theron unlocked the door to one of the cells, and as we stepped inside, I saw a man lying there. He looked like a corpse, but then, suddenly, that man sat up, startling me.
"Oh gosh, I thought he was dead!"
"No, shorty, he’s still alive," Theron replied.
I looked at the man carefully. When he had kidnapped me, he looked completely different. But now, in just one day, he suddenly looked old, as if he had aged overnight.
"Shorty, ask whatever you want to know," Theron said.
I was about to step forward, but Damon grabbed my hand to stop me. Still, I let go of his hand and stepped closer to that man.
"You’re from the church, right?"
As soon as I asked, the man’s head snapped up. His eyes were red, as if blood was leaking from them. Seeing that, I instinctively stepped back.
The man glared at me.
"How do you know about this...? I can see you’re sharp and beautiful. Now I understand why he wants you," the man said.
"Who are you talking about? And why does your temple need my blood? Tell me!"
"You won’t get any answers from me. Never... Moon Goddess, I am coming to you," the man declared.
And then, right in front of us, he bit his tongue off and died on the spot.
My legs trembled at the sight. Just then, Theron covered my eyes. I was shocked that he chose to kill himself rather than tell us the truth.
Even after we left the prison, I felt sick. The image of his severed tongue kept flashing in my mind, and I ended up puking. Theron patted my back as I bent over. But then, while catching my breath, I noticed something—blood on Theron’s stomach. It was visible through his shirt.
I quickly turned around as I finished puking and grabbed his shirt.
"What is this? Why is there blood here? Don’t tell me you’re hurt!"
"Haha... I’m not hurt. It’s just tomato ketchup. I was pranking you to see if you’d notice me or not," Theron said with a grin.
He’s lying again. I don’t understand why Theron lies so much. I can tell that’s not ketchup—it’s blood. Does he really think I can’t tell the difference?
"Whatever. It would be nice if you went to a doctor to get your wound treated," I said.
"I’m not hurt, though. But if you’re telling me to go, I’ll go. For now, let’s get in the car."
I sat in the backseat while Damon sat beside me. Theron started driving.
"Silas, how did you know he was from the temple?" Damon suddenly asked while I was looking outside. I turned to him.
"Do you remember the first time we met? You fought those thugs, and they were wearing outfits with the Moon’s symbol. That man was wearing the same thing," I explained.
"Ohh, so that’s why. You’re quite sharp, Silas. Did you figure this out on your own, or have you been to a temple before?"
I leaned back against the seat. "I used to go to temple ."
When I was ten, I used to go almost every day, praying to the Moon Goddess to bring my brother back. That’s where I first saw those outfits with the Moon symbol.
There was also a kid there—two years older than me—but he was more childish and pitiful than I was.
The church had taken him in and forced him to become a priest. But he didn’t want to. He used to cry while sitting in a corner when I found him. We played together every day.
He was like my personal diary. I told him everything that happened to me each day, and he did the same. But one day, Ciel said he wanted to come with me to church. I think he was curious about why I went there so often.
Ciel was also only ten, but his cunningness knew no limits.
When we reached the temple, I told Ciel to pray and went to my usual spot to meet that kid. We met, but we didn’t talk much because I told him Ciel had come with me.
The next day, Ciel came to me again, saying he wanted to go with me. When we arrived, I went to meet that kid, but he wasn’t there. So, I returned to Ciel. But when I got back, I saw Ciel talking to him. Then, Ciel introduced that kid as his friend, and the kid didn’t deny it.
After that, I stopped going to temple. The Moon Goddess couldn’t bear to see me happy. She only loved Ciel, just like my father did.
"Silas, are you alright?"
"Yes, Mr. Damon, don’t worry. I’m not weak."
"Shorty, you can be weak in front of me. I swear I won’t laugh at you," theron said with a smirk.
This punk always talks like this, lightening the mood.
"Can we drive faster? It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve seen the outside world. And Theron, why do you have a house in Dark Valley?"
As soon as I asked that question, Theron suddenly started coughing. It looked strange.
"Why are you coughing all of a sudden?" I frowned.
"It’s nothing. I’m just sick and can’t talk anymore," he muttered.
Him? Not talking? Now that’s something new and strange.
The car came to a sudden stop as soon as we exited the Dark Valley. But instead of stopping at the building where I lived, Theron pulled up in front of the most luxurious building I had ever seen.
"Theron, this isn’t where I live," I said, confused.
"I live here," Damon said casually. "And you’re going to stay with me until I find a safe place for you."
