Chapter 69: Bite mark

Silas’s POV

As we were eating, suddenly—

"Silas, what happened to your hand? Why is there a bandage on it?" Atlas asked.

My attention also went to the bandage, and then I remembered—the bite mark.

That’s why the doctor applied the bandage. I hadn’t taken it off yet since the mark hadn’t disappeared.

"It’s just a scratch, nothing to worry about," I said.

"Silas, let me see," Nekol insisted.

But I shook my head and continued eating. We ate so much, and by the afternoon, we finally reached home.

After a while, Nekol suddenly got a call from his family, who live out of town. They needed him back immediately, so he had to leave.

"I already called Mr. Damon, and he gave me a week off, but I’m more worried about you, Silas," Nekol said.

"I’m not a kid, Nekol, so don’t worry about me."

"Atlas, take good care of Silas for a week, okay?"

Atlas nodded with a determined face. Man, Nekol was totally acting like a mother leaving her child at a dorm.

Nekol packed his bag and left in his car. After that, only Atlas and I were left in the house.

Just then, Atlas received a call and went into the kitchen to talk. After a while, he came back.

"Silas... Boss has called you to the company right now. Let’s go."

"To the company? But why?"

"I don’t know for now. Let’s just go."

I quickly put on my shoes. I was already wearing a nice outfit, so why bother changing? Then we left.

When we arrived at the company and went inside, Atlas remained standing outside the office while I went in alone. As I stepped inside, I didn’t see anyone—the whole office was empty.

I sat down on the sofa. On the table in front of me was a chocolate cake, its delicious aroma tempting me to eat it.

But how could I just eat it? So I stopped myself.

Just then, Damon walked out from a room inside his office, wiping his hands.

"Mr. Damon," I stood up.

"Relax. Sit down. That cake is for you—eat it," he said.

I quickly sat down, picked up the spoon, and started eating the cake. It melted in my mouth—so sweet and delicious. Just then, I noticed Damon sitting in front of me, watching me.

"If you want to eat too, just say it," I said.

"No, I don’t want to eat. But you seem to be enjoying it. Do you like this flavor, or do you usually like cakes?"

"I like everything," I replied while eating.

"So, how was your audition today? Did you do well?"

The moment I heard him, I suddenly choked.

"Cough, cough, cough—"

"There, there. Slow down. No one is going to take your cake. Here, drink some water," he said, handing me a glass.

I quickly gulped it down and glanced at Damon.

"My audition didn’t go well. I made a lot of mistakes while performing."

"Really? What kind of mistakes? Tell me, so I can arrange training for you."

Oh man, why was he asking this? Didn’t Jeren already explain everything to him? Well, I had no choice but to lie.

"Wait... why is there a bandage on your hand? What happened?" He asked

Suddenly, Damon stood up and sat beside me, grabbing my hand. But I quickly pulled it away from his grip.

"It’s nothing, Mr. Damon. Don’t worry, it’s just a scratch. And about the audition... I don’t think they’ll select me because there were way better artists there."

Damon grabbed my hand again, looking straight into my eyes.

"Are you telling the truth?"

"Of course I am. Why would I lie to you?"

Just then, Damon suddenly pulled off the bandage. My eyes widened.

"What is this, Silas? Whose bite mark is this? Tell me, who bit you?"

I quickly pulled my hand back and covered the mark with my palm.

"None of your business, whoever bit me," I said.

Damon’s face suddenly became serious.

"Did Ciel bite you when you slapped him?"

Oh yeah, I could just say it was Ciel’s bite. I didn’t want to tell him it was actually from his brother—because I knew he’d start asking even more questions.

"Yes, he’s the one who bit me. But no one paid attention to my wound. They only gave him sympathy."

"Really?" Damon rubbed his fingers over the bite mark.

"Silas... since when did you learn to lie?"

My heart skipped a beat.

How did he find out I was lying? Did Kael tell him everything? Is that why he called me here?

"What are you talking about, Damon?"

"Why did you give up and didn’t do an audition?"

What?! How does he know about this?! Did Jeren call him and tell him everything? Didn’t I tell him to explain things to Damon? But instead, he told the truth—like he wanted Damon to scold me.

"Wh-Who told you I gave up?"

"That doesn’t matter."

Oh gosh, what now? Was he going to scold me or something?

"Wait, Mr. Damon, before you yell at me, let me tell you why I gave up on that role."

"Silas, I’m not asking for an explanation. But if you want to tell me, you can."

"Well, that character wasn’t for me. As you already know, I didn’t have anyone I could rely on like that character did, so I couldn’t understand what they would have felt."

I explained to Damon how I felt and why I didn’t want to act as that character. As I spoke, he listened to me attentively.

"Okay, I understand. But next time, let me know beforehand if you’re going to do something like this."

What? He didn’t scold me? I thought he would yell at me.

"No more questions. Finish your cake now."

As he said that, I continued eating and quickly finished the cake since it was small.

Damon brought a new bandage and carefully applied it over the bite mark again.
