Chapter 142: Lupin pack - 37

Silas’s POV

When Damon was running with my side face resting on him, I was looking around. Despite my weight, he ran tirelessly.

Then, I noticed the sea beside us. I quickly sat up and glanced around, realizing we were in a place filled with ships and boats, anchored at the other side of the sea.

Suddenly, Damon stopped.

"Silas, come down," he said.

I quickly jumped down from him, and he began sniffing around, moving here and there. Meanwhile, I stood there, watching him, my eyes darting everywhere to ensure there were no wolves or ghosts around.

But I wasn’t some super wolf who could sense their presence. I didn’t know how Damon could do it. Of course, he was an incredible person, but even if he was, he was still my brother’s mate—I shouldn’t forget that.

When I looked back at where Damon had been, he was gone. I glanced around and found myself standing there alone.

That familiar, unsettling feeling began to haunt me again, and I started to tremble when—

"Hey," I heard a voice. It startled me, but when I turned around, I saw Damon.

"Where did you go, Damon? You know I was scared you’d leave me alone here too."

"I didn’t know you’d feel that way just from me leaving for a moment," he replied, his voice sounding husky—probably because he was still in his true form.

"But where did you go?" I asked.

"I went to look around. There’s no one here except us, so let’s stay in one of the ships. It’s not safe to stay outside at night."

"Have you forgotten about your brothers? What if they return to the hospital, face danger, and worry about you? Velric is with them—what if he cries when he doesn’t see me?"

We had come a long way while running, so it was natural for me to be concerned. Who knows what could happen to them, and I didn’t want anything bad to happen.

"Silas, you’re really slow... Didn’t you notice? What we saw was an illusion. That means the soldiers with them must have had ulterior motives. But even if they face danger, don’t worry—my brothers are strong."

Well, he was right. Theron and Kael were there, so there was nothing to worry about. But Lysander and Velric couldn’t fight—what if something happened to them?

Then again, I knew Theron and Kael wouldn’t let anything happen, so for now, we needed to focus on ourselves.

After Damon checked the ships, we found one that was supposed to leave but got stuck due to the virus outbreak.

We both boarded the ship. It was my first time seeing a ship in real life—I had no idea where to go or what to do.

Damon took the lead, checking every room, every office, even the kitchen. In the kitchen, we found some frozen food.

"Grab this food and put it in the oven," he instructed.

I stared at him. We didn’t even know how long the food had been there—whether it was expired or not.

"What if it’s expired? We’ll get sick."

"It’s not expired. Just do as I say, Silas."

Like I had a choice—I grabbed the food and put it in the oven, but I didn’t know what buttons to press. I’d never used an oven before.

"Don’t tell me you don’t even know how to use it," Damon remarked.

I smiled awkwardly because, indeed, I didn’t know. Thankfully, Damon instructed me on what to press, and after five minutes, the food was heated.

I served the curry and rice onto plates and grabbed some water, following Damon as he led the way out.

He sniffed around, guiding us until we found a room with its door already open. He went in first, checking for any danger, and then invited me in.

"Lock the door from the inside," he said.

I did as he told me, placing the curry and water on the table. Damon remained in his true form, sitting on the ground beside the table. It almost felt like I had a giant pet with me.

"Aren’t you going to shift back?" I asked.

"Nope. In this form, I can protect you better," he replied.

"You can protect me just as well in your human form too," I argued, but he ignored me, resting his head on his knees and staring ahead.

"What about eating? I can’t eat this alone. Come on, shift back and have a meal with me."

I was hungry, so I started to eat, but as I did, he suddenly turned to look at me. It made me feel guilty, like I had done something wrong.

"If you want, I can feed you too since you probably can’t eat on your own, right?"

"Thanks for your kind gesture, Silas, but I’m really not hungry. Usually, I don’t even eat dinner sometimes, so it’s a habit."

"Damon, you know it’s a very bad habit to skip dinner. If we don’t eat, we won’t have strength, and without strength, how are we going to work?"

I can’t even imagine skipping my dinner, man—on an empty stomach, I wouldn’t even be able to fall asleep, let alone do any work.

"If you’re saying it’s a bad habit, then I won’t skip my dinner next time, okay? But for now, just finish your dinner."

"Okay."

Well, I did offer him to eat, but he refused—it’s his fault. So even if he complains later that I ate dinner alone, it’s not my fault.

in the end, he didn’t eat anything. Eventually, we lay down on the bed together. It was a king-size bed, so there was enough space for both of us—otherwise, I’d have to sleep on the floor.

Just as I was lost in thought, Damon’s fur brushed against me. It felt smooth and nice, so I reached out to rub his back. But the moment I did, he suddenly shifted back to his human form and pinned me down in a second.
