Chapter 284: Episode 26.5 The Transformation Of A Fragment
Chapter 284: Episode 26.5 The Transformation Of A Fragment
Bai Tingfeng’s plan was clear and decisive. Hitting two birds with one stone.
While his blood curse consumes him, he will quickly move, take the spiritual pill, and try to conquer the Baihu’s fragment. He will let his rampaging self deal with the monster while trying to take control of that untamed power from the inside.
It was a risky plan. A desperate move that guarantees no success.
However, Bai Tingfeng is already in a grave situation; thus, he thinks it wouldn’t hurt much if he resorts to desperate means.
Bai Tingfeng slipped into the deepest layer of his consciousness with a clear purpose. However, the view that welcomed him astounded him.
"What on earth happened here?" Bai Tingfeng asked as he looked around the surroundings. "Is this still my mind?"
Gone are the tranquil fields of verdant green grass. Gone are the awe-spiring blue sky and the gentle wind that used to caress his hair.
The environment of his consciousness is not what it used to be.
All Bai Tingfeng could see was black darkness. It was weird because, for one, Bai Tingfeng could perfectly see his body, and aside from that, it was nothing but nothingness.
It’s like everything aside from his spiritual body was erased.
’Is this what my mind looks like once the blood curse kicks in?’ Bai Tingfeng wondered. It never crossed his mind that he died the instant his body was taken over. He might be afraid of his destructive abilities when he’s in berserk mode, but he has complete confidence in the beastly instinct of the Baihu’s fragment.
"There’s no way that I died."
His bloodthirsty predator mode aside, there is no way that Shen Yuan will let him be unalive, that he is confident of.
’By the way, where the hell is the Baihu’s fragment?’ Bai Tingfeng asked himself.
Then, something moved in his peripheral vision.
Out of instinct, Bai Tingfeng threw himself backward and rolled to the ground. Bai Tingfeng looked up at where he had been standing just seconds before and was shocked.
"Who are you?" Bai Tingfeng asked the towering person before him. It was shocking to see other people here in his mindscape, but what was more baffling was that the person standing before him had his likeness from A to Z.
From the face, nose, eyebrows, and almost everything, Bai Tingfeng and the man were identical.
The only difference between them is the man’s long ashen hair that falls fluidly on the man’s lower back and the vivid black stripes that adorn his chiseled naked body. The man’s eyes are like his, sharp and golden.
In the man’s hand was a familiar bright white sword aura, his Perpetual Light.
"Impossible," It didn’t take long for Bai Tingfeng to piece things together. This person was the white tiger!
The Baihu’s fragment!
But how come it is in human form now? The Qilin didn’t tell them anything about its ability to shapeshift. Is this because it is currently in control of his body now?
Bai Tingfeng had a lot of questions in mind. It’s too bad he’s not in the situation to ask for answers.
Suddenly, the fragment, who is in human form, charged at him, swinging the mighty sword aura.
"Damn!" Bai Tingfeng cursed out loud when, all of a sudden, the white saber was an inch away from cutting his neck.
He instinctively threw his back to the ground and rolled to the side to save himself.
With a mighty push of his lower body, he stood up.
"What on earth is that?" Bai Tingfeng was confused and shaken.
Something unbelievable happened!
He failed to see his opponent’s movement!
It was so quick and abrupt that he almost thought the humanoid fragment was teleporting.
It would be an insult to say it is moving at the speed of light!
Little did he know that what he saw now was the manifestation of his full potential. This is how he moves when he’s in a berserk state.
Bai Tingfeng has never witnessed this before since he’s totally blacked out whenever his curse kicks in.
He witnessed it now, thanks to his timely intake of the spiritual pill. As it turns out, he connected with the Baihu’s fragment when it was at its strongest.
Bai Tingfeng was shocked and in awe. But at the same time, his vigilance is through the roof.
Why?
Well, he could feel that compared to the white tiger he formerly wrestled, the guy before him was flooding with power. Its presence even dwarfed the Eight-Headed Hydra.
Now, Bai Tingfeng is sure he will not die quickly while his body is rampaging. With a power like this, surely, his berserk body will manage well when battling against the Eight-Headed Hydra.
However, it is also bad news for him since he’s trying to tame the Baihu’s fragment when it is in its strongest state like this.
"Fighting for dominance this time wouldn’t be that easy," Bai Tingfeng uttered, gritting his teeth.
Eight-Headed Hydra is in the real world, and Baihu’s fragment is in its strongest mode; Bai Tingfeng is up for an uphill battle now.
Before the alpha had the time to breathe, his opponent charged at him at a speed that he could hardly see. That speaks volumes since, with the white sword aura, Bai Tingfeng should be able to see at least an afterimage in this total darkness.
"Not so fast!" Thanks to his instincts, Bai Tingfeng spat as he sidestepped the sword aura coming from above.
Its shining blade looked so long that it seemed endless looking from below and disgustingly sharp— sharper than his usual Perpetual Light!
Just one wrong move, and he dies.
The alpha’s warning bells are blaring. But at the same time, he was excited.
Indeed, the power he’s witnessing is dangerous to anyone fighting against it. However, if it is under his control, there’s no saying what he can and can’t do. He will be unrivaled.
"If I were this strong, I wouldn’t have any problems protecting my family!" Bai Tingfeng exclaimed deep inside. He grabbed his opponent’s wrist and threw it to the ground.
Although the Baihu fragment was strong, it lacked techniques to defend itself against human martial arts, which Bai Tingfeng was well-trained. It fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Bai Tingfeng looked at it with determination.
Now, what he wanted before anything else was to own this power.
The two tackled on the ground, one brandishing his fist while the other was effortlessly swinging the white sword aura.
Bai Tingfeng was both in awe and vigilant throughout the struggles as the white sword aura freely changed in size and length.
The Perpetual Light’s newly-discovered unpredictability can cost Bai Tingfeng his life once he makes a minor mistake.
"This is no joke," Bai Tingfeng uttered breathlessly as he jumped backward to put distance between them.
It is unfair that he can use powers while he is here struggling.
"If Shen Yuan is in my place, what will he do?" Bai Tingfeng thought for a moment. He doesn’t know why he had such thoughts during this critical time.
He was here facing a formidable enemy armed with a mighty sword aura while he had nothing but his body. He’s clearly at a disadvantage. He must not be distracted.
However, he can’t help but think about his husband.
’If it was Shen Yuan, that beloved fox spirit of his will probably do something crazy.’
Bai Tingfeng thought that as he saw the flash of the Perpetual Light coming towards him. Then, something clicked within him.
"Right, Shen Yuan will do that," Bai Tingfeng uttered under his breath. Then, without looking ahead, he solidified his stance and didn’t move an inch.
Slash! The sword aura of the Baihu’s fragment came from above to rip him from to toe. However, it was ultimately stopped by Bai Tingfeng’s bare hands.
Clasping his hands together and not minding the pain that the sword aura caused as it pressed against him, Bai Tingfeng looked at his doppelganger, the Baihu’s fragment.
"I’ve been defending against you all this time. It seems like I stupidly forgot something," Bai Tingfeng said through gritted teeth. "This sword aura, the Perpetual Light, is supposedly mine. I should be the one holding it and not you."
Bai Tingfeng said a weird feeling of satisfaction and confidence surged at this moment.
He grabbed the sword aura as if holding it on the hilt with his bare hands.
"Go on. Stab me. Once you push the sword forward, I will take back my sword aura," Bai Tingfeng smiled. That is not a threat. He was determined to steal the sword aura back to him.
And as if to show his commitment, Bai Tingfeng pushed and shook the sword aura.
The mythical Baihu may be incapable of speaking or thinking, but it is not a fool. It could sense Bai Tingfeng’s attempt to steal the sword’s aura.
It willed the Perpetual Light to shrink. It also amplified the density of the aura, making it lethally sharper.
"This is my sword, aura. You can’t take it away from me!" Bai Tingfeng groaned and pulled the light blade.
It was painful as it felt like it cut his real body in the real world, but letting go of this sword aura would mean giving up.
He’s a swordmaster and powerful when he swings around his sword. Once he steals the sword aura from the Baihu’s fragment, even just a moment, he can quickly gain the upper hand.
This is a rare chance to actually beat the Baihu’s fragment!
"I admit that because of my troubled past, I was once afraid of my full power. I am reluctant to use it against anything except monsters," Bai Tingfeng’s grip became firmer. "I’m scared of my own power.
If he can only bleed inside his consciousness, then there’s probably a pool of blood below him.
However, he didn’t care about that at all.
"But I am in a situation where I must have the power to protect my family. I’m perfectly fine with throwing away my past baggage and bravely suffering all kinds of pain to gain access to the power I was once afraid of!" Bai Tingfeng roared.
Each of his words caused the sword aura to tremble. Bai Tingfeng didn’t notice that as he was focused on keeping the sword of light in his hands. Besides, his sense of touch is clouded by the searing pain from the blade.
"I sincerely respect you, great Baihu’s fragment, but if I—" Bai Tingfeng’s words were drowned by the sudden burst of light from the sword aura. It flooded his sense of sight.
"Human child..." A mysterious voice suddenly called him.
