Pregnancy jokes aside, Bai Tingfeng rushed head-first to set up an impromptu outing for his small family. He didn’t give in to Shen Yuan’s compromise of sticking around his office to let him do some work. Instead, he booked a nice and cozy place outside the city to stay for a few days before his scheduled dungeon dive arrived.

The big excuse he used to shut Shen Yuan up from protesting is the ever-effective Yanyan and family card. He said that he just wanted to make up for the times they didn’t have time to go out as a family and Yanyan deserves to experience what it is like to be in a family outing.

Needless to say, it was a successful pitch.

It was a good enough reason to hide that he also set everything up so he could spend a romantic time with Shen Yuan.

Well, he hadn’t forgotten that he challenged himself to make Shen Yuan beg for his touch so he might as well do something to make it happen.

That’s why he chose to go to a place where they could get naked and—

"I swear if you didn’t choose a good, old-fashioned hot spring, I wouldn’t let you drag me to the far north," Shen Yuan huffed from his side.

The three of them had taken seats in the backseat of their bullet-proof car with Yanyan sitting in his booster seat in the middle. The little boy fiddling with his tablet, too focused in playing the game version of his favorite cartoon.

If there’s anyone who could hear his daddy’s complaint and coquettishness asid from his Papa, it’s nobody but Assistant Su in the driver’s seat and Shen Yuan’s dog, Gu Jinpeng.

It was obvious to them that Shen Yuan was excited about this spontaneous trip. However, they didn’t have the tongue nor the position to point that out. Instead, they act like tamed horses with blinders and focus on the road.

"I know you must have missed it," Bai Tingfeng said with a small yet confident smile.

Shen Yuan rolled his eyes, silently suppressing his smile. Of course, he missed it. The majority of his life in the mortal world is spent in the land of the morning sun so the hot spring is like his backyard.

It’s a place he enjoys most.

Plus, the fact that they are heading to a countryside hot spring resort just outside the metro where the air is clean, and the trees are abundant tugs at his heartstrings as a fox spirit.

It hit home for him.

"I don’t need to look at your report card to say you’re not a "stupi-dent", Bai Tingfeng. You easily applied what you learned to win me over. Kudos to you."

In all fairness, ever since he dropped the truth bomb and said a significant portion of his life, Bai Tingfeng has acted more comfortably towards him. Not that it was a bad thing, or that he hated it.

He liked it because it made Bai Tingfeng’s thoughtfulness more noticeable.

His sassy gay ass is flattered every time a handsome man like Bai Tingfeng does nice things for him.

"Wait. What’s a stupi-dent?" Bai Tingfeng asked upon hearing an unfamiliar term.

"Duh, it means stupid student. Just a simple wordplay, Bai Tingfeng."

Shen Yuan turned to the two people seated in front and joked. "Didn’t they say that if the child is curious then it might be a genius? Behold, our child genius!"

Assistant Su bit his lips to stop his smile from spreading. No matter what, he shouldn’t laugh when his boss is ridiculed, right?

Gu Jinpeng, on the other hand, clapped quietly as support for his boss.

Bai Tinfeng laughed lowly. "I surely think no part of my body is childlike, Shen Yuan."

Oh, would you look at this? Bai Tingfeng finally learns how to make R-18 jokes. What an improvement!

"You can’t be too sure," Shen Yuan waved his index finger in Bai Tingfeng’s face. It is indeed an improvement, but someone needs to train more to reach his level.

"Last time I checked, you had something that reminded me of a baby’s leg."

The sudden cries of the tire, Gu Jinpeng’s choking coughs, and the dying cheerful game music inside the car made an elaborate orchestra for an obvious reason.

Well, at least it was obvious for adults.

"Uncle Su! Why do we need to stop so abruptly? Huhu the Fox was beaten by the thief cat because my hand slipped when you suddenly hit the brakes!" Yanyan whined in his creamy, kitten-like voice. "Is everything okay, Uncle Su?"

Games aside, the boy has the right to complain because if he weren’t safely wrapped up by the belts of his booster seat, and his parents’ reaction wasn’t quick enough, he would be thrown forward into the driver’s seat.

"I am sorry, Young Master. I am not completely focused on the road. A black cat suddenly jumped in front of the car."

"Ehem, is everything okay? Did we hit it?" Bai Tingfeng asked. It is unclear to him whether the cat is real or not. But for the sake of winning himself over the spreading heat on his groins and Shen Yuan’s effective innuendo, he asked anyway.

"That—" Assistant Su paused as if he saw something that shocked him. "I didn’t, Guild Master."

Judging by the reaction of his alpha assistant, the cat was not bullshit.

"Then let’s bring the cat to the side of the road. Staying in the middle of the highway isn’t exactly safe for cats even if they have nine lives to spare," Bai Tingfeng jokingly said after checking on his son.

He reached out to open the door to quickly help the poor feline. To his surprise, Shen Yuan grabbed his wrist first and pulled him back to his seat.

"Yuan?"

"Shh..." Shen Yuan put his finger over his lips. The omega’s eyes were sharp and alert. Danger is almost written visibly on his face.

This is the first time they saw Shen Yuan act like this. The three alphas and little cutie looked at Shen Yuan with their hearts almost high up in their throats.

What could make Shen Yuan be this vigilant? Even when confronted with a bloodthirsty fellow S-Class awakener, the omega is known for being nonchalant. Now, seeing that unbothered king in a defensive attitude made them feel nervous.

Bang!

"Daddy!"

"Ahhh!"

"Kyaaaaah!"

The inside of the car was filled with startled screams when a loud sound came from the car hood.

There, the shiny black cat is sitting, licking its paws while lazily looking at them with its glimmering gold eyes.

The furry fellow looks way too good-looking to be called a stray cat but all in all, it doesn’t appear freaky at all.

The fact that it’s pouncing in front of a moving car in the middle of a highway is the only shocking thing— that is if they are only looking through naked eyes.

Assistant Su and Yanyan have the most natural scream of terror while Bai Tingfeng... Well, the alpha has the most nonchalant reaction. In spite of everyone jumping up on their seats, he only flinched.

Shen Yuan was kind of expecting it though, considering that Bai Tingfeng is the peak of all tops. He would never scream like a banshee who is getting its first tooth extraction operation.

"Seriously, Gu Jinpeng? Are you a half-siren or something? I thought your scream would pierce my eardrums!"

"Master S-Shen," the terrifying top killer blushes at his blunder. "I apologize for that. I am quite bad at jump scares, is all."

Shen Yuan’s right eye twitched. Damn right, Mr. Big Phantom Killer. Where’s that menace of an assassin gone?

The celestial fox spirit averted his eyes from his assistant-slash-dog and focused on the cat before him. His eyes changed from their usual black orbs to a bright electrifying blue color and slowly, his overbearing divine fox spirit energy leaked from his body.

Hues of blue and white rose from his body as he bared his fangs at the seemingly harmless cat.

"Get the hell out of here," Shen Yuan hissed, much to everyone’s surprise.

"Yuan?" Bai Tingfeng looked at his husband questioningly. He didn’t say anything after that. He just let Shen Yuan do his own thing.

On the other hand, Yanyan reached for his daddy’s hand and squeezed it gently.

Shen Yuan was aware of the worry and questions around him but in the meantime, he focused on driving away the questionable black cat. The mana around him spiked until the cat finally opened its toothy mouth to meow. With one swish of its tail, it jumped down off their car’s hood.

Only then did Shen Yuan recall his energy back to his body and the air inside the car finally returned to normal.

Assistant Su and Gu Jinpeng who were unable to breathe for more than a minute finally heaved a sigh of relief.

Holy shit! That is a full-blown energy surge from an S-Class awakener! They thought they were under hydraulic pressure and would implode any minute! What’s with the cat that has Master Shen on edge? They never heard their boss hate cats!

"What’s with that, Yuan?" Bai Tingfeng could no longer hold back his curiosity.

"Nothing. I just thought I was feeling a nostalgic presence from that cat," Shen Yuan said clearly for everyone to hear. Then he whispered. "The presence of a demon spirit."
