Martial Arts Worlds -
Chapter 490 - 490: Rankings After First Event
Beep! Beep! Beep!
The sound of a beeping clock echoed throughout the air, and the spectators, still invested in the goings-on of the field, were suddenly reminded of the time.
They turned to the large screen and saw that the clock had struck—the event had officially ended—and then they turned to the final rankings.
"Unbelievable…"
"He went all the way to third…"
"Who is he? New Rakuya? I haven't even heard of that place before!"
Kiernan panted heavily, sweat dripping down his face as he tried to catch his breath, and then turned to the large screen.
It was really over—he could barely believe it.
"Goddamn it!"
The representatives cursed under their breaths, and some broke into tears—so many of them didn't receive a single point.
It was heartbreaking for them.
Kiernan dropped the ball down to the ground, closed his eyes in relaxation, and took a deep breath.
"You're lucky, Mr. New Rakuya. You reserved your stamina for the final push, while the rest of us had depleted all of our stamina in the first thirty minutes."
Sun walked past Kiernan with his hands inside his pockets and gazed at him briefly with an unimpressed look.
"You can barely stand, can't you? It must've taken every droplet of strength from you in that final minute. If the event lasted even ten seconds longer, you would've passed out, right?"
"Huff… huff… huff…"
Kiernan wiped the sweat off his forehead and looked at his retreating back—he didn't have words to refute his words—it was because everything he said was true.
It took everything out of him to hold Sun, Seo, and Zeus back for that one minute—it was a painful reminder about how far he was from them.
'I was lucky with the event chosen… I might not be so lucky in the future. Ah, shit, it isn't looking good.'
Kiernan grabbed his knees, hunched over, and spat on the ground—he then straightened his back and left the field amidst the cheering from the crowd.
He arrived back at his waiting room, collapsed down on the chair, and looked at the television screen that showed the current rankings.
"Not bad…"

'The gap to the top two sure is large. They did hog the ball most during the event, so no surprise there.'
Kiernan thought to himself and then heard a phone buzz—it came from his locker, where he left his phone for the duration of the event.
He took the phone from there, saw the number, and answered it.
"Hey, Aoi."
Kiernan said and leaned against the locker.
"You were amazing! So, so amazing! We watched the first event, everyone together, and when you got the ball at the last minute, we all screamed!
"You were so good!"
Aoi's excited voice brightened his mood.
"Thanks. How's your grandfather?"
Kiernan asked and kept looking at the ranking board.
"He is doing great, but I think he is feeling slightly sour that you couldn't represent Grendoria. Our country's representative already lost at the Zero Event, so he didn't even reach God Island."
Aoi said with a giggle.
"I expected Maximilian to represent Grendoria. He lost at the Zero Event?"
"No… Maximilian quit martial arts. It looks like the Overtraining had done its damage to his martial soul, and after checking out with doctors, he decided to quit.
"If he participated in something as competitive as the Junior Martial Arts Championship, his soul was bound to be destroyed.
"No one else from Dusk Town was considered, sadly… Since I would've liked to participate, the government chose Grendoria's national champion instead."
Aoi said.
"Oh… I see."
Kiernan nodded.
Knock! Knock!
At that moment, someone knocked on the door.
"I must go. I'll talk to you later.
"Alright. I love you, smooch!"
Aoi kissed at her phone, and then the phone call disconnected.
Kiernan stuffed the phone into his pocket, grabbed his backpack from his locker, and then saw the door open.
The white-suited man appeared in the doorway.
"With the first event concluded, you may return back to your residence. I suggest leaving before the audience does, or there will be traffic that lengthens your journey by several hours."
The man said.
Kiernan nodded, and with his backpack slung over his shoulder, he left the room and headed to the front, where his carriage was waiting for him.
However, when he walked past a corner, someone emerged from behind the corner and started walking alongside him.
"Well done in the first event~ Clap, clap, clap."
Imperius clapped his hands with a laugh.
Kiernan's eyes widened in surprise, and with a low whisper, he asked.
"What the hell are you doing here? What if you get discovered?"
"Hahahaha!"
Imperius laughed loudly—he didn't bother to stay quiet or low-key—and patted Kiernan on the shoulder firmly.
"I am just sightseeing, that's all~ And trust me, I would've already been discovered if they had the capabilities to do so.
"I watched the first event from the audience, after all, and no one seemed to notice me. God Island's guards are mostly Martial Emperors, and while there are some Immortals hidden here… as long as I stay away from them, I should be fine."
Imperius said with a grin.
Kiernan pinched the spot between his brows—feeling a headache coming on as he listened to Imperius's careless words.
"Hey!"
At that moment, a shout came from behind them, and they turned around—a white, blue-haired young man was coming to them.
"And what do you want now?"
Kiernan looked at Zeus' red eyes without flinching, and he stopped right in front of him.
"Hahaha…"
Zeus gave him a sinister smile, revealing sharp canines, and noticed that Kiernan's legs were shaking furiously.
"I should've expected it. You can barely stand. See you tomorrow in the second event. I'll destroy you there."
Zeus bumped shoulders with Kiernan and left the stadium like a storm.
"…"
Kiernan stayed quiet and then turned to Imperius, who was standing next to him innocently.
"He didn't notice you."
"I kept my presence at the minimum. Unless he had properly concentrated on me, he couldn't have seen me. You were with me, and he was fully concentrated on you."
"I see…"
Kiernan nodded.
