Marry The Devil
Chapter 40

Chapter 40: Chapter 40

~Francis’ POV

"Your highness!" Sir. Oliver fearfully behind me. I turned, breathing heavily as I let stupid Francis down.

Francis looked directly into my eyes and smirked before crawling out of the room.

I tightened my fists.

"You should have let me kill him," I mouthed.

Remembering what he said about Mala being with him the previous night, I couldn’t help how jealous I felt.

I let her go and asked her to choose a life for herself. I told her to go and be with any man she wanted, but did it have to be Francis of all people?

"Your highness, you do not look too well. Should I call on Arabella?" Sir. Oliver asked with a bow.

"I want Mal...." I immediately paused, trying to catch my breath.

"Your highness, I thought you said you have already forgotten about Mala?"

"It was a mistake," I denied. "Why are you here?" I asked.

"Well....hum...you have a meeting with the elders now. They have all been waiting, wondering why you haven’t arrived yet. Is everything okay? You never forget about a meeting," Sir. Oliver said.

And how would I be okay when I can’t get over the stupid feelings I had for Mala?

"Wait for me in the meeting room." I said.

"Your highness, remember that tonight is the night where everything ends. We’ll kill Mala and you’ll have nothing to worry about. Congratulations, your highness," Sir. Oliver said.

"Hmm," was all that Francis answered with.

I walked into the meeting room with Sir. Oliver behind me. I hated everything. I just wanted it all to end. But even after the ritual...my mind was already made up. I wouldn’t marry Arabella. I would only use her to get better.

I walked in, only to find Arabella’s father kneeling in the middle of the throne room. He lowered his head and sobbed. "And what’s the meaning of all of this?" I growled and all the elders bowed.

"Your highness.... please. I know I am not supposed to be here, but I have come to beg for your mercy," Arabella’s father cried.

"No one from your family is locked up in the dungeon. So tell me what all of this is about," I said before going to sit on my throne.

"It’s about Arabella," he said.

"And what’s it about her?" I asked with one brow raised.

One of the elders raised his head. "Your highness...we all know what’s happening. You know what’s wrong with her .. only if you choose to deny it," he said.

"If she is pregnant, it isn’t mine. Your daughter is too weak to have sex with me," I shamelessly uttered.

Sir. Oliver flinched.

"What?" I asked.

"Your highness hasn’t slept with her and she has so many bruises all over like that?" One of the elders exclaimed.

"Do any of you have a problem with that?" I asked.

"Your highness...it’s just that you haven’t slept with her and..."

"If you want her to have sex so badly then why don’t you go in on her? You all seem to be obsessed with her anyways? Just keep her alive and make sure she’s useful for me," I added.

Sir. Oliver bowed. "Your highness, you do not seem to understand what we are talking about here."

"And what are you talking about?" I asked, looking at the window.

I wasn’t bothered and I never would be. The last thing I wanted was to go wild. And since Mala was gone, Arabella would definitely be her replacement.

"I want to take my daughter home with me," Arabella’s father said.

"She goes nowhere," I answered.

"Your highness! My daughter cannot keep living like this! If she continues this way.... she’s definitely going to....to....to die," he sobbed.

"Then it’s better that you find me another replacement before she dies," I said, looking into sir. Oliver’s eyes. He understood what I meant.

"Does my daughter’s life even matter to you, your highness?" Arabella’s father asked, tears streamed down his face.

"It doesn’t," I answered.

I knew I was a king. I didn’t have to lie...no one would punish me for saying the truth.

"Your highness," Arabella’s father called.

"What?" I asked. "it’s better you leave as soon as you can. And don’t even think of taking Arabella with you," I sneered.

"I don’t want my daughter dead, your highness! This isn’t what I was promised. I was told that if she lives in your palace, she would be properly taken care of. I was told that we would be treated with regard and respect...I didn’t know that my daughter was going to be..." before he could finish, I cut in.

"Tortured? By a monster like me?" I asked and I laughed.

I couldn’t believe they complained over a few bruises on Arabella’s body. They were there, crying and complaining like fools. They haven’t even been through half of what I went through.

The fear of having to kill Mala and first and now the pain of losing her.

"I never wanted your daughter. I never begged for her. I was on my own when they brought her to me! You all know that I was satisfied with Mala until everything got ruined! If Arabella dies, I do not care. And I won’t mind replacing her with each of your daughters for as long as I live," I threatened and all of them stood, startled.

"The crescent night is tonight. If you love yourself, hide yourselves and your family. I wouldn’t want my replacements dying before they are needed. And to those of you with beautiful wives....you might as well bring them to me," I said before storming out of the meeting hall.

****

I went into my room and locked the door behind me. It felt like my heart was being stabbed with a thousand knives. Knowing that Mala was completely gone made me feel so miserable. A part of me blamed me and the other justified that it wasn’t my fault.

Those stupid elders had a hand in every pain that I felt and I was ready to make them go through twice as worse.

I was ready to be the devil they wanted me to be. The beast they thought I was....and the king they had always longed for. Cruel and merciless.

******

The red moon was sitting dangerously in the sky. I had turned into a full beast. My eyes were red, my skin had scales, my horns were long ....my claws were sharpened. I was something to be afraid of.

I stormed out of the room and as I walked, every grass on my way dried off instantly. I was headed towards the place where Sir. Oliver wanted to perform his useless ritual with the fake Mala.

I saw Sir. Oliver in front of me and just as I was about to walk towards him... "Francis!" A feminine voice called.

I felt my whole being twice awakened at the sound of that voice. It was a voice I would recognize in my sleep.

Mala....I mouthed.

"Francis!" She called again...but this time it was louder. I couldn’t tell where the voice was coming from. I didn’t know if it was in my head or she was truly calling my name.

"Francis!"

"Francis!"

My whole body shivered and I couldn’t help the tears that rolled down my face. I rushed into the woods, "Mala!" I called out her name.

And when I called...I wasn’t hearing her anymore. She was...gone.

"Mala!" I cried out.... looking into every corner but she wasn’t there.

"Mala!"

I stood on the spot and cried.

"I never knew it would hurt this much, Mala...if I knew I wouldn’t have let you go. I thought that I could live without you, Mala but it turns out that I can’t! I don’t know what I am anymore...I don’t know what will become of me if you leave me, Mala...please!" I cried.

"If you can hear me, Mala I beg you...I am willing to risk everything. I will give my life just to be with you. To hell with the prophecy! To hell with fate! You were right...we can make it work! I don’t want to be a beast anymore, Mala ... .I want to be human for you. I want to be the man you have always wanted. I want to raise tiny humans with you!"

"Just give me one more chance Mala. I was stupid letting you go in the first place. I can’t stand it ..I can’t stand you being with someone else. If you leave, Mala I’m definitely going to .....die...if anything happens to you...I doubt that I’ll ever forgive myself."

I looked around, and I still couldn’t find anything that looked like her. I felt my whole world crashing down.

And just when I thought everything had ended, I realized it was just the beginning when I felt hands wrapped around me.

Mala’s touch couldn’t be compared to another. It felt a medicine....I couldn’t explain how but the moment she touched me...I felt the beast I had become fade away.

I turned and immediately closed my eyes.....I held her up and kissed her.

’Now that you’re mine, I’m never letting go.’
