Married To The Mad Vampire Lord
Chapter 186: Come back to me...

Chapter 186: Come back to me...

Not long after Belle finished preparing her husband for the winter, Rav came in after she helped Rohan into a warmer coat.

"We have arrived. I sent for a carriage a week ago, and it’s waiting. Let me do that," Rav stepped in and helped her raise Rohan’s head from the bed as she was struggling to do it. Rav quickly assisted her as he feared her slender arms might snap from the pressure.

The lady barely ate, and when she did, she ate a little, wiped her mouth, and said she was fine. Her eyes were getting more hollow with each passing day, and she was losing weight—it worried him so much. But knowing she wouldn’t hear anything from any of them, they had stopped trying to get her to eat.

Rav helped carry Rohan out of the ship and into the carriage that was parked away from the dock, with the coachman standing outside it, rubbing his freezing hands together to generate some heat.

When Rohan bought the house here, he had hired a full staff to work in it, including a coachman. A week ago, when Rav thought he would be bringing the lady to this land, he had written a letter to the staff and coachman, informing him that the mistress of the house would be coming and he should come and pick them up here.

Seeing Rav carrying Rohan on his shoulder, the coachman, who was a young man with blue eyes, looked at him, taken aback by the weight he carried on his shoulder, and then quickly went to assist, only to see it was a person they put into the carriage.

"You did not arrive on time, sir. You were supposed to be here yesterday," said the coachman, his eyes not leaving the unmoving person they had put inside the carriage. Was it a dead body?

"I apologize for the delay. How long is the journey to the manor?" Rav questioned the young coachman, who was almost completely hidden inside his oversized coat. Every breath they took formed visible puffs in the freezing air. Every inch of the land they stood on seemed buried beneath a smooth, endless blanket of snow.

It was twilight, with only a faint hint of the setting sun glowing on the distant horizon.

"It’s a two-hour ride to the manor. It’s not that far from here, but the snow won’t make the ride easy," he told Rav, who nodded his head in understanding, his face hidden beneath his cloak’s hood to hide the fact that he was a vampire to the coachman.

"You must be the mistress?" the coachman said to Belle, who paid no attention to him and was getting into the carriage, but at his words, she stopped and turned blank eyes to him.

The coachman laughed awkwardly. "I am Ben Rufford. I will be at your service." He bowed his head to her, but by the time he lifted his head, the strange, pale-looking lady had gotten into the carriage without acknowledging his greeting and introduction, making him scratch the back of his head in awkward embarrassment.

"What’s wrong with that man?" the coachman asked in a lowered voice to Rav as he closed the door after Belle and Gwen got in. He had been hired many weeks ago for the new manor, which he knew had been bought for a woman.

However, he couldn’t help but grow curious about the fact that this people seemed strange in one way or another. He would have thought they were vampires, but that was impossible, the lady who had ignored him had hazel eyes, and the other two didn’t quite look like night creatures despite the hooded cloaks they wore. Not to mention, the man who was said to have bought the manor had dark eyes.

Vampires were not allowed into Bimmerville. The land belonged to humans, and for many years, the king had refused to involve himself in the war that raged between other human and vampire kingdoms. Their king remained neutral, keeping his people out of conflict by refusing to welcome vampires or have anything to do with them.

Though a few vampires did enter Bimmerville from time to time, they made sure to offer peace to the king and promised not to cause trouble. They never stayed in the land but only looked around for the wealth it was known for. Any vampire who trespassed without permission would face dire consequences.

The people of Bimmerville had advanced to the point where they possessed the right weapons and tools to kill or torture a night creature. And so, Ben was beginning to grow suspicious of his employers.

"Mind your business. Let’s go," Rav warned and got into the coach front beside the nosy human.

Belle let Rohan’s head rest against her chest as she supported his body with her arms. His weight was somewhat crushing her, but she gave no signs of discomfort where she sat next to the window, her fingers absentmindedly running into his scented hair.

She had never been in a land where it snowed, and she couldn’t help but look out the window where the view was limited due to the falling snow and the fact that it was getting dark. When the carriage rode into the town, Belle noticed how the houses at the sides of the roads were built in a way that made them look advanced compared to the houses she was used to seeing.

Every house had lights surrounding them with lamp poles and beautiful porches. Bimmerville was indeed advanced. It was no surprise because they focused on building their kingdom rather than creating war with the night creatures.

They arrived at the manor after more than two hours because of the snow that had blocked the paths of the carriage and made their journey difficult. The constant jolting made her fear that the tiny tendril attached to Rohan’s chest might be disturbed and interrupt his healing process, but thankfully they arrived without her noticing any bad changes in him.

The manor was moderate and wasn’t as big as their castle, but knowing how things were said to be expensive here, it was big on its own. When she stepped out of the carriage, she briefly noticed how everything screamed luxury, even from the outside, where lamps were hanging at the gate’s side and the manor walls.

It was a two-story building with long French windows, the glass sparkling, and a large mahogany front door. Decorative flowers hung from the walls of the front porch, adding a touch of charm.

"Wow, it’s beautiful," came Gwen’s remark as she came down from the carriage to look at the luxurious manor before them. It did not have large grounds, as even the fence was low. Only black short iron bars were used to fence the manor, and everyone passing on the street could see the yard and the exterior of the house itself.

Many houses here were made like that.

Belle followed behind Rav, who carried Rohan again. The moment they stepped into the manor, they were welcomed by a warm, cozy foyer, where the stairs that led up were covered with red carpets.

"Welcome," greeted two female servants in uniform at the side with a bow.

The house was grand, but unfortunately, Belle could not enjoy its grandeur, even after spending another two weeks in it.

How could she, when after everything, there was still no improvement in her husband, who was starting to look more dead than alive with each passing day? He was turning more pale, and his lips were taking on a dark color that scared the soul out of her the first time she saw it.

Kuhn, the only creature who could explain to her what was going on, had not shown himself to her again after that day in the forest. It was like he had left them.

She took care of Rohan despite the fact that he looked like that. She washed and cleaned his body and changed his clothes and kept him warm, and just like she had been doing every day, she was doing it again this night before she would go to sleep.

"I have always wanted to see what Bimmerville looks like when I hear people talk about the land at balls, and I can’t wait to see it. Only, I wish you would open your eyes and walk the lands with me. I want to tour the land with you. I want to touch the snow for the very first time," she remarked with a smile as she began to pull his limp arm into a sleeve of a coat.

She had not stepped out of the manor even once after that day they had arrived. She had stayed indoors.

"You haven’t teased me in months now. You haven’t called me your love and heart... it’s starting to get really lonely, you know. I haven’t eaten a proper meal because I am waiting to have one with you..." She took a deep breath to control her shaky voice as the first threat of tears clutched her throat. She breathed in and out and then smiled. "But no worries... I’ll wait. I had a dream last night that you woke up. It’s almost my birthday... you have to wake up before then. They say couples last longer when they’re the first to wish each other happy birthday..."

A tear rolled down her cheek and fell on his as she was hovering over him.

"It’s going to be my first birthday married. I will be really sad if my husband isn’t there to wish me first. I miss you. God, I miss you so much it hurts to breathe sometimes," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion and tears.

"Come back to me. I need you. Please..." She leaned down and pressed her lips against his cold cheek, and then slowly she pulled away, stared down at his face for a moment before she settled herself beside him on the large bed and pulled the blanket over them both and laid her head on his right chest side.

With a heavy heart and burning throat, Belle closed her eyes. But despite that, uncontrollable tears rolled down her lashes, and when the tears soaked into his attire and touched his skin, the red light within his heart glowed for a second, and then it dimmed and disappeared completely.
