Married To The Mad Vampire Lord
Chapter 185: The arrival

Chapter 185: The arrival

She balanced herself by sitting quickly on the side of the small bed, and with a careful movement, she began to soak a clean rag into the bowl of water, squeezed it, and brought it to his pale face to begin wiping off the remnant of the blood the rain did not wash away.

She slowly let her hand glide over every perfect angle of his serene-looking face, as if she were trying to memorize each contour. He looked so fragile lying on the bed, with only the blanket covering his body, as she had removed all of his clothes. He was completely naked beneath the blanket.

Despite the circumstances, Belle felt heat rush to her cheeks for the first time in days, a familiar sensation she hadn’t realized she missed until the surge of warmth overwhelmed her body. She no longer cared about modesty as she did in the past, he was her husband, and she had every right. She had stripped him bare and tenderly wiped his body, shamelessly admiring the form she had never truly had the chance to study before.

He was beautiful. From head to toe, and he was healing slowly from many of the bruises he had obtained in the forest while being rogue.

He had been through a lot, and she couldn’t help the feeling of wanting to protect him like he had for her. She wanted to give him all the love his parents had deprived him of, to hold him every night and tell him how much he meant to her. She wanted to love him with everything in her and heal him of all the pain and suffering...

The ship swayed again, and she slightly leaned towards his face. Not bothering to pull back, she used her finger to touch his lips that had turned pale pink. Then gently, she leaned down and pressed her lips against his.

"Wake up soon, Rohan. Don’t make me wait too long for your recovery..." she whispered against his lips, and then she turned her gaze to his chest, where the red glow that shone from within seemed to glow brighter.

She smiled. "I’ll take that as a sign that you can hear me. I will make sure to bring you to safety. No one will harm you again. I promise. No one."

She kissed the side of his lips and then moved back and pulled the blanket to cover his body properly after wiping his chest.

She stood up, but a bolt of dizziness made her sit back again for a moment before standing again.

"My lady, you should rest as well. I found pots and pans and foodstuffs in the gallery. I will put water for you to bathe and make you something to eat," Gwen said to Belle when she stepped up to the freezing deck, where the wind was harsh and she looked around at the vast ocean surrounding them and the fogs hovering low.

She could barely stand still on her feet as the ship kept swaying.

She felt nauseous at the sight of the ocean and the movement, and she clutched to a pole at the deck.

"Are there any clothes he can wear? It’s cold out here, and I don’t want him catching a cold in that state," Belle asked as she turned her eyes to the vampiress, who had changed her own clothes into a simple brown gown.

"Yes, there’s a sack of clothes in one of the rooms below the deck. I found the servants’ attires there and took one. Should I cook the meal?"

"Hmm," was all Belle said as she began to make her way back below, but Gwen stopped her again.

"You haven’t properly attended to your finger, my lady. It could get worse. That piece of clothing can’t help it, I can fix it for you properly."

Belle looked down at her broken finger, where she had wrapped a cloth around it, as she couldn’t help but dread pulling it back to the right position. She had completely even forgotten about it until now that Gwen mentioned it.

"Later. Let me go and see the clothes and get him warm." She walked away. She had noticed his temperature had dropped when she was wiping off his body. He was as cold as ice, and she wasn’t certain if that was a good thing, as Rohan had always been warm-blooded.

"She’s working herself out," Gwen muttered to herself as she watched the lady disappear below the dim deck. She couldn’t help but worry, not only for the lady but for herself and Rav. If his lordship recovered and then he found his wife falling in a bad condition because she wasn’t listening to anyone and not taking care of herself, he would blame them.

But then... would his lordship ever recover?

They spent almost more than a week on the ocean, traveling to Bimmerville, a human kingdom that was the smallest among many of the kingdoms in the lands. It was a land that had escaped the climactic weather of year-round rain. Instead of rain, it often had winter and only a few months of summer throughout the years.

Belle had heard a lot of things about Bimmerville, as it was one of the richest and smallest. Only the elites in Aragonia went there for vacation, and living in the land cost more than some wealthy families could afford. It was a surprise Rohan had gotten a house there for her to live in, with such a high cost of living that not even her own family could afford it.

The moment they entered the territory of the land through the ocean, the climate had changed, and their ship had to sail through light frozen water, where the wood of the ship groaned in protest as it pushed through the icy sea.

Belle watched from the tiny window of the cabin she had lived in with her husband throughout the week of their journey. The window was her favorite spot, but due to the intense cold fog now, it was impossible to see through anything that went beyond the cracking of ice at the window side, as even the glass was fogged and blurry.

"We are almost there, Rohan. This treacherous journey will soon be over, and you can get a better resting place that is warm and cozy," she announced with a forced excited voice as she turned her head to look at her unmoving husband on the bed, who looked the same as he was a week ago. There was no visible improvement that indicated he was coming awake.

If it wasn’t for the fact that he wasn’t decaying, one would believe he was dead, and it hurt to wake up each morning beside him expecting to see an improvement, only to be greeted with that ghostly white face and body beside her.

There were nights she couldn’t help but cry at his side and pray to whatever god was listening to make him wake up. She was willing to trade anything to bring him back to himself. She would give up her right arm for him.

However, she had told herself that she would no longer be dampened by the fact that he was still not awake. She had made the habit to talk to him like he was normal and awake.

She made sure to fill him in on every little view of what she saw through the window every day, and her walk on the deck in the afternoons to stretch her legs and look at the ocean surrounding them. It would have been a lovely view if he was beside her.

She had become so used to the constant swaying and up-and-down movements of the ship that she got up swiftly from the window side to go and get him ready when the ship began to inch closer to a dock where they would stop at.
