Mother Pan immediately understood how serious her second sister-in-law's situation could be. She turned to her daughter-in-law, took her hand, and asked gently, "Xue'er, could you ask your friend? Maybe they still have some stock left."

Bai Xue'er had long disliked her second aunt's daughter.
