Even if she said so, they didn't dare to move their chopsticks after seeing the food on the table. Besides the thin millet porridge, there were only several whole wheat steamed buns and a small plate of pickled vegetables.

Since there were guests at home, Dong Li took his sister out to play after cleaning up the table and washing the dishes.

While his wife was relaxing inside the space, Li Chenmo showed the greenhouses to Jiang Zemin and the government staff.

They examined the bamboo buildings and pipes. Noticing the bamboo poles placed above the soil, Jiang Zemin asked, "Brother Li, what are these bamboo poles used for?"

"These are used for irrigation. We are using a drip irrigation system to save water and labor," Li Chenmo replied.

Taking a closer look and noticing the small holes along the bamboo waterways, one staff member asked, "Comrade Li, where is the water source?"

"These bamboo pipes are connected to the pipe leading from the water vat near the river. I fill the vat once every three days. Since the water goes directly into the soil, it increases absorption and conserves water," Li Chenmo explained.

Hearing this, another staff member asked, "Comrade Li, why didn't you include this irrigation system in your report?"

Li Chenmo smiled and replied, "It's not that I didn't want to include it, but it's still in the testing phase. I don't yet know its full effectiveness or any drawbacks. Before I collect more data, I wouldn't dare report it to the brigade."

Jiang Zemin nodded at his words and said, "Brother Li, I really admire you. You always consider the country and its people. I will report this to the brigade secretary later."

"Brother Jiang, I'm not doing this for rewards or recognition. As long as our people can fill their bellies, that's the best reward for me and my family," Li Chenmo said modestly.

"Thank you, Comrade Li," the staff replied with relief.

After showing them the greenhouses, he handed them an envelope filled with information about the irrigation system.

Before they left, he picked some vegetables and strawberries for them, and said, "Comrade, these are just a small gesture from me. Please accept them."

While the government staff were embarrassed to accept, Jiang Zemin received the gift and said, "Brother Li, we won't disturb you any longer. I will come visit again another time."

After sending them off, Li Chenmo returned to the bedroom and found his wife reading a book. With nothing else to do, the two spent their time reading together.

Meanwhile, in the capital, Bai Xue'er was chatting with Mother Pan when they heard a knock.

Setting her teacup down, Bai Xue'er said, "Mother, I will go see who it is."

Mother Pan nodded and replied, "Alright."

When Bai Xue'er opened the door, she was surprised to see her husband's second aunt. She stepped aside and gestured for her to come in while asking, "Second Aunt? Aren't you going to Yunnan City with the Second Uncle? What brings you here today?"

Second Aunt walked in holding several bags. Seeing this, Bai Xue'er helped her carry them into the living room.

Seeing her arrival, Mother Pan stood up and asked with surprise, "Second sister-in-law, what brings you here?"

Second Aunt placed the bags on the floor and said, "Sister-in-law, I'm sorry to come without informing you, but I have an urgent matter to discuss with Xue'er."

Hearing this, Mother Pan gestures for her to sit before she asks, "Second sister-in-law, did something happen at home?"

After hesitating for a moment, Second Aunt finally said, "Sister-in-law, I will be honest with you. Today, I came to ask if Xue'er could help me buy more grain."

Bai Xue'er was taken aback when she heard her words. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Second Aunt, didn't you just buy 800 kilograms of grain? Isn't that enough?"

Second Aunt let out a long sigh and replied, "It's my daughter's fault. I told my husband and children to keep this matter a secret, but she told her cousin. Now my husband's family is demanding me to help them buy grain too."

"Second Aunt, it's not that I don't want to help, but you know the grain is limited. My friend might not have any stock left," Bai Xue'er said with a frown.
