Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife -
Chapter 1473 - 1473: Lucrative Business
The man scoffed and replied, "Yesterday, my cousin went to their house to help transport the seeds. He said that besides paddy, they also provided corn, barley, wheat, and sorghum. The total amount was enough for next year's entire planting season."
Everyone knew how vast the production team's farmland was. To cover it all would require at least 8,000 kilograms of seed. Just how much food did the Li family have?
Despite their curiosity, no one dared to ask the Li family directly, so the topic remained a small piece of gossip.
After visiting the mountain foothills, Lu Jueyu was exhausted and went to take a nap after a quick shower. As for Li Chenmo, he brought his children to the greenhouses to harvest fruits and vegetables.
As they worked, the sky gradually darkened, and the sun set in the western horizon. The villagers returned to their homes and went to sleep after dinner.
While the village was deep in slumber, several groups of people made their way to the mountain foothills behind Xie village.
Holding the map in his hand, Houzi said, "Follow closely and watch your step. The location is well hidden, and there might be some wild beasts. Stay alert and be careful."
Walking beside him, He Xieyu nodded and relayed the reminder to his men. They walked for nearly two hours before finally reaching the hidden field marked on the map given by Li Chenmo.
When they saw the dense thickets and trees, Bajie leaned closer to Houzi and asked, "Boss, this place is full of bushes and trees. Is there really a place to put the grains?"
Houzi kept walking and replied, "After doing so much business with Brother Li, you still don't trust his capability?"
Hearing this, Bajie recalled Li Chenmo and his wife's resourcefulness and said, "Of course, I trust him."
"Then there is no need to doubt anything," Houzi said casually.
After walking for another ten minutes, they finally walked out of the bushes area and saw the open field. The moment they spotted the sacks piled high in the field, everyone was stunned.
From afar, the sacks formed a mound like a small hill. Judging by the number of them, it matched the amount of grain they had agreed upon.
Seeing this, Houzi asked, "Comrade He, do you want to weigh the grains?"
"No need. We don't have much time, and I trust you," He Xieyu replied without hesitation.
Under the dim moonlight, the group began transporting the grains.
Because of the large quantity, they couldn't move everything in a single night. So, they split the operation over several nights, prioritizing the rice and sending it quickly to nearby cities and towns.
In the midst of a food shortage, a week passed in the blink of an eye.
Early one morning, before dawn, Houzi slung his cloth bag over his shoulder and rode his bicycle to visit Li Chenmo. Not wanting to alert the neighbors, he didn't ring the bell. Instead, he knocked on the backyard gate.
Fortunately, Li Chenmo and his family were early risers. When he heard the knock, he was in the backyard washing his face. Opening the gate, he saw Houzi and asked, "Brother Houzi, what brought you here so early?"
Houzi took several envelopes out of his bag and handed them over while saying, "Brother Chenmo, I came to deliver the money and to let you know the grains in the mountain foothills have been fully transported. Also, He Xieyu wanted to know when he could order the next batch."
Accepting the envelopes, Li Chenmo chuckled and said, "Sounds like he gained a lot from this deal."
"I don't know all the details, but I heard he managed to stabilize his father's position in the military and even secured a promotion for his cousin in the coastal city," Houzi replied.
"No wonder," Li Chenmo nodded.
After a pause, he added, "I'm not sure when we will be able to get more grain. I have to check with my friends first. It's already autumn, and most of the mountain harvest is over. Finding more grain will be difficult."
Houzi nodded in understanding and said, "I see."
"Brother Chenmo, are you still selling grains in your store?" he asked.
"I'm not sure how long the store will stay open. Once the grains are sold out, we will close it until we can get a new batch or until the next harvest," Li Chenmo replied vaguely.
Hearing this, Houzi frowned and sighed, "With so many areas failing their summer harvest, it's going to be tough finding a new supply."
Knowing how hard the situation was, he didn't press further and said, "Brother Chenmo, if you get a new batch, please let me know."
"Okay," Li Chenmo agreed readily.
After their brief conversation, he closed the gate and returned to the bedroom. He placed the envelopes beside his wife and headed to the kitchen.
As usual, Dong Li woke up not long after his father. Since his cooking skills were better, he prepared breakfast while his father fetched water to fill the vat in the kitchen. The two worked in silence, and when the first light broke on the eastern horizon, they went to the pig pen.
Not long after, Lu Jueyu finally woke up due to hunger. Rubbing her eyes, she sat up and looked around. Feeling the cold spot beside her, she knew her husband must have been up for a while.
When she lifted the thin blanket, she saw several envelopes on the bed. Curious, she opened one and found money inside. Recalling their recent business, she stored the envelopes into her space and went to tidy up.
As she walked to the backyard, she saw her daughter drinking soy milk while gazing at the dimmed sky.
Hearing footsteps, Dong Huang turned and saw her mother. She placed her cup on the small table and walked over. Hugging her mother's thigh, she said, "Good morning, Mother."
Lu Jueyu squatted down, kissed her daughter, and replied, "Good morning, Xiao Huang."
"What are you doing here alone?" she asked.
