Chapter 65: Blasphemy.

Chapter 65: Blasphemy.

Bracing himself, Mark walked over to the door, grabbed the handle, and gave it a twist. Pausing for a moment, he then pulled the door open.

Only a small counter separated the living room from the kitchen so one could still see the rest of the apartment from the entrance to the bedroom.

The dining table was a mess. On one side was a tall man with long hair struggling to release himself from the hold of a blonde guy. On the other side of the table was a short girl standing on a chair and waving a yellow disc of some sort over the table.

Even though he had no idea of what was happening, the sadistic smile worn by the girl made Mark shiver even as he looked on from afar.

His attention was on the trio so he didn’t notice the wall blocking the way toward the stove. Only when it moved did Mark realize it was in fact a massive balloon of a man standing there with his back to the others.

From the looks of it he was working something on the stove while ignoring the racket behind him. Ramsay didn’t seem to care as well seeing how he was chilling on the couch with his feet on the coffee table and a cigarette in his hand.

Mark didn’t really care about the Sergeant or the big guy in the kitchen. His sight was on the three standing around the dinner table.

At first, Mark didn’t understand what was happening, but then he saw the pie on the table. He saw the white dough, the red sauce, and the shredded cheese. That was all he needed to recognize the dish.

The short girl seemed to be threatening to put something on that dish. The rage in the eyes of the long-haired man showed he wasn’t willing to let her do it, but with the blonde guy restraining him he could only watch and curse.

Mark suddenly recognized what the yellow disk the short girl held was, and when he did, the entire apartment was suddenly engulfed by the weight of his Soul, causing everyone else to freeze in their place.

Most of the pressure fell on the short girl, and for a good reason.

"You dare commit such blasphemy in my house?" Mark asked, his voice rougher than usual.

Everyone stared at him with wide eyes, including Ramsay and the big guy. There was a long moment of silence as Mark continued to glare. A couple of seconds later, the apartment was filled with the sound of laughter out of nowhere.

It was long before silence returned to Mark’s single-bedroom apartment, but it wasn’t the kind of silence he had long since grown used to.

Including him, there were seven people in there now. All of them were focused on their food and only the occasional clang of plats or cutlery could be heard.

Mark looked around the room then at the plates before him. One had a salad with lettuce, tomato, and some olives. The other had a massive pizza slice with so much cheese one could get a heart attack just from looking at it.

Pizza was a dish he only ate on special occasions due to his mother’s continuous warnings. It was one of his favorites, but having it right after waking up was simply too much.

Not that he was in the mood for anything else. Seeing so many strangers in his home, food was the last thing on his mind.

"Why aren’t you eating?" One of those strangers, a petite girl with short ginger hair, stared at him with half-lidded eyes as she bit into what was left of her slice. "Don’t tell me you’re still not over it."

"C’mon, newbie!" A hand smacked his back, causing it to straighten by reflex. "It was just a joke. A joke!"

Mark glanced at the blonde guy sitting on his right. The way he acted made it clear personal space wasn’t something he perceived well.

"Hah! Can you blame him?" A tall man with long black hair scoffed. "You were about to commit that vile act in his house. Of course, he wouldn’t trust the food we offer."

"We already laughed at that joke so get a new one." Said the ginger girl. "And we apologized as well."

"Like hell a half-hearted sorry would fix it." The long-haired man replied. "Get on your knees and beg for forgiveness. Or maybe don’t. You’re already short enough as is."

"What did you say, old man?" The girl jumped to her feet.

"Oh no! The hobbit is angry at me!" The man raised his arms and pretended to be frightened.

"You ba-"

"Alright, enough of that!" A loud clap echoed through the living room. "You’re guests here so behave yourselves!"

The girl and the long-haired man growled at each other before going back to their food. Mark shifted his gaze to the one who silenced them, a man large enough to use the entire couch as a chair.

"Sorry about that, lad" He smiled apologetically. "They like to get rowdy from time to time."

Mark didn’t know how to reply.

"You not in the mood for pizza, eh?" The large man asked. "I can fix you something else, if that’s what you want."

Mark quickly shook his head.

"No, it’s just..." He wanted to say he wasn’t comfortable having so many strangers at his place, but imagining how much of a pain the following conversation would be he simply gave up and shut his mouth.

"Oh, right!" Ramsay suddenly spoke, paused to swallow what was in his mouth then looked at Mark with a devilish grin. "This is the first time you’re having people over, right?"

Mark opened his mouth to retort but the Sergeant beat him to it.

"Your parents don’t count."

"No one?" The girl’s eyes shot open. "Seriously? Sheesh, that’s-"

A hand covered her mouth before she could say any more. The blonde guy had appeared behind her at some point and restrained her so she wouldn’t be able to say or do anything.

That didn’t really matter since Mark knew exactly what she was about to say. Ignoring the two, he glanced at his maid who was silently working through her pizza slice one small bite at a time.

Seeing her lack of concern toward the current situation made him feel like a fool for overthinking the whole thing.
