Maids VS Apocalypse
Chapter 63: White Crescent (Part Two)

Chapter 63: White Crescent (Part Two)

The white crescents stopped at nothing. Buildings were cut to ribbons, each one collapsing into neatly sliced pieces before crumbling into piles of dust and rubble.

Seeing no end to it in sight, the woman in red decided to take the risk and go on the offense once more. She focused her mind and accelerated the formation of her crystals then dashed forth with her Force Field cranked up to the maximum.

Successfully parrying and evading the sharp crescents one by one, she closed the distance between her and the maid in a matter of seconds. Despite using the full output of her Force Field she was still injured, and though the cuts were too shallow, they were enough to lead her to a terrifying conclusion.

’It can nullify Force Fields!!!!’

The realization validated her decision to get close.

Abilities capable of overcoming the nigh impenetrable Force Field were the subject of myths. Extending the battle against someone capable of using such Abilities was tantamount to courting death.

The best course of action would be to give the user no opening to use said Abilities and end the battle as fast as possible, and with her having already crossed the danger zone and arrived too close to the maid, that spear could no longer threaten her.

She expected her opponent to be stunned or terrified, but what met her was the calm expression of someone who had nothing to worry about. The maid had halted her movements.

The glowing blade of her spear was pointing up in preparation for a downward swing, but it hadn’t moved an inch.

The woman in red sensed a trap and decided to make an abrupt retreat. Her fate had already been sealed, however, and she only understood that once the wounds scattered all over her body started to burn with searing pain.

A faint pulse spread through every blood vessel in her body, and in the next instant, crimson showers erupted from every cut she had suffered in her final charge.

The thin droplets sprayed by the wounds seemed to coalesce and concentrate, joining together to form long crimson strings that twisted around her entire body, wrapping it like the silky threads of a thousand arachnids.

Even as time slowed down for her, the hooded woman knew she wouldn’t get the chance to understand what was happening.

The maid stepped back and readjusted her spear, the white energy coating its head having turned it into a long blade. Her ruby eyes remained cold and emotionless.

It was as if she didn’t care much for her; as if she was assured of her victory from the very start. That was the look of someone who couldn’t even be bothered with what they were doing, treating what should have been a death battle as nothing but a simple chore.

’Ah, guess I did underestimate them...’ Knowing there was no escape, the woman in red closed her eyes and accepted her fate. ’Screw you, Clyde. You should have told me we’re dealing with a Level 5...’

"Sorry about that, Bonnie," there was the sound of clashing metal and she felt her body being forcefully yanked somewhere. "Turns out I underestimated as well."

Sensing the movements stop, she slowly opened her eyes. Someone had stepped in at the last moment, blocked the maid’s spear, and saved her from certain death.

He was wearing a hooded cloak of the same red color, though his appearance seemed a lot more rugged as if he had spent countless days in the wilderness. A strange gas mask covered the lower half of his face, but his gray hair and the wrinkles on his forehead spoke of his age.

"Bonnie, this is no time to play around." The hooded man said. "We’re out of time. Their reinforcements have already arrived.

"A-ah!!?"

The woman in red quickly pushed herself away, her face turning as red as her hair. She quickly regained her composure, however, turning to glare at the one who almost ended her life.

The maid was still there, standing a few meters away from them with her spear at the ready.

"Sorry but... we need to get going." The hooded man said. "I’m sure you also want to go save your friend, so..."

Before he could say anything else, five arrows pierced the ground surrounding him and his aid. They shone with a pale blue color, and an instant later, blue threads shot out of them and bound the two.

"Oh no..."

On the roof of a nearby building, a man wearing a motorcycle helmet held his bow at the ready, three more arrows already Knocked.

Knitting his brows, the hooded man flicked his wrists and four knives appeared in both of his hands. He was about to throw them when he noticed another presence.

At some point, a large round man appeared behind him, his right fist drown back as he charged some kind of energy through it. He turned his attention to the front and noticed that another man appeared, yellow lightning dancing on his lean figure and blond hair as he prepared to swing a two-handed long sword.

Just when the two thought they were surrounded from four directions, a shadow suddenly fell on them from above. Looking up, they saw what appeared to be a massive gray pillar. Only when they saw the handle on one of its ends did they realize it was a gigantic broad sword coming down at him like a hammer comes down on a nail.

"Bonnie..." The hooded man tossed the knives he held and extended his hand toward the woman. "Grab my hand!"

Without uttering a word, the woman in red did as he said.

The threads binding them snapped just as the large man behind them swung his first and the lean one slashed with his sword. The archer released his arrow and the maid swung her spear and launched an arc of energy.

Just before any of the attacks landed, the red cloaks suddenly vanished.

A violent tremor shook the desolate ruins of Stonegate City. Under the rubble where he was buried, Mark could only wonder what in the world was happening out there.
