Chapter 307 - 307: Flames VS Fangs!

"What? You surprised? Well, don't be. There are still many more surprises to come!" Drey roared, his voice wild and primal. With a guttural growl, he lunged forward like a cannonball, his feet exploding off the ground, closing the distance between him and a stunned Scarlet in a heartbeat.

Bang!

His clawed hand smashed into her face with devastating force, sending her flying. Scarlet's body tumbled across the battlefield, bouncing like a ragdoll.

Sparks and debris burst beneath her as she skidded along the cracked coliseum floor. She finally came to a halt, her flaming hands digging deep into the dirt to stop her momentum.

Tchk!

Scarlet spat out blood and saliva, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. But instead of anger or fear, a crazed smile tugged at her lips. Her eyes gleamed—dangerous, thrilled, unbroken.

"That was fun," she hissed. "Now it's my turn!"

With a fiery burst, she rocketed forward, her feet igniting the air beneath her. She leapt high, and then—

Boom!

An explosion of fire erupted from her legs, propelling her like a meteor toward Drey, her body blazing, her aura like a comet descending from the heavens.

'Impossible… That hit should've knocked her out cold! And her speed—!'

Before Drey's thought could finish, she appeared in front of him, her fire-wreathed fists slamming into his chest with enough force to send him crashing backward, skidding along the ground in a trail of dust.

But Scarlet wasn't done.

"Fire Magic—Inferno!!" she roared.

From her outstretched arms, a massive tornado of fire erupted, spiraling and crackling as it barreled toward Drey.

Boom!

The inferno consumed him, towering flames engulfing everything in its path. Scarlet descended smoothly, her feet landing with a soft hiss of evaporating heat, eyes fixed on the blaze.

And then—

"Kek."

The sound echoed mockingly from within the inferno.

Swoosh!

The flames were blasted apart by a surge of mana, revealing Drey standing tall and untouched.

His back, covered in a thick, stone-like shell, crumbled away as he turned with a wicked grin. His claws gleamed, his eyes locked on Scarlet with predatory intent.

"Was that supposed to hurt?" he taunted. "All you did was warm up my back."

He chuckled darkly.

"Let me give you a free lesson."

Bang!

Drey vanished in a blur of motion, appearing before Scarlet with his legs now transformed into heavy hooves. His claws slashed forward, meeting Scarlet's fire-encased fists mid-air.

Boom!

A shockwave burst from the impact. The ground cracked beneath their feet, and a cloud of dust and rock exploded around them.

"Fireballs!" Scarlet yelled, not missing a beat.

Two dozen blazing orbs materialized from the sides and launched themselves at Drey.

Drey's smirk never faded. He shoved Scarlet back with brute force and spun around. His tail swept through the air like a whip.

A wave of dense mana surged outward, smashing into the fireballs, causing them to explode in a cascade of sparks.

He grinned wider, fangs gleaming.

"If you can't satisfy me in battle…" he licked his lips, "then maybe your slender neck will."

Drey dashed forward, jaws unhinging, fangs bared like a rabid beast. In an instant, he was beside Scarlet, ready to bite—

"Eat my flames instead!"

A jet of fire erupted from the side, slamming into Drey's flank before he could bite. His eyes widened, and he spun, instinctively hardening his back again.

"ARGHHH!"

He screamed in agony as the flames seared through his side, peeling skin and burning fur. His body was flung backward, bouncing across the arena before coming to a stop, smoke curling from his charred body.

'What… What was that?! I had her—how did she…?'

He looked up and gasped.

Hovering above Scarlet was a miniature fire dragon, steam hissing from its nostrils, wings beating with intense heat.

'Creation magic?!'

"Fine!" Drey snarled. "If you're pulling out tricks, then I'll take it up a notch!"

His body began to change once more. Muscles swelled, bones cracked, fur sprouted across his limbs. His height surged to nine feet. A twisted horn tore from his skull. His fangs grew longer. His golden eyes blazed blood-red.

"ARGHHH!!" he screamed, as the transformation sent waves of pain through his body.

Scarlet's voice rang out like a war drum.

"You think I'll just stand here and let you power up?!"

She was already there, a flaming sword materializing in her grip.

She slashed at him—but Drey caught it with one massive claw. The flame blade fizzled and died instantly.

Then his fist drove into her gut with monstrous strength.

Crack!

The dragon above her vanished into sparks. Scarlet's body rocketed backward, colliding with the barrier of the coliseum. The shield flared to life, repelling her and slamming her into the ground.

Thud!

She hit the arena floor face-first, unmoving.

Drey exhaled heavily, his voice now hoarse.

"Hmph… That was quick. Maybe I didn't need the full transformation after all. Just my arms were enough. Tch. Pathetic."

"Scarlet Trevor! Are you okay?!" Captain Amir's voice echoed across the arena.

But Scarlet remained motionless.

"I'll count down from three," Amir said. "If you're still conscious and able to fight, raise your hand. Otherwise, Drey will be declared the winner."

"3…"

The crowd held its collective breath.

Grey sat up, eyes narrowed, fists clenched.

"2…"

"Come on, Scarlet. Don't go out like this…" Grey muttered.

"1…"

Vorden cursed under his breath. "Shit, don't tell me she's really out."

"0…"

Amir's voice was flat. "Drey wins. Take Scarlet away for treatment."

A mage appeared beside Scarlet, knelt down, and with a glowing hand, teleported her away.

"Wait—what?!" Max gaped. "With all that suspense, I thought she'd get up at the last second!"

Grey's jaw tightened.

"I guess life isn't like a novel," he muttered bitterly.

Amir raised his hand again. "Time for the second fixture of the day!"

A holographic display shimmered into the air once more, spinning rapidly before it stopped on two names.

"The next match is between Greg Truedream… and Lyra!"
