Chapter 91: 25 episodes Task_2

The male angel also put away his weapon, but still looked warily at Lynch standing at their feet.

"In that case, there’s no problem. Since you weren’t sent by those evil guys, we can rest assured." Lynch signaled his companions to lower their weapons. "We barely escaped with our lives from there."

"Evil things? What are you referring to?" the male angel immediately asked.

Caught the bait, Lynch thought with a smile. These angels are indeed wise and rational beings, but they have one flaw: they’re "overly" hostile towards evil. Their arduous journey from the Celestial to the Material Realm could only be for two purposes: to guide exceptionally good souls or to eliminate strong evil beings. And they much prefer the second purpose over the first. Those Snake-men are just the targets they can clear.

"We are helping the residents here investigate the continuous deaths of their miners, which has greatly impacted their lives due to this tragedy." Lynch wasn’t sure if there were any lie-detecting Divine Arts acting on him, so he decided to tell the truth—filtered truth, of course. "We came to investigate and discovered a group of Snake-men, more precisely, a mutated type of Snake-men, stronger and more vicious. We fought them and escaped."

Seeing the two angels’ interest piqued, Lynch said with a grave expression, "Oh yes, we saw them performing some kind of ritual, like a sacrifice. A priest was immersing many eggs in a strange pool. Before using the pool, they even dismembered and killed one of their kind alive in it."

"How utterly evil!" the male angel stomped his foot. "Where are they, tell me!"

"Wait..." The female angel pulled the male angel aside: "Did you forget, we..."

The rest of the conversation was inaudible. Lynch guessed they were using some telepathic supernatural abilities.

"Lynch, how are you feeling now? Are you alright?" Deluo patted Lynch on the shoulder, giving him a once-over.

"I’m fine." Lynch simply replied, still focusing on closely observing the two angels’ behavior.

The male angel clearly faced a dilemma, furrowing his brows in silence as if troubled by something; while the female angel looked at his worried face with gentle eyes.

After a while, the two angels turned back, staring directly at Lynch. Being stared at by both angels made the Mage suddenly feel a bit guilty.

"I have an important matter to entrust to you. Please, you must agree. Actually..." The male angel felt the gentle encouragement from his companion, cleared his throat, "Actually, we have no solution. We came down here to find a place to settle our daughter. Originally, we wanted to entrust her to your Great Mage Association, but were drawn here by a powerful force, delaying our journey. However, we found a better guardian, and we want to leave our daughter temporarily with you. Please take care of her."

Lynch’s mouth gaped in disbelief. A Blazing Angel entrusting their daughter to a mere mortal Mage Apprentice? Such a thing was akin to an elephant entrusting its calf to a little mouse!

Before Lynch could reject, the female angel spoke again: "I understand what you worry about, but you certainly have enough ability to protect our daughter. It was your strong energy that attracted us here. Don’t worry, our daughter is a lucky star, blessed by the Goddess of Fortune, and nothing will happen to her. We feel relieved leaving her with you."

"Why don’t you send her to the Pate Temple? The priests there would certainly be very happy and grateful. They can better care for your child." Just after saying this, Lynch thought of the nature of angels. Although they have genders, they lack reproductive ability. From this perspective, the child mentioned by the angels must have many untold stories, but these stories, once unearthed, represent endless trouble.

"We have our reasons; we never lie, but some things can’t be spoken of." The male angel lowered his head somewhat helplessly.

It was Lynch’s first time seeing an angel with such an expression. Even the Celestial’s most courageous and proud warrior could be troubled someday. He glanced at his two companions. Deluo and Nimo nodded, indicating that they believed the task could be agreed upon. Lynch felt a bit helpless, as his two companions seemed unaware of the mission’s daunting nature.

"Alright, I’ll do it. I’ll exert my utmost effort to assist you. But what’s your daughter’s name—she’s not as big as you are, is she?"

The two angels smiled, their worries completely vanished, and with a gentle flicker, they transformed into two people nearly the same size as Lynch and his companions. It was Nimo’s first time witnessing such a transformation, he observed curiously as the two people walked over slowly—now devoid of any angelic traits.

However, Lynch couldn’t shake the feeling the male angel looked familiar, as if he had met him somewhere before...

"Our daughter is just a little child, quite small, about the same height as this Dwarf fellow. Her name is Soka; take this, and she’ll recognize you and listen." The female angel took a golden Badge from her chest and handed it to Lynch. "She should be playing outside this ice tower now. You needn’t worry; she’s an absolutely lucky little one." The two angels exchanged warm smiles, sharing a sense of comfort.

"Oh yes, there might be some things useful to you in this high tower..." The male angel glanced around the surroundings, "provided there haven’t been any thieves, the items should be on the nine hundred ninety-something step. Mage, you should understand what I mean."

"In that case, we leave everything entrusted to you." The two angels exchanged glances, their figures began to fade, slowly vanishing into the air, "By the way, you needn’t worry about those evil Snake-men chasing you..."

And just like that, the two angels disappeared into thin air.

Lynch glanced at the ice tower’s steps, then at the cave entrance: "I’ll go check on the girl. You guys go get those items. Remember, after counting to nine hundred ninety-nine steps, just push the wall. The wall is the entrance."

Deluo excitedly dashed towards a side stairwell, shouting, "I’ve always wanted a good weapon! There must be one in here!"

Nimo eyed the excited warrior, then the Mage’s expression, unable to decide. Knowing that the curiosity among the Dwarf Clan was immense, Lynch patted Nimo’s head and said, "There’s another stairway on the other side, go on."

"Mm!" Nimo nodded, taking quick steps with his short legs up the stairs.

Meanwhile, Lynch slowly strolled towards the outside of the cave, with Deluo’s cries echoing behind him: "Ah! What step was I on? Over again, over again!"

What could there be outside the cave? The Mage’s mind filled with daydreams...
