Chapter 80: Episode 21 Rising

The three of them had discussed the general plan of action and dispersed. Lynch came to the side of the hall entrance and hid behind a stone sculpture.

In his hand was a "Chain Lightning" scroll he had copied long ago while at the Mage Association. Though he knew these Snake-men were immune to lightning attacks, what the mage needed was the shockwave produced by the consecutive explosions of the lightning. To simply use magic to kill all the Snake-men in front of him, perhaps only a Great Mage could achieve that.

Lynch’s target was the eight stone pillars standing around the altar. These pillars were so thick that it would take three people to encircle them, with some serpent images carved on them: a group of small snakes climbing upwards, entwined and crowding towards the top of the pillar where a glowing sun symbol shone. Lynch didn’t have time to dwell on when exactly Pate, known as the Light God and Sun God, had such a group of Snake-men as his followers. He slowly unrolled the Chain Lightning scroll in his hand.

Since the scroll was made long ago, it still used the spell casting method of "faction magic," utilizing the power of the Magic Network. Now Lynch directly tapped into the power of the Magic Origin, and his spellcasting method was also very different from before. His main goal now was how to extract the magic energy from the scroll and re-ignite it using the Magic Origin Power he could wield.

His gaze lightly swept over the profound text on the scroll, his mind gradually recalling the structure of the magic. Many spell components were dismantled one by one, recalculated into a new method, and then reassembled. As time passed slowly, seeing that the Snake-man High Priest had already closed the box containing the Snake Egg in front of him, the ritual was reaching its end, and beads of sweat were already appearing on Lynch’s forehead.

All the Snake-men began to acclaim "Uslah, U~~~slah!" all bowing in worship to the High Priest in the middle of the altar. Lynch’s hand was constantly trembling, with powerful lightning energy grasped in his hand. The entire energy ball was extremely unstable, ready to explode at any moment.

In the end, Lynch still could not grasp this product of intertwining the two magic systems. He felt the energy ball in his hand beginning to unleash the power of thunder and lightning and suddenly chanted the last few words of the spell, forcefully casting it out.

Unexpectedly, this hybrid creation’s power far exceeded the original spell’s strength. The light of lightning immediately exploded among the Snake-men. What was originally a white chain-shaped lightning now turned into a massive blue net, tightly covering the Snake-men’s ranks, with every being present undergoing the assault of this energy.

The worst hit was the Snake-man High Priest in the center of the platform. Lynch found it very strange, as Snake-men should be immune to lightning energy, yet how could the High Priest be so weak? The chain lightning energy, wandering among the Snake-men without a place to release, suddenly surged onto him, with crackling thunder constantly erupting from his body. His entire body was bombarded into the air by the continuous lightning strikes, and whenever he fell back down, another bolt of lightning would catch him again.

The Snake-men, caught in the sudden attack, instantly turned into chaos. Rising up in the dazzling blue light, they looked all around for the perpetrator of the attack, seemingly forgetting to quickly leave the attacked area for a moment. They squinted, flicking their long forked tongues, turning their triangular heads, scanning all possible hiding spots. In an instant, the whole altar area was filled with the sound of "hissing."

One Snake-man pointed to where Lynch was hiding and shouted, all the snakes turned their heads in unison, looking at this small area of the entrance. Lynch suddenly felt cold sweat pouring out of him, the feeling of being stared at by hundreds of snakes was unsettling, the piercing light from their eyes could easily terrify faint-hearted people to the point of passing out, and most terrifying was that most of these snakes were already holding crossbows, all aiming at the mage’s location.

Lynch’s heart leaped into his throat, praying fervently for his lightning to explode immediately.

As if hearing the Mage’s thoughts, the chain lightning finally exploded one after another in the cave. The endless roar shook the entire cave, and the rapidly expanding airflow shot out from the sacrificial hall’s opening. This accumulated explosive force overwhelmingly flung Lynch out, throwing him far from the Sacrificial Hall.
