Chapter 65: Episode 13 Enter the City_2
The city of Gray Dwarves is different from the caves of the Dwarves. Dwarves directly carve into the stone walls, connecting each layer with countless platforms and stairs, creating a nest-like residential style. In contrast, Gray Dwarves extract stone, slowly building houses with various types and colors of stones. This way of living is closer to their neighbors, the Dark Elves.
The guard enthusiastically introduced the special sites of the city, from the never-ceasing Blacksmith Hall to the mysterious Enlightenment Temple, from the triumphal commemorative statue built to celebrate the victory over the Minotaurs to the ancient library that gathers the skills of craftsmen. Every grass, tree, person, and object in the city flowed from the mouth of the Gray Dwarf guard like water.
As they passed through the bustling market, they arrived at an inn called "Red Mushroom." The guard briefly introduced the benefits of this inn and then turned and left.
If this Gray Dwarf had asked for money or tried to gather any information from them, Lynch would not have felt suspicious. However, the attitude change of the guard at the city gate and his unusually warm reception on the way made Lynch feel a sense of unease when he looked at the "Red Mushroom" inn.
He glanced around, seeing a weapon shop opposite the inn, with shelves filled with an array of weapons of various models. Lynch pondered for a moment; the first thing he needed to do here was to instill awe among the Gray Dwarves, scaring away potential enemies, thereby reducing any possible dangers they might encounter here.
He waved his hand and led the others into the weapon shop instead of heading for the inn.
"Deluo, see if there’s a weapon you can use, have a good look," Lynch said, while secretly casting the "Detect Magic" spell. As he expected, there were no magical weapons in the shop.
"Great, I didn’t want to be empty-handed anymore," Deluo jumped into the shop and began examining the stock on the shelves one by one.
"Lynch, what do you think of this longsword? Look at the craftsmanship, the blade can even be used as a mirror."
"Can it pierce a lizard’s hard shell?"
"Lynch, look, isn’t this curved blade nice? With its curling arc, a slight force will easily slice through an enemy’s skeleton."
"The blade isn’t deep enough to injure the vital parts of large creatures."
"Then how about this two-handed greatsword? I think I would look both mighty and elegant wielding it, able to slay enemies with each swing."
"Too light, your strength would break it. Look for the heaviest weapons."
After a while, a Gray Dwarf ran over to the mage, sweating profusely. He used the towel on his shoulder to wipe the sweat from his bald head and said to Lynch breathlessly, "Sir, your men have already started trying the hundred-pound spears used by the Minotaurs or Hill Giants. Sir, just tell me what you want, and I’ll craft it for you, alright?"
Looking at the crowd gathering at the shop’s entrance, Lynch pretended to think for a moment: "Bring out the best weapon you have for me to see."
Soon enough, Deluo came over with a long spear, "Lynch, look, how about this? They say it’s the best and sturdiest weapon here. See this weight and size. Now you can’t complain, right? I’m taking this one."
"Put it on the table, I’ll take a look." Once Deluo had placed the spear, Lynch stood up, using all his strength, and slammed his left fist hard onto the spearhead.
The hardness of Refined Gold is the strongest among known natural metals; just a little on a blade can easily break other weapons. Lynch’s arm is made entirely of Refined Gold, several times stronger than those with a mere hint of it, let alone the spear made of ordinary ore on the table.
Let’s not forget, the weight of this arm is also astonishing.
With a boom, the table and spear both broke in half.
"Whatever, there’s nothing good here. Deluo, let’s go," Lynch said as he stood up and headed towards the inn across the street. The spectators quickly made way for the mage, unaware of Lynch’s arm hidden under his wide sleeve, and the Dwarves were too shocked to figure out what had just happened.
Deluo and Nimo followed suit. Zilvra squinted, watching the mage’s back with an intrigued look, then followed after.
They simply rented a room for the four of them, with Nimo and Zilvra going off to see what food was available. As soon as Deluo shut the door, Lynch slumped down, clutching his left shoulder.
"What’s the matter, Lynch?" Deluo hurried over, helping him into a chair.
"I’m never doing that again, it hurt like hell. I didn’t expect the backlash to be so strong," Lynch grumbled, rubbing his shoulder in frustration.
"Who asked you to do that? Your arm is strong enough, but it shouldn’t be used as a hammer," Deluo said, stifling a laugh.
"Hmph, Deluo, I remind you once more, be cautious about everything. I feel there’s a lot wrong here."
"Still worried about Zilvra? She’s been fine all the way here," Deluo was slightly annoyed seeing Lynch always cold towards the girl during the journey.
"Just be cautious. Dark Elves are very treacherous and evil."
Deluo looked at Lynch, puzzled. How could the mage label such an innocent child as treacherous and evil? He frowned, trying to discern a flaw from the mage’s expression. Lynch merely looked back at him calmly.
"Oh, big guy Deluo!" The door swung open. After two days traveling together, Zilvra finally learned the names of her companions. "Nimo can’t bring something up from downstairs, and I can’t move it either. Could you help?"
"Alright," Deluo stood up, lightly patting the mage’s shoulder, nodding slightly, indicating "I understand, I’ll be cautious, don’t worry." Then he walked out the door, thumping down the stairs.
Zilvra closed the door and stood in the middle of the room. She raised her head, looked coldly at Lynch, losing all her lively enthusiasm, instead absorbing the surrounding warmth like an abyss.
Zilvra’s lips curled into a cold smile: "Mage, it’s time..."
