Chapter 56: Episode 9 Crystal Wall_2
"Where is that tower?"
"The underground city was called Ratris City at the time. I left from the south gate, but the escape route was too complex, and I don’t remember the exact location of the tower."
"Ratris City..." Lynch rubbed his temples. "Looks like I need to visit the Underworld."
"No, young mage. Although you mages are the most powerful beings on the continent, the Underdark is fraught with dangers. Don’t risk your life. Only go there when you have the strength of a Great Mage. You’re still young. Moreover, you don’t have a compelling reason to go. We’re not going to rebuild this Transmission Device."
"No, Elder Langda. I have a very good reason to go there. My mentor is a Great Mage specializing in prophecy (see appendix), and I have learned many prophecy spells. Over time, I’ve also gained some ability to perceive the future. This time, my feeling is unusually strong. If we don’t go to the underworld and find the other components of this Transfer Array, unimaginable consequences may occur."
"Unimaginable?"
"Yes, I have this feeling, like a sense of impending doom. There are also other reasons for me to venture into the Underworld. In your city, I discovered the Arcane Secret Scroll and the Creation Law. There should be three other parts of the scroll lost in this world. I want to find them. In Ratris City, there’s a Black Crystal Tower that houses a Divine Artifact, an artifact that can be used to find specific items. I must go there and take a look. Additionally, the blueprint of the Transmission Array should include a component for locating. I want to find that thing and see exactly what has come into our world."
"How do you know what kind of Divine Artifact is there? I’ve been there for 30 years and never heard about it." The dwarf looked surprised.
"The Mage Association has records of the locations of all the Divine Artifacts on the continent."
"You’re going alone? That’s not right." Langda said, "Since it’s my fault for causing such trouble, if you don’t mind my old bones, I’d like to revisit Ratris City."
"No, thank you for your kindness, Elder, I have a better candidate."
................
"Hey, lovely little sister, the air here is somewhat murky today, but I can smell a refreshing sense beside you. How could such a cute girl like you have her youthful vitality ruined by this kind of foul atmosphere daily? If you don’t mind, I’d love to accompany you to a truly refreshing and enchanting place to appreciate the beauty of nature."
As Lynch walked toward the ward where Deluo was, he witnessed this scene. The tall Deluo was holding a small flower, earnestly courting a dwarf lady not even half his height.
The mage walked up behind him just in time to hear Deluo’s sappy declaration. The little dwarf girl’s face was blushing red. If Deluo hadn’t been holding on to her sleeve, the lady would have probably run away by now.
"Deluo, you snuck out, huh. Looks like you’re recovering well." Lynch placed his refined gold arm on Deluo’s shoulder, and the sudden weight nearly made the strong guy stumble.
"I say, Deluo, how old are you this year?"
"Me? 23. Mage sir, could you please take your left hand off first? It’s really too heavy." Deluo said with a wry face, his refined gold arm holding him firmly.
"By the way, Miss Dwarf, could I ask your age?" Lynch ignored Deluo’s request.
"I... I’m 48 this year." The little dwarf said shyly.
Deluo’s jaw dropped, a look of deep shock on his face, and unconsciously he let go of the sleeve. The little dwarf clutched her face and ran off in a flash.
"Deluo, you fool. Don’t you know dwarves live almost four times as long as us humans? Just come quietly with me; I must leave here for a while. Leaving you here, I’d be worried a hundred times over. You must come with me. No room for negotiation." Deluo seemed not to hear and didn’t answer. Helpless, Lynch dragged the big guy, who still hadn’t recovered from the shock of the ’48-year-old little sister,’ out to shop for supplies.
Lynch knew well that adventures in the Underworld were full of all sorts of dangers. A moment of inattention could mean the loss of a precious life, so no amount of preparation was too much. Deluo claimed to be a romantic warrior from a romantic country, possessing romantic power, so he should have a romantic weapon. But looking at all sorts of tiny items in the general store and then back at Deluo’s large hands, Lynch had no choice but to buy a tree and use a few small spells he learned from the Creation Law to turn it into a giant wooden club, which he handed to Deluo.
"You! You want me to use this? That’s too unfair! How can such a crude weapon match my romantic style?" Deluo threw the giant wooden club aside, yelling at Lynch.
Lynch didn’t say anything but took out a dagger about 20 centimeters long. "Then use this, it’s their longsword. I can’t find a bigger weapon."
Deluo looked at the ’longsword’ lying in his palm: he couldn’t even grasp the hilt properly. It was thin and short, and with just three of his fingers, he could entirely cover the sword hilt.
"By the way, the Underworld is often home to a creature called the Horror Claw Monster. They like to eat the flesh of various creatures. Nothing much else, except their carapace is 30 centimeters thick." Lynch said in a calm tone as he placed food and water on the cargo saddle of a giant underground lizard.
Deluo looked at the ’longsword’ in his hand, then at the ’ugly giant wooden club’ lying on the ground. He inserted the longsword into his boot and picked up the wooden club. "Haha, oh, haha, actually, this is quite powerful, right, mage?"
Lynch didn’t need to look back to know that Deluo was definitely striking poses he considered ’strong, romantic, sexy, and invincibly charming to young women’ with the big wooden club.
Nimo came out from a corner and slowly walked over to Lynch; he was carrying a big package on his back and looked up at the mage. "Teacher, I still want to go on an adventure with you. Although you’ve told me many times that it’s full of danger and not suitable for me, you also said anything requires practice to hone and improve. So this time, I’ve made up my mind to go and see. Please let me follow you."
The mage looked at this little guy; his eyes were filled with firm conviction. According to age, Nimo was actually 10 years older than Lynch, which was why Lynch never wanted Nimo to call him teacher.
"With me around, you guys won’t be in danger. I’ll make meat patties out of any enemies that dare to mess with us. Since he wants to come, let him come. Anyway, he’s so short he won’t eat much food." Deluo said, acting serious as he swung the wooden club, striking at imaginary enemies while endlessly chattering behind Lynch.
"Then let’s hit the road together. But Nimo, you must call me by my name from now on; you cannot call me teacher. That’s my first requirement of you."
"No problem!" Nimo jumped with joy and threw his package onto the giant lizard’s back. "When are we leaving?"
Looking at the two guys who completely disregarded the danger, Lynch felt he should buy more healing potions. The current stock would likely be used up by these two novice adventurers within two weeks.
