Chapter 51: Episode 7 Black Dragon_2

Lynch originally thought that sending out three tons of mithril at once was extravagant enough, but he didn’t expect the dwarves to be so unrestrained in their use of it.

Standing among a group of dwarves, the tall Lynch could observe the entire hall without any obstruction. Langda walked to the side of the teleportation machine, gave a brief and humorous holiday greeting, and then started the transmission device. According to Nimo, they were trying to teleport an object from somewhere to the east this time.

The machine started. Lynch watched the eight rotating columns, which were like eight fingers pointing to the sky, and the entire machine resembled a giant hand reaching up to the heavens to request items.

The eight columns rotated faster and faster, and flashes of light continuously erupted from the platform. Most of the dwarves couldn’t withstand the stimulation of the high-frequency flashing lights and covered their eyes, with the only one unaffected on-site being Lynch, who had the Eye of Insight.

Lynch looked at the eight columns and slowly understood the significance of the gemstones on them—they actually represented the eight schools of magic. By using gemstones of different properties to draw energy of corresponding natures, they created a region that could mimic the conditions of any spatial property. When this space matched the space to be teleported, direct interaction could occur between the two.

This was essentially the same principle as the teleportation spell in magic, except that the dwarves used another method to gather energy.

The rotation speed of the columns began to slow, and some images appeared. They were likely the scenery of the destination being teleported to. Lynch looked at the increasingly clear image in the center of the instrument and recognized it as a mountaintop, surrounded by steep, unfathomable cliffs. Scattered on the mountaintop were some bright red or scorched black rocks, and there was nothing else around, not even a blade of grass.

Soon, a figure appeared in the image, blurry at first but quickly running toward Lynch’s direction. The scene became clearer, revealing a towering man, his muscles knotted and exceptionally strong, but his armor was tattered all over, with many bleeding wounds. As he ran, he frequently looked back, as if something was chasing him.

Lynch sensed something was amiss. He was about to speak when a deep roar erupted from the transporter. A blast of air spread out from the center of the eight columns in all directions, and the deafening sound filled the entire Dwarf City. The golden hall trembled violently as well, and the shockwaves knocked the dwarves nearest to the instrument to the ground one by one.

The image became clearer, with a black, winged figure flying from the distant horizon, swooping down towards the man running on the ground.

With a thud, the man appeared in the golden hall, bewildered by the sudden change of environment, and he crashed into a column before collapsing to the ground without a word.

Lynch suddenly realized the severity of the situation: if the man had been successfully teleported over, then the creature pursuing him might also be able to trace his trail and appear in the Dwarf City.

Lynch raised his hand, aimed at one of the gemstones on the column, and chanted a spell. As a flash burst from his fingertips, a lightning bolt as thick as a forearm shot out.

The gemstone on the column was instantly shattered by the lightning, turning into a cloud of gemstone dust blown away by the wind. The remaining seven columns of the machine were also affected, trembling violently and emitting a piercing screech like the sound of metal rods grinding against each other, making one’s teeth ache. The image inside the transporter began to destabilize, the scenery becoming twisted and blurred. Yet, the enormous figure appeared at the forefront of the image.

Good heavens! Lynch couldn’t help but exclaim in his heart. It was a giant dragon over a hundred feet long and nearly a hundred feet tall, its dark scales gleaming with a metallic luster, reflecting sunlight to create an effect resembling a halo. Between its scales, large gemstones of various kinds could be seen trapped in the crevices, refracting light in rainbow colors as they moved with the dragon’s motion, like another layer of rainbow covering the dragon.

The black dragon had a menacing presence. It squinted its eyes, surveying the surroundings, and the areas it glanced at trembled—even the sturdy rocks couldn’t withstand the oppressive feel of its gaze. Its enormous mouth revealed four rows of blade-like teeth, each as tall as half a person. The corners of its mouth were smeared with a tattered, blood-stained chain armor, and a severed arm hung weakly from between its teeth, swaying back and forth with the dragon’s head movements. The flesh on it was already mangled, like a rag doll torn to shreds by scissors.
