Chapter 288: Episode 8 Visitors_2
"Soka, you can’t fly today. We’ll talk about it later. For now, let Zilvra take you to the cabin and have a good rest," Lynch said apologetically to the angel. "I still need to talk to the old man who opens the boat about some matters."
Although a bit unhappy, Soka obediently complied, which might be one of the characteristics of a celestial creature. If it were a demon’s descendant, perhaps whatever you asked her to do, she would undoubtedly do the opposite.
Van Dijk looked at Lynch approaching: "Young man, what brings you here? You should be with that pretty young girl in the cabin. This old man doesn’t need help steering the boat."
"I’m not here to help you; I have no experience in actual sailing," Lynch said, standing upwind of Van Dijk to avoid the old sailor’s puffs of smoke. "I wanted to ask when druids started appearing around here?"
"Druids?" The old sailor’s brows knitted together tightly: "What’s going on? Are the druids causing you trouble? Those folks are really troublesome."
"Trouble? Not exactly," Lynch laughed. "I’m just curious. When I was young, they weren’t around here, but recently I’ve noticed signs of druid activity. How did they come to this area?"
"It’s because of that cockfighting event!" Van Dijk exhaled a large ring of smoke before holding the pipe in his hand and saying to Lynch, "You see, we were just having a cockfight, and those druids claimed it violated nature and was evil. They also disrupted last year’s contest. Fortunately, the lord’s troops were nearby to prevent any major chaos. I reckon they’ll come again this year." Then, lowering his voice as if afraid of being overheard, he added, "Haisas’s army has already gathered. If those druids dare to come, they’ll certainly be surrounded and eradicated."
"I see," Lynch replied. "Uncle Van Dijk, perhaps you could teach me how to sail. I’ve only read about it in books, never really done it."
"Haha, Lynch, you really aren’t going to spend time with the girl? That’s quite a loss. Tell you what, to make up for your loss, I’ll teach you all my sailing skills. But it’ll depend on how much you can learn."
With that, the old sailor handed the helm over to Lynch and began to share his years of experience in an endless stream.
The eagle in the sky continued to circle, its eyes constantly watching the silhouettes on the boat, observing the mage’s movements.
In the evening, since the river’s surface was no longer visible, Van Dijk anchored the boat by the shore. He had already hung a small fish net at the stern, and in just a short while, the tasty specialty of the Fengduo River was in the pot for everyone to enjoy.
"Come, come, try my cooking. This is fish cooked by an old chef, something not everyone can taste." Van Dijk called out to Zilvra. "Young lady, you should eat more. Your complexion is so pale, you must not have good nutrition. Lynch is good in every way, but he’s not great at taking care of people. You might want to be more understanding of that."
Zilvra looked at Van Dijk, not understanding why he would say that. Lynch had only repaired a boat for Van Dijk in lieu of travel expenses, and they didn’t owe each other anything. Why did the old sailor keep speaking highly of Lynch? Were there some mysterious debts unsettled? Her complexion was pale only because a female drow still couldn’t adapt to the sunlight on the surface. After riding for a while, she had to cover her eyes, and even during the day, she had to hide in the cabin. Although she could endure longer each time, it would still take a while before she could act normally.
Soka was beside them, stuffing unknown berries into her mouth. Although she ate a lot of good things in the celestial, she’d never had the chance to gorge herself like this. Seeing the little one eating nothing but fruit, Van Dijk hurriedly called out, "Young girl, come and try my fish soup. I guarantee you’ll shout it’s delicious."
"Will the fish taste better than the berries?" Soka asked, running over. The whole day, she had stayed by Zilvra’s side. Aside from Lynch, Zilvra rarely spoke first, which was stifling for the lively Soka.
