Chapter 170: Episode 61 Inside the Tower
"Mr. Earth Surface Mage, your servant just told me your name. May I address you by your name directly? Oh, you can call me Aulos, but I’m usually on patrol, so we probably won’t meet often," said the young Drow Mage.
"You can call me by my name." Lynch looked at the Black Crystal Tower and casually agreed.
Aulos lowered his head, a cold smile fleeting across his face. In the world of the Dark Elves, the layers between the classes are very distinct, with the Dark Elf Matriarch at the top, followed by the Drow priestesses, who rule here. All female Dark Elves are Priests, or to put it another way, those who cannot become Priests have already been "eliminated"—the rate of elimination is high, and those Drow priestesses who survive are all powerful beings. Only Zilvra, due to her white skin, was rejected by the Spider Temple and wasn’t trained or made into a Priest. The First Family extraordinarily did not "eliminate" her, thus creating Ratris City’s only Female Dark Elf Warrior in history.
Women hold absolute dominance in the entire Dark Elf society, and all other classes are worlds apart from these priestesses in status.
Three types of people occupy the highest positions among males: the Martial Arts Master—the family’s strongest warriors and leaders of the guard, who cut the throats of all those who stand in their way; the Squire, to put it bluntly, is the matron’s closest male, providing bedroom service and occasionally having a say in family affairs and managing trivial matters; lastly, the Adviser, a title usually reserved for non-family members. Although they have no authority in family matters, they are all strong and wise representatives—only wise people cannot last long in this position.
Next are the family Mage and elite warriors. The core is generally made up of the matron’s sons, who are born nobles and near the core ruling class of the Dark Elves. Other Drow offspring may only be granted noble titles after undergoing rigorous training or achieving notable military accomplishments. Ordinary Mages, due to their rarity, regardless of their strength, also fall within this hierarchy.
Then there are the general warriors, who are also Dark Elves. They are at the bottom of the Drow race, responsible for various daily activities, hoping to gain merit or, more simply, become Squires to gain greater power.
This is the structure of a Dark Elf Family, with all other races below it—common residents and city slaves, who trade their blood, sweat, and dignity for survival under the Dark Elves, risking losing their heads with any misstep.
Except for the priestesses, everyone else may lose their title at any time. The Martial Arts Master holds the most stable position, while the Squire is the most unstable—who knows when the matron might fancy a change of taste? In a family with clear hierarchies, lower ranks must either show enough respect to higher ranks or die. This is the rule, and in the Drow World, it is an axiom.
Therefore, addressing others is very particular. Even though Lynch has considerable strength, if he dared to call out the name "Batana," even as a family Adviser Mage, he wouldn’t survive.
Just now, Lynch focused on watching the magnificent Black Crystal Tower and didn’t notice this issue. Subconsciously, he thought he was back at the Mage Association—on the earth’s surface. He agreed to Aulos calling him by his first name.
The young Drow always appeared very polite because he knew Lynch was the Adviser Mage of the First Family, a position almost equivalent to the highest among the males in Ratris City. Furthermore, this male came from the Surface World, and being in that position represents his immense power. But Aulos was definitely not what he appeared on the surface. He took the patrol assignment to experience the thrill of killing. And the newly arrived Mage, not using his title and allowing others to call him by name, had already lowered his status.
Underneath his large sleeves, Aulos rubbed his hands excitedly. His fingers twitched slightly, as if unable to restrain the excitement from within. "A Mage from the Surface!" he licked his lips, thinking to himself, "This is a good target!"
