Chapter 156: 54 episodes Temple (7)_2

Zilvra drew the black thin sword once more, mechanically holding it aloft, then slowly lowering it, the tip aiming directly at the mage’s brow. Her eyes looked at Lynch, who was seated on the ground, but she couldn’t see the mage’s figure. She was merely opening her eyes, not truly ’seeing’.

Lynch’s right hand gently felt for the Powerful Wand, which had fallen beside him during the explosion. He carefully moved his arm, making the movements as light as possible to avoid provoking Zilvra or the Witch Demon. Attracting their attention would only announce his death prematurely. The Witch Demon remained motionless, barely sustained by its half remaining body. Its left hand pointed at the female Drow, muttering incantations.

Zilvra’s body trembled, and her thin sword became slightly unsteady, wobbling as it advanced slowly through the air.

"Zilvra! Are you going to destroy hope yourself?" Lynch erupted with energy accumulated for a long time, transforming it into words that echoed persistently in the female Drow’s ears.

"Yes!" a voice reminded Zilvra in her heart, "If you want to leave the Underworld, you must rid yourself of the family’s tracking mark! And the only spellcaster who can help you now is Lynch!"

The long-held desires and cravings gave Zilvra immense support, and her Celestial lineage played a role at this moment. Though she hadn’t escaped the Witch Demon’s control, Zilvra’s sword stopped entirely in midair, not moving forward an inch.

The Witch Demon cursed, its voice now mixed with anger. As an undead, it should be devoid of emotions, having long abandoned them. Yet, repeated failures stirred memories from when it still lived, rekindling an emotion: anger!

Batana Matron’s body stirred slightly. This resilient Dark Elf High Priest was gradually gathering strength throughout her body through sheer willpower. The Witch Demon knew that if the Matron regained consciousness, with the help of the Spider Goddess’s Divine Arts, she could instantly heal all bodily wounds and restore her strength.

The Witch Demon lacked such capability. Weighing the threat of the immobilized mage against the awakening Matron, the Witch Demon controlled Zilvra to lunge at Batana.

Lynch didn’t care about the Dark Elf Matron’s life or death in the slightest, but he had to consider the overall situation. Only Batana still had the strength to oppose the Witch Demon; she was the only one capable of destroying this undead. Although Lynch might be the next to be eliminated after the Witch Demon’s death, the mage had no other choice now.

Quickly contemplating in his mind, Lynch pondered how to stop Zilvra’s action. From the previous events, it appeared that the Witch Demon’s spells weren’t fully successful, and the controlled Drow still had some self-assertion. As long as there was a compelling reason, Zilvra should be able to break free from the control.

The female Drow’s sword was about to pierce Batana’s neck when Lynch’s voice rang out: "Zilvra! Kill the Matron, and you become the Matron. Do you want to be bound by this title in Ratris City for the rest of your life?"

Just as before, Zilvra’s sword stopped moving. Becoming Matron meant a Spiritual Connection with the Spider Goddess, which under such circumstances, meant Zilvra would never truly be free and could never find a place to hide unless she destroyed the Spider Goddess herself.

"Kill her! Kill! Kill! Kill!" the Witch Demon screamed in fury, no longer using Spiritual Power to connect with the controlled Drow’s mind but directly issuing verbal commands—the Witch Demon’s emotions had grown too agitated to maintain the Spiritual Connection.

Under the dual spiritual force onslaught, the female Drow’s brain chose to faint. Zilvra’s thin sword clattered to the ground, and she also collapsed, as if her bones no longer supported her, toppling before the Matron. Batana opened her eyes just in time to see her daughter slump down and the half-bodied Witch Demon yelling.

"Bastard!" From an unknown source of strength, the Matron stood straight up. Her wounds hadn’t been treated by Divine Arts, and the exertion caused blood to spurt out. She didn’t care, focusing her fury purely on this undead. The Matron had always been invincible, never having suffered a loss in any battle, let alone being struck down. Her Priest Robe had never been soiled. She was the epitome of might; she was the pinnacle of the Dark Elf Priesthood, she was Batana! A name capable of making the entire Underdark tremble!
