Chapter 148: Episode 51 Temple (Part 4)_2

But from another perspective, she seemed so foolish. Even if she did not possess the Eye of Insight like a Mage, could she not use her own brain, open her eyes wide, and take a good look at those so-called treasures? This place had clearly endured countless ages, even the statues and murals had turned to ash, how could those Gold Coins and swords still appear as if newly forged? Although there seemed to be a layer of dust on these treasures, the thickness was obviously different from the dust that would accumulate over a millennium. If one couldn’t notice these things, how could they survive in the Underdark?

Lynch watched as Matron Batana nodded in agreement with the mercenaries’ proposal, and felt a sinking feeling. The Matron must have seen through the trick in this hall; otherwise, with the nature of a Dark Elf, how could she allow others to take so many things in her presence? But that foolish woman still hadn’t realized anything amiss and was instead calling her Trolls and Ogres towards that pile of treasure.

"Stop!" Lynch stepped forward. He knew that doing so seemed a bit foolish and appeared very dangerous. But he couldn’t just watch those guys walk to their deaths. Even if they were merely

goblins and Trolls, they were the villains in the mouths of the Surface World residents, the destroyers of villages. Yet, at least in front of Lynch, they had not done anything evil, and in Ratris City, the Mage had not heard of them committing any misdeeds. In this Underworld, they were merely the pitiable lowest social class—slaves, or a bunch of pitiable souls fighting with their blood for survival.

"Those treasures do not exist!"

The mercenaries’ Ogres laughed heartily, mocking the human male. In their view, those who could not wield a giant sword or sharp axe, or had skin that wasn’t dark, were nothing but insects, powerless and pathetic like an ant on the ground. Their unique ’

pride’ had been suppressed too long in front of the Dark Elves, and now a human had appeared, they naturally wanted to fully display their mighty image, laughing arrogantly at this ’little’ guy. Those treasures were clearly right there, just reaching out could make one rich, how could they not exist?

"Adviser Mage, since they want those treasures, why do you wish to contest with them?" said Matron Batana calmly, "Could it be that the rewards our family has given you are insufficient? What else do you ’want’?"

Lynch felt the majesty emanating from the Matron, which required no language, no Magic effects, no wielding of weapons. It was an aura that only a well-experienced warrior could emit; behind the Dark Elf Matriarch stood the powerful Drow family, the powerful Ratris City, and the powerful Spider Goddess. She had the right to disdain any mortal in front of her, a natural authority honed through postnatal cultivation.

Lynch was not afraid of this aura; he opened his mouth to speak, but an icy little hand pressed onto his shoulder. Zilvra stood beside the Mage looking at him, gently shaking her head, and tugging the Mage back.

Lynch closed his mouth, he said nothing more. At that moment, his mind became exceptionally clear. Reflecting on his prior actions, he discovered a weakness within himself: petulance. In the face of overwhelming momentum, he had momentarily lost his equanimity; that attempt to confront the Matron only demonstrated his own recklessness, bringing no actual benefit. A Mage without intellect and perpetual calm would achieve nothing exceptional.

The group of trolls still laughed loudly, mimicking the Mage’s tone in their giant language, "Those things don’t exist~~~!" and burst into hearty laughter. Shouting with their leather bags in hand, they ran towards the illusionary pile. However, this time the human woman seemed to notice something and did not follow them.

Suddenly, from the empty eye socket of the statue, several beams of green light shot out, accurately hitting the mercenaries charging forward before anyone could react. Those Trolls and Ogres immediately halted their advance, frozen mid-step, as if an invisible wall suddenly appeared, blocking them entirely. Under the watchful eyes of the Dark Elf, the group of mercenaries slowly turned to stone. Their flesh and blood were no longer a soft yet powerful living entity but hardened and lifeless. They stood there, forever maintaining the posture they held the moment before death.
