Chapter 138: Episode 47 Discovery_2
The matron led the entire team toward that patch of darkness, crossing the boundary of the original stone wall and disappearing from Lynch’s sight. The Mage, supporting Zilvra’s shoulder, also stepped inside, feeling the ground vanish momentarily, startling him greatly. However, when he focused, he felt the firm earth beneath his feet again.
"So, we just passed through a huge Teleportation Gate," Lynch thought. "I never expected there would be a Teleportation Magic Array of this scale, no wonder the matron is confident she can silently lead the entire family away from Ratris City."
He could see his surroundings again, this time opening his eyes publicly. After they passed through the Teleportation Gate, Zilvra untied the cloth covering the Mage’s eyes. She placed a finger on her crimson lips, signaling the Mage to stay silent.
Lynch nodded, observing the surroundings. It was a spacious cave, much like other caves in the Underdark, with stalactites dripping with cold water hanging from an unseen ceiling. In the nurturing humid air, many underground mosses stubbornly grew in the crevices of rocks. The ground beneath was slightly slippery, making Lynch feel somewhat unsteady, so he tread carefully, his right hand still resting on Zilvra’s shoulder. The female Drow seemed accustomed to this way of walking, her agile movements ensured steady progress, preventing the Mage from falling in this cave.
Lynch did not dwell on the body temperature of the Female Dark Elf felt through his right hand, nor did he notice the slight increase from the start; his mind was reorganizing the information freshly gleaned about the Teleportation Magic Array. This was knowledge not taught by the surface Mage Association, nor recorded in the Arcane Secret Scroll. In some respects, Dark Elf magic certainly held its unique nuances.
Anyone wishing to leave here just needed not to erase the existing tracking imprint—a Mage had essentially confirmed it was a Divine Arts effect. Then, the First Family could use that Teleportation Magic Array at any time to reach the traitor, rendering escape to the ends of the earth meaningless. Lynch had already detected the suspected magical effect on himself, but as he was not a Priest and had little understanding of Divine Arts, reluctant to alert anyone, he avoided dealing with the Magic Array.
"It seems imperative to destroy the Tracking Magic Array on the Black Crystal Tower, otherwise a true victorious escape is impossible." Lynch followed Zilvra closely, progressing lightly in this dark Underworld. He found his movements increasingly synchronized with the Female Drow.
The entire Dark Elf army maintained silence, even as several hundred people marched. Lynch could distinctly hear droplets falling from the air, striking the stones with a crisp "pitter-patter." Such a well-disciplined army could undoubtedly appear rapidly and stealthily before any fortress, their enemies never realizing they were right under their noses. A single stealthy assassin isn’t terrifying, but what about a whole army of assassins?
After some time, another team joined them. It was a mixed mercenary force composed of various races. Goblins and Trolls, emitting disgusting heavy breaths, marched at the forefront of the Dark Elf troops—they were what you called cannon fodder.
The Mage carefully played the role of a Dark Elf advisor to avoid becoming cannon fodder himself, ensuring his life and death remained in his own hands. From the moment Lynch joined the Mage Association, he resolved never to become a pawn manipulated by others.
With almost complete darkness surrounding them, only faint glowing plants dotted the midnight-like Underworld. The Mage mechanically followed Zilvra forward, unsure of his current location or the time.
This monotony and tedious march finally halted; Lynch estimated they had traveled at least fifty miles since leaving the Teleportation Gate. He rubbed his sore legs, observing the surroundings.
