Chapter 133: 45 episodes Letter_2
Sometimes, conjecture is more accurate than research.
Lynch donned the clothes sent by Stone-leg Boss, which Zilvra had specially sent upon hearing of her "emergence" — a plain Dark Elf Mage robe. A finely crafted Dark Elf item, adorned with the Spider Goddess’s emblem along with some Magic Spells, presumably offering a degree of protection. The robe seemed quite aged, with evident wear on the shoulders and cuffs; however, apart from these, the rest of the robe bore no damage, nor any marks from magical attacks.
"I wonder who the previous owner of this Mage robe was?" Lynch pondered. But having inspected the robe and found no traps, he replaced the original Magic Network Energy with his own Magic Energy and draped the robe over himself.
"If you paint your face black, you could pass as a Dark Elf," Deluo commented, feeling oddly uncomfortable with Lynch’s new attire.
"Indeed, Lynch, wearing those clothes makes you look quite out of place," Nimo added, "Oh, by the way, a Dark Elf brought you a letter early this morning, saying you must read it."
"A letter?" Lynch took it with a sense of disbelief. In the Underworld, darkness always hovered around all beings; generally, no one would light a candle to read or write — most creatures here possessed Dark Vision. And as for letters, few would use them.
"Foolish Mage! Stay away from the Dark Elf City."
"Deluo, Nimo, take a look as well. No idea who sent this to us." Lynch passed the note around and walked directly to the innkeeper.
"Mr. Stone-leg, who delivered the letter this morning?"
"I don’t know either, Mage. You must know, all Dark Elves look quite alike." Stone-leg fumbled with his words.
"No need to pretend, Mr. Stone-leg. You’re deliberately putting on an awkward and evasive expression, clearly having some information to share, but wanting me to ask first. Let’s be straightforward — just tell me everything."
Stone-leg let out a soft sigh but said nothing immediately. Instead, he closed the inn’s doors and windows. Deluo and Nimo watched the old Dwarf’s actions silently and helped with the task.
Lynch walked to the bar, fetched a few glasses, and placed a fine bottle of wine on the tavern table downstairs. Once the Dwarf had finished tidying, he sat opposite the three, sipping his store’s liquor as he spoke.
"You’ve been targeted by the Dark Elf mercenaries here." Stone-leg took a sip, glancing around, "More precisely, it’s the local Thief Guild."
"I have no dealings with them; why come after me?"
"I’m not entirely sure. However, they’ve recently changed leadership. The former Dark Elf leader died suddenly, and reportedly, a Halfling has taken command of this mercenary guild," Stone-leg paused, catching his breath. "They might seek to use your power for a shake-up in the Dark Elf city..."
"That could be, but..." Lynch looked at his two companions, "I’m afraid I don’t have such power."
"You know, Mage," the innkeeper downed the fiery liquid in his glass decisively, "I believe you do have the power. Because Zilvra never misjudges anyone..."
"Zilvra?" Lynch heard the name again. Since leaving the Dwarf City, that pale-skinned Dark Elf seemed increasingly entwined with their trio’s journey — from the battles in Gray Dwarf City, the encounter in the Petrified Lizard Habitat, to earning the title of first family Adviser Mage, and the recent battle with the Ancient God. Zilvra appeared like a guide, gradually leading them to this perilous point.
"What’s her story?"
"She is the only Dark Elf yet to be brainwashed by the Spider Goddess, still a good person," the Dwarf reminisced, "Don’t look at me like that. I wasn’t born in this wretched dark place. I was a slave once! Do you know, a Duel Arena slave. You can’t fathom the horrors of that life. But I can tell what’s good and what’s bad."
