Chapter 129: 43 episodes Conference (Part 2)_2
"No, you make a good point." To everyone’s surprise, Matron Batana acknowledged the accuracy of the mage’s words. "The Spider Goddess has declared that within that temple, there will appear an entity that threatens all gods and mortals in the world. It must be destroyed."
All the Dark Elves present gasped audibly; the news was truly terrifying.
"Since it has the potential to cause such a disaster, the reward for completing the task must also be quite generous," continued the mage. "If this task can please the gods, the first family will forever be Bernie in the coming millennia!"
Hearing this, all the female Drow’s eyes gleamed with greed. They had experienced the title of the first family for millennia. That lofty sense of superiority was like sweet wine, unforgettable. Another thousand years, and they would all have the opportunity to become the matron of the first family, to become the person who holds the power in this city.
"So, what suggestions do you have, mage?" The matron propped her chin with her hand, looking at the mage below the steps with interest.
"Since the Spider Goddess requires the first family to fight with all their might, it indicates the arduous nature of this task. I believe in complying with the Goddess’s orders absolutely, using our full strength, and gathering all possible assistance. Half-hearted actions would undoubtedly anger the Goddess, resulting in great trouble." Lynch walked to the center of the hall with his magic wand and spoke slowly. "However, this would make the family’s stronghold very vulnerable, an enticing lure for all the others."
"Don’t keep us in suspense. Since you’ve thought of this problem, you should have a solution." Batana smiled, not at all anxious, looking down at the mage.
"Yes, my Matron, you are indeed foresighted." Lynch nodded slightly in acknowledgment. "The solution is for the first family to consolidate their forces before undertaking this task, strictly guarding the stronghold. Then, spread the word that the family has received a direct oracle from the Goddess."
"What? Spread the word? How would that benefit us?" the matron questioned.
"Naturally, it’s not about spreading the content of the oracle but spreading the fact of receiving the oracle. By altering the content, claim that the first family has received the oracle to destroy one or more factions displeasing to the Spider Goddess. Under these circumstances, other families might inquire with the Spider Goddess about the truth of the matter—though some might not even have the capability. So, what conclusion will they reach from their inquiries?"
"Naturally, that the matter is true." The matron laughed softly, "I begin to understand your intent, continue."
"The general families barely qualify to question the Divine Servants, let alone ask the Spider Goddess directly. Therefore, they are absolutely unaware of the true target of this attack. Larger families will tighten defenses since the involvement of the first family’s full might would strike fear in all Dark Elves. They will eagerly seek opportunities to please the Spider Goddess; smaller families will live in constant fear of becoming one of the ’snipped’ families."
"The most interesting part is that all families will want to follow in the first family’s footsteps, hoping to share in the spoils. After all, it’s a chance to directly please the Spider Goddess. So, before the action, the entire city will become quiet. No one dares attack the first family at this time, fearing the direct orders of the Spider Goddess. This buys us time and preparation space."
"Then comes a sudden action, unexpected by all elf families; the first family does not attack any Dark Elves in Ratris City, disappearing from the city all at once—here, I boldly speculate that the temple is located outside the city’s range. They will be shocked and start searching for the first family’s whereabouts. As long as we conceal our tracks well, we naturally gain several days of buffer."
"Even if they discover the first family is no longer in the city, fearful of the Goddess’s direct oracle, they dare not openly act against the family’s stronghold. They fear a stronger first family upon task completion and that the Spider Goddess will abandon those who dare to disrupt. Thus, those already on edge will search for attackable targets. I estimate that by the time we return victorious, the city will already be in chaos."
"Good, that’s pretty much what I was thinking." Batana waved her hands, interrupting Lynch’s speech, "Let’s proceed according to this plan. Now, all priests, follow me."
Everyone else left, Zilvra included. She ran to Lynch’s side: "Come with me..."
The mage, though puzzled by the intentions of this guy, was clearly still in the Dark Elf Family’s castle, not a good place for a fight. Lynch helplessly followed.
They flew continuously down through the castle, reaching a cold underground chamber. On the stone walls, covered in water droplets, stood a gigantic, heavy iron door, mottled with rust, exuding a chilling aura from the gap below. Zilvra opened a small hatch next to the iron door, saying to the mage: "Lynch, you must become strong. Go in now."
"Why should I go in? I don’t want to be ’strong’ using your Dark Elf methods." Lynch, with the Eye of Insight, could glimpse behind the door but could not discern what creatures were there, only sensing a powerful malevolent aura, a sense of death.
Seeing Lynch turn to leave, Zilvra suddenly lunged, her lips pressing heavily against Lynch’s mouth, cradling the mage’s face with both hands. When she gently pulled away, her face now flushed, she only whispered: "Become strong and come back to save me..."
The mage, just recovering from shock, managed not to release the Lightning Spell gathering in his left hand. In the moment of his stupor, Zilvra flipped and body-slammed him, throwing Lynch into the iron door.
Closing the hatch, Zilvra leaned against the wall, gasping for breath, then vigorously rubbed her mouth: "Bleh, bleh, what taste is that? Not at all like they say."
From behind the iron door came the constant boom of spell explosions interspersed with beast-like roars. From beneath the door’s gap, flashes of various colors burst forth, causing the door, reinforced with Sealing Magic, to alternately heat and cool with the relentless spells’ impact.
Zilvra patted her chest, gradually adjusting her breath back to normal, slowly leaving the chamber. She turned back to glance at the iron door, muttering to herself: "Why is that guy so heavy?"
