Chapter 128: Episode 43 - Meeting (Part 2)
"You two, pay attention and look around to see where you are and what your status is." Batana stood up from her throne, and Zarra quickly stepped forward to support her right hand, kissing her fingertips.
"Matron, it was this mage who started the provocation." As Zarra kissed the Matron’s hand, she spoke.
"I am not blind, I can see." Batana shook off her hand and took a few steps forward, looking at the people below the steps, "I see very clearly, including the magic battle that broke out in my castle a month ago."
She walked to the martial monk, and her children hurriedly ran down from the steps, huddling behind her with their heads lowered, not daring to stand higher than the Matron. Meanwhile, everyone originally below the steps, except for Lynch, bent their bodies even lower.
"Regula, you have been here long enough, so you naturally know what to do!" The Matron scolded the martial monk loudly.
Watching the martial monk across with a seemingly "obedient" expression, Lynch couldn’t help but find it amusing. Though it seemed like saving face, anyone could tell it was just an act—no Matron would personally reprimand a "lowly" human martial monk, at most she would have her children deal with it. Besides, enjoying the privilege of being scolded is reserved for Dark Elf Nobles; for those who defy the Matron or any other Dark Elf Female Nobles, a swift death is their only luxury.
So when the Matron turned to Lynch, he immediately dispelled the Frozen Ring on his body, nodded, and slightly bowed to show respect—a courtesy usually reserved for mages when facing a King or other Great Mages.
The Matron said no more about the conflict between the mage and the martial monk. Instead, she scanned the family members groveling before her and then turned back to her throne.
"A few days ago, I received an oracle, a direct command from the Spider Goddess. Praise the Goddess!"
"Ah! Praise the Goddess!" The room echoed with a synchronized response.
"You all know that receiving a direct command from the Goddess is a glorious thing. In the past, we could receive quite a few oracles, but all were issued by the Divine Servants of the great Spider Goddess. But this time, it is a direct command from the Goddess herself."
"Matron, what exactly is the oracle?" Zarra couldn’t help but ask eagerly.
Batana glanced sideways at her daughter, clearly annoyed by the interruption of her speech. "The content of this oracle is for our family to do everything possible to destroy an ancient temple that has just reappeared."
Lynch stroked his chin, contemplating the current situation. His furrowed brows caught the Matron’s attention.
"Adviser Mage, do you have any suggestions?" Batana suddenly asked. Those High Priestesses, who had always hoped to attract the Matron’s attention and become the next Matron, wished she would ask for their opinions, but the outsider mage got the first word. Their resentment towards this outsider grew even stronger.
"The key is this ’ancient’ god’s temple. Since it involves an ancient god, it refers to a god who died in the war between the mages and the gods, which should have vanished from the world. Now, this suddenly appearing temple is extremely bizarre. And since the Spider Goddess demands such action, I suspect this ancient god seeks to resurrect and threatens the Spider Goddess’s status..."
"Nonsense!" A Dark Elf Female Priest suddenly rebuked: "You, a human, dare to utter such blasphemous words! Don’t you know the power of the Spider Goddess?"
"Sinaphi! Stand down! While I am listening to the adviser’s opinion, you should stay quietly aside!" Giving a signal, Batana shot a glance, and Zarra immediately drew the snake whip from her waist, striking the interrupting Dark Elf to the ground.
All the other Drow looked on expressionlessly at the unfortunate one. Oh, not all were expressionless; some had sinister smirks of schadenfreude.
"Matron, what I just said was merely conjecture, please don’t take it to heart..." Lynch said, actually adding fuel to the fire, insinuating that even such a conjecture would provoke the female priest’s anger, showing her lack of psychological cultivation.
