Chapter 106: Episode 33 Bait_2

The torchlight may not harm the Drow, but it certainly makes them uncomfortable. Gradually, the market in Ratris City saw fewer Dark Elves, and as a result, it thrived.

This place gathered almost every kind of goods you could find in the Underdark. Various ores and precious materials, exquisite vessels and fresh food, rare beasts and refined armor. The only thing off-limits for trade was weapons. All weapons had to be inspected by the Dark Elf Family — during which about 30% of the "unqualified" items would usually be confiscated — before the exclusive merchants of the Drow family could trade them. Thus, the best weapons were stored in the Drow’s treasury, the better ones were bought by mercenary organizations, and only the poorest quality ones appeared in the market. Even so, their prices were still astonishingly high, and those wielding these weapons would find they could not withstand attacks from Underground Demons. Soon, these purchased weapons would return to the market as "abandoned items" or "spoils of war."

This was a unique cycle of the Underdark.

The Mage wasn’t here to pick weapons today; he came to handle some matters. But don’t assume he’d find a spot to lay down a cloth and set up a stall; he wasn’t lacking money. They were here to fish for something: a pass for the city.

That didn’t equate to Riel’s identification documents. Such things only ensured you wouldn’t be executed as a runaway slave. What they wanted was something to integrate into the city: a letter of introduction or a good relationship with the Mercenary Guild, or mutual recognition with the Thief Guild. In short, Lynch needed to find another force different from the Drow family. After all, he planned to leave here someday.

Lynch didn’t know how to find such help, so he wandered around the market, checking for any rare items. Deluo was dizzy from the various beauty promotions of different races along the roadside until Lynch whispered in his ear, "Those guys might be hideous creatures like old hags or Ogre Wizards in disguise." Only then did he calm down and follow the Mage obediently. However, his drooping head looked like a large vegetable wilting under the sun.

Lynch was continually using his Eye of Insight, observing everything around him from all angles. Aside from the noisy and crowded vendors and customers, there were quite a few living off others’ purses. Lynch was hoping someone would attempt to rob them, to confirm if there really was a Thief Guild here.

But the more he hoped to be stolen from, the less anyone approached him.

Now he somewhat regretted if he had been too harsh at the inn. Could it be that the Thief Guild here was so weak that they were intimidated by one of his Curse Magic spells?

But Nimo secretly rejoiced that these gemstones or pretty trinkets wouldn’t be sold off. Suddenly, Lynch turned and strode toward a tent. The Dwarf, anxious, regretfully patted the large bag full of goods on Deluo’s back and followed.

While using the Eye of Insight, Lynch accidentally detected a faint magical glow. This glow appeared on all Magic Items, and the greater the item’s power, the stronger the glow.

Seeing some Magic Items in the Dark Elf City wasn’t rare. After all, all Drow Nobles were equipped with Magic Weapons and armor. The intensity of that glow just now was far less even than the most common Magic Sword, but the energy level it represented was very high. It’s possible that there were remnants of a powerful Magic Item there.

Lynch walked into the gray tent, inside which only a Hunchback Grey Dwarf was staring at him. It looked like a place specializing in selling antique items, with various bizarre sculptures and fragments full of unknown patterns neatly arranged on the shelves.

The Gray Dwarf seemed surprised to see a customer so soon, then jumped up, quickly wiping the dust off the goods with a cloth by his side: "Ah, sir, what do you need? We have all sorts of mysterious items here, all snatched back by adventurers from dangerous ruins and terrifying monsters, whether for..."
