Chapter 26: trail 2

Chapter 26: trail 2

Kai’s fist slammed into Pyrothane’s chest, the surge of chi erupting like a compressed explosion.

The elemental beast bellowed in pain as its molten body cracked where the energy struck, fractures glowing like dying embers. The force launched it backward into a wall of obsidian, lava splashing around its frame.

But still... it rose.

"Still standing, huh?" Kai muttered, landing lightly on his feet.

Pyrothane’s form shimmered. Its molten chest began to reforge itself, glowing brighter—hotter. The creature was regenerating, and fast.

Kai’s mind raced. I can’t outlast it here... the longer I stay, the more this realm empowers it.

He glanced at his Monarch Token—it pulsed once. A signal. He didn’t need to kill it.

He needed to conquer the core.

"System, scan for Trial Core."

> Locating... Trial Core detected: 734 miles southeast.

Terrain: unstable lava flow, rock bridges.

Hostility: Extreme.

Kai exhaled. Then I’ll have to move fast.

Pyrothane roared again, charging with reckless fury. Kai spun on his heel and launched forward with Flowing Wind Steps, skimming over the jagged terrain.

Lava bursts erupted around him. One splash grazed his sleeve—instantly incinerated it.

His skin sizzled, but the his body was not that weak. Having completed the Nine Pillars, now it ’s showed why it was called a divine method. His skin healed rapidly, frost surging in his blood to counteract the burn. It wasn’t enough to stop the pain—but it was enough to endure it.

He leapt across a crumbling bridge, the beast behind him tearing through stone like paper. The Trial Core was in this direction, and as he moved , there were two hills ahead of him.

With a single jump left.

Kai gathered his chi, took a deep breath—then leapt.

As he was in the sky, the Pyrothane followed but halted at the cliff’s edge.

Just when Kai was feeling happy, he discovered that his jump was not enough.

With no other choice, he hastily used his frost power to form a bridge.

Successfully, with the help of the bridge, he made it to the other end of the cliff.

This was where Kai really got the reality check, as the bridge he made was melted in a matter of seconds.

I am not powerful enough to defeat a Tier 5 beast yet.

Realms of Opposition: Side Trials

---

[Kaius Elren – Trial of Elements]

Kaius opened his eyes to chaos.

Flames surged on his left, rivers roared on his right, windstorms clashed with rising stone pillars, and arcs of lightning shattered the darkened clouds above. The ground beneath him cracked and shifted, torn between the warring elements.

No force welcomed him. No power acknowledged him.

It was balance—through violence.

His Monarch Token pulsed faintly.

> "Choose your allegiance," a voice whispered in the air.

But Kaius stood still.

"I won’t choose."

The realm rumbled in response—as if offended.

This was the battlefield of all things he was not.

---

[Vaelis Nox – Sanctum of Solar Truth]

Vaelis blinked as the darkness around him turned to blinding gold. Towers of marble floated in a sea of endless light, and at the heart stood a sun-wrapped temple, each step radiant with divine purity.

He reached for his shadow—

Nothing.

He cast none.

His illusions shattered the moment they formed.

From above, glowing figures with spears and robes of fire hovered in silence, eyes burning like suns.

> "You have entered the realm of absolute truth. Every lie shall be punished. Every illusion, unmade."

He smirked—but unease twisted in his gut.

He had never been more exposed.

---

[Zarien Helios – Cavern of Still Time]

Zarien moved—

Or tried to.

It felt like wading through molasses. The world moved like a slow dream.

His spark, his lightning—useless here.

The cavern glowed with crystals frozen in mid-glitter. Droplets of water hung suspended in mid-air.

Even his thoughts dragged.

> "Here, speed is sin. Lightning is pride. Learn stillness... or perish slowly."

He gritted his teeth, the impatience burning beneath his skin.

This was a prison.

Worse—it was a mirror to the part of him he refused to see.

---

[Ilya Rainveil – The Iron Cage]

She gasped as the mist vanished from her vision.

Cold, steel walls surrounded her—tight, unforgiving. Every corridor identical. No open skies. No veils of fog to hide behind. Her foresight blinked—useless.

And something moved in the halls, just beyond the walls—things that hunted by instinct, not prediction.

> "Let’s see what you are when the future is sealed."

Ilya took a shaky step forward.

This was a test not of her eyes, but her heart.

---

[David – Whispersong Abyss]

David fell into silence.

Not darkness—void.

A formless ocean swirled around him, hissing with acidic whispers. His armor rusted in seconds. His skin steamed under his own forged strength.

He tried to raise a wall of steel—

It melted.

> "Metal breaks. Will bends. Adapt or dissolve."

He clenched his fists, bare now. Weak.

This was no forge.

This was a crucible.

---

[Rin Leor – Frozen Heart Monastery]

Snow whipped across his vision.

The wind howled not with chaos—but peace.

Rin Leor stood shirtless in a courtyard of ancient stone, his flames sputtering like dying candles. Every attempt to ignite more was snuffed out.

A figure in white robes approached, each step silent.

> "You burn without discipline. Here, fire means nothing. Only stillness survives."

He roared and struck the ground.

The snow fell... unbothered.

He had entered the realm of still flame—where rage was weakness.

---

[Sylis Drayne – Vault of Stone Silence]

Sylis hit the ground hard.

No wind cushioned his fall. No storm brewed.

The air was still. Oppressively so.

Massive stone walls surrounded him, pressing inward. The pressure of gravity was doubled—maybe more. He couldn’t feel the sky.

The silence was deafening.

> "Storms scream. But what do you do when there’s no wind left?"

He reached upward—but no air answered.

No thunder.

Just weight.

Just earth.

---

[Rin Kai – Infernal Crucible]

And far from the others, a different scene unfolded.

Rin Kai, wielder of frost.

Flames licked the sky. The ground itself pulsed red with heat. The very air tasted of ash and molten iron. The temperature was high enough to melt metal—let alone freeze anything.

The moment his frost aura ignited, it hissed—then evaporated.

He gasped, clutching his chest. The Eternal Frost Sovereign bloodline boiled under pressure.

As he finally reach the core.

> "You carry frost into the heart of fire? Foolish," said a voice made of smoke.

Mountains of magma towered in the distance. Rivers of lava carved through broken lands. And at the center, a spire of obsidian throbbed like a living heart.

This realm did not allow cold.

And yet, he was here.

> "Conquer the flame... or be consumed."

Kai narrowed his eyes.

"I won’t melt. Not here. Not ever."

And so began his trial—a frost sovereign in the Crucible of Flame.

To be continued...
