Chapter 41: Chapter 42: Watching me get beaten, don’t you feel a sense of revengeful delight?
Iris Harris was taken aback, looking at Brandan Hyde’s cold expression, momentarily bewildered.
"What’s wrong?"
"You did it on purpose, didn’t you?" Brandan said impatiently, "Watching me get hit, didn’t you feel a sense of revenge?"
"..." Iris widened her eyes slightly, not understanding why Brandan would say such a thing.
Brandan walked over, standing in front of Iris, looking down at her: "You could have called for a car yesterday, why did you walk back in the rain?"
Iris was stunned, feeling as if a corner of her heart had suddenly turned cold because of his words.
So...
Is that how he sees her?
Iris was in a daze for a moment, then softly asked, "Do you think this was my ploy? I intentionally walked back in the rain, giving myself a fever, so the aunt would scold you? Do you think... I’m taking revenge on you?"
"If not, why didn’t you call for a car?" Brandan asked, "Getting yourself into such a state, what are you trying to say?"
If it was to take revenge on him, this woman was being incredibly ruthless.
Brandan felt a bit irritable.
Iris sat on the bed in a daze for a moment, then slightly lowered her head, a faint smile suddenly appearing on her pale face.
"Is that how you see me, as someone who stops at nothing?" she asked softly, her smile somehow looking a bit sad, "No matter what I do, don’t you see anything good in me?" She paused for a long time before asking, "All these years, Brandan, can you honestly say I’ve ever harmed you even a little? How could I use myself to take revenge on you? Is this really how you see me?"
Tears fell from her eyes.
She was suddenly very sad, unable to stop crying.
It turns out just one sentence from him could pierce through all her defenses.
Leaving her heart bloodied.
Brandan was slightly stunned, not expecting Iris to cry simply because of a single sentence from him.
In his mind, Iris was always clinging to him like sticky candy. How could she possibly cry from just one sentence?
When had she ever been so weak?
"Then why didn’t you call?"
Brandan couldn’t understand.
He couldn’t understand why she didn’t make the call.
What reason could there be that would make her refuse to call someone to pick her up, leaving herself in such a sorry state?
Seeing her so sickly, he felt frustrated.
But Iris suddenly deflated, wiping away her tears with her hand, and softly said, "Think whatever you like."
"You...!"
"I’m tired." She turned her back, pulled the quilt up high, and curled her slender body into the blanket as if she were very cold, "I want to sleep."
If she told him her phone was out of battery, would he believe it?
Iris didn’t know.
It seemed he never really believed anything she said.
Even today, when she lied to get him out of trouble, in his heart, it felt like she had ulterior motives.
In his mind, she never had a good image.
She suddenly felt exhausted.
She didn’t even want to explain anymore.
After all, no matter what she did, he would never really look at her.
Brandan stood by the bed with a frown for a moment, realizing that Iris didn’t want to talk to him anymore, and unhappily walked away.
This was the first time Iris dared to show him such an attitude.
Brandan felt a little displeased, why was she mad? He was the one who got hit, wasn’t he? Couldn’t he just question her reasonably?
He bit his lip in frustration, his pretty face full of a gloomy aura.
