Chapter 72 Feng Ye’s Play
Chapter 72: Chapter 72 Feng Ye’s Play
His friend from m-country sent him a video showing Burial Mound piled high with bodies, some already decaying and emitting a stench, the crematoriums unable to keep up with the incinerations.
As he watched the scene in the video, a chill ran down his spine. If this plague spread to z-country, what then?
"I have a video for you to watch."
He sent her the video, and Yun Yue clicked it open. As she observed the condition of the deceased, her almond-shaped eyes narrowed, and a fierce aura emanated from her body.
She got up and walked to the balcony, opening the window to let the cool night breeze sober her considerable, "I know. Tell your friend to stay away from these people, it is contagious."
"Okay." Xiao Bai ended the call without asking further, but from her tone, he could tell that the boss seemed to know the origin of the epidemic.
After hanging up, Yun Yue stood on the balcony for a long time. The wind outside was strong, carrying a downpour of rain that pattered chaotically against the window. Some water, borne by the gusts, drifted in and splashed on her face, but she took no notice, just gazing out at the night scenery.
The flowers in the greenhouse below were wilting, while new buds eagerly awaited to bloom.
After a long while, she dialed a number, her voice cold and tinged with a trace of hostility.
"Do you remember those who died in the Underground Alliance?"
The moment Nan Jingchen heard "Underground Alliance," his entire demeanor became sharper. How could he possibly forget?
"Many have died in the slums of m-country, showing symptoms identical to those of the Underground Alliance victims. I suspect it’s the work of the Underground Alliance, or the virus has leaked."
They had initially intended to research elixirs for immortality but accidentally ended up creating this virus, which then leaked, causing the death of many in the laboratory.
Later, they experimented with infected individuals and found the virus to be extremely contagious and highly mutable, almost impossible to find a cure.
When she left, she had destroyed the laboratory, thinking the virus had dissipated with it. She hadn’t expected it to resurface so suddenly.
She had anticipated that the Underground Alliance wouldn’t give up on such a virus, but she didn’t expect them to have redeveloped it so soon.
Over the years, she hadn’t abandoned her research into the virus and believed that given enough time, she could find a cure.
"We should have known they wouldn’t give up," Nan Jingchen sneered. An organization that took pleasure in creating panic in the world would never abandon such an uncontrollable and highly contagious virus.
"Luckily, it hasn’t been found in z-country yet, the consequences would be severe if it were." Yun Yue exhaled slowly, her dim and inscrutable eyes shining faintly with guilt. She too bore some responsibility for this virus.
"Can you develop a cure?" Nan Jingchen asked, his eyes narrowing. He still had faith in her medical expertise.
"I should be able to, but I need the pathogen and a laboratory."
She currently lacked both the pathogen and a laboratory, and was too entangled to extricate herself— it wasn’t going to be easy.
Nan Jingchen: "..."
Where was he supposed to get you a pathogen from? Something that could infect on contact—who would risk their life to find one for you?
"Let’s hang up, I’m at a critical moment with an experiment." Nan Jingchen ended the call and stood still for half a minute before plunging back into his experiment.
Yun Yue threw her cell phone on the bed and went into the bathroom, turning on the cold water, letting it cascade down from the top of her head, helping her brain to clear.
Lin Xiang didn’t return all night, and in the morning, they were taken to school by their chauffeur.
Lin Xuanze was silent en route, his dark circles severe.
Yun Yue glanced at him but continued to play with her phone, unbothered. He was indeed too young; a minor incident like this was enough to keep him awake.
He was also distracted in class; when the teacher called on him, he had no idea where the lecture was and ended up being reprimanded.
Shen Xuan, having overheard a conversation the night before, approached and asked, "Xuan Ze, are you all right?"
She had to call his name several times before he responded.
"I’m fine, just didn’t rest well last night," he said distractedly, his eyes downcast, clearly unwilling to say more.
Shen Xuan didn’t press, remembering her mother’s advice to stay away from the Lin family as they were about to fall, and that she would soon go to Beijing. The thought brought a smile to her lips; this was finally some good news.
Even if Yun Yue was outstanding in her studies, once Shen Xuan entered that circle in Beijing, the other could only look up to her.
Although the monthly exam had passed, Class 7 still maintained a great study atmosphere without any signs of slackening.
Yun Yue had been sleeping all morning, and Gu Yue had accidentally bumped her with his elbow once. Her eyes immediately snapped open, revealing a face crawling with red blood vessels, and if it weren’t for his good self-control, she surely would have scared him to death.
Lunch break.
"Master Chen, this... I can’t do it," Feng Ye said, looking at Xiao Chen with a bit of fear, leaning back and eyeing his hands and feet. If he made a move, Feng Ye was ready to bolt.
"Waste," Xiao Chen muttered, sitting on the sofa with drooping eyelids, spitting out the words without care.
Feng Ye: "..."
That was more hurtful than a personal attack.
"Xiao Feng is already on the way," Xiao Chen said, playing with his phone with his head bowed and brows slightly furrowed, his dark eyes filled with anger.
"?!?!"
Was it really necessary to get so angry just because the data couldn’t be recovered?
Feng Ye’s heart was in turmoil, and tentatively, he spoke up, "I’ll try again."
He felt that if he didn’t recover the data, he was going to have a tough time in the future. Without waiting for Xiao Chen’s response, he sat back down at the computer desk.
Xiao Chen, facing a black screen again, had an ominously dark expression on his face.
[Are you kidding? You still play the jungle role?]
[Ten minutes into the game and 0-10-0, not even a delivery driver delivers this much; you might as well find a factory job.]
[With skills like these, you still play games? Stop dragging your teammates down.]
[Remember to report him when you go out.]
...
Snap!
Xiao Chen, with an angry face, smashed his phone to the ground, his eyes ablaze with fury.
What the hell!
"?!"
Startled by the noise behind him, Feng Ye shuddered in fear, turning to look back at the person.
He wondered how many seconds he had left to live.
The phone rolled a few times on the ground before coming to a stop by Yun Yue’s feet just as she entered the door.
She arched an eyebrow at the seething Xiao Chen and the frightened Feng Ye, and could not help but twitch the corner of her mouth.
What kind of scene were these two making?
She picked up the phone, looking at the black screen, and fought back the laughter tugging at her lips, her mouth curving upward, "A jungle player with a score of 0-11-0? Is this your doing?"
She looked at Xiao Chen, the corner of her mouth bearing a faint, teasing smile, her eyes bold and playful.
Xiao Chen: "..."
The phone really was durable; it didn’t even have a cracked screen.
"How could I possibly play such a game? It was Feng Ye who played it," he said nonchalantly, settling back on the sofa, playing with a ring in his hand, exuding an air of grace and nobility, the picture of elegance.
Feng Ye looked at him in shock, his eyes wide with innocence and confusion.
When did he start playing the game?
However, catching Xiao Chen’s glance, Feng Ye’s spirit trembled, and with a bitter smile, he said, "Indeed, I was the one playing, this phone sure has good quality, really drop-resistant!"
It didn’t even break after such a fall; should he send a banner of appreciation to the phone’s manufacturer?
