Chapter 71: Chapter 71 The Lin Group in Trouble

After the exam that evening, when school was over, Lin Xiang came to pick him up as usual.

Everyone at school essentially knew that Yun Yue was Lin Xuanze’s sister by now.

A lot of people thought Yun Yue was lucky; she had a wealthy stepmother who was so kind to her.

Knowing that Yun Yue’s grades weren’t good, Lin Xiang didn’t mention the exam at all after it was over.

Her phone rang.

"Hello?"

She answered the call while driving, using speakerphone.

"President Lin, the other party has suddenly reneged and won’t cooperate with our Lin Group. We were nearly done with production; if we can’t finalize this contract, the company will suffer severe losses."

The car braked sharply, causing Yun Yue and Lin Xuanze in the backseat to almost slam forward.

"Can’t you drive?!"

Angry curses and honking came from nearby.

Lin Xiang snapped back to attention and turned to look at the two of them, "Yueyue, Xuan Ze, are you two okay?"

"It’s okay, Mom..." Lin Xuanze spoke up, looking at Lin Xiang with some concern. The call sounded urgent; if it weren’t a big deal, his mother wouldn’t have lost her composure like that.

His mom had single-handedly supported the Lin Family, helping the Lin Group through many crises, and he had never seen her this flustered.

Later, when Yun Yue’s dad married into the Lin Family, he was only three years old. Yun Zhonghai was truly kind to him and his mom, and since he was so young at the time, he started calling him Dad.

Gradually, he began to help his mom with the family business, and his mom started to have more free time, spending more of it with him.

Yun Yue settled back into her seat, her eyes unusually calm as she sat in the back without saying a word.

"It’s a small issue, not as serious as you two are imagining. Just focus on your studies for now, and you can take over the company’s affairs after you graduate," Lin Xiang brushed off the subject quickly and started driving the car again.

But this time, the car drove very slowly, and she wasn’t babbling non-stop as usual. The car was very quiet.

"You go inside first; I need to handle some matters at the company," Lin Xiang dropped them off at the front door of the house, rolled down the window, and smiled at them, "Don’t worry, it’s really not a big deal, get some rest early."

After saying that, she drove away again.

Lin Xuanze stood still, watching the car disappear from view, pursing his lips, his expression complex, "I’ve never seen Mom like this before, am I really so useless?"

He was already 17 years old, and yet he was no help at all.

"Aunt Xiang told you to study hard, so you can take over after you graduate." Yun Yue wasn’t good at comforting others; she shoved her hands into her pockets and walked into the villa with a rebellious air.

Lin Xuanze adjusted his expression and entered the Lin Family home.

Liu Lanfang was tidying up things and smiled when she saw them, "You’re back, where’s Aunt Xiang?"

She had been living comfortably at the Lin Family’s home lately, looking much more spirited. After dinner every night, she would go to Yunhua District to dance in the square and had met quite a few people her age. At least she wasn’t bored here.

"Mom’s got some things to deal with at the company," Yun Yue said as she switched shoes and headed upstairs with her backpack.

Liu Lanfang didn’t think much of it, smiling at Lin Xuanze, "Xiao Ze, your grandma made some soup for you, do you want some? After you finish, take a bowl up to Yueyue."

Lin Xuanze wasn’t very hungry, but seeing her expectant look, he nodded slightly and drank under her watchful eye.

"How is it, does it taste good?"

Liu Lanfang looked at him, her aged eyes twinkling with a smile.

"It’s good, I’ll take it up to her." Lin Xuanze said with a smile. Usually, he would have finished the soup, but today he really had no appetite.

"Go ahead," Liu Lanfang said with a smile, having been worried that the two of them wouldn’t get along, but now it seemed that they were doing just fine.

Lin Xuanze knocked on Yun Yue’s door. She had taken off her coat and was wearing a loose T-shirt, which made her look even smaller and thinner.

"This is soup Grandma made; she asked me to bring it up for you."

Lin Xuanze’s face was a bit awkward. Serving others was entirely new to him; you were really honored.

Yun Yue took it, drank it all in one go, and then thrust the bowl back into his hands, "Could you take this back down for me? Thanks."

Bang!

The door closed.

Lin Xuanze stared at the bowl in his hands, dumbfounded, his brain not reacting.

Looking at the firmly shut door, he darkened his face and took the bowl back to the kitchen.

She was truly a dog.

Lin Xiang rushed to the Lin Group in a great hurry; the top executives were in total chaos.

"What did the other party say?" Lin Xiang, in her high heels, instantly transformed from a graceful lady to a powerful career woman.

"They said another manufacturer offered them a price one-third lower than ours."

"It’s my fault; I trusted them too much. I didn’t expect them to turn their backs on us after so many years of cooperation," Lin Xiang said coldly, her eyes flashing with chilly light. "Do you know who’s supplying them?"

Her secretary, head bowed, said, "It’s the Dong Group."

"Of course, it would be them." Lin Xiang sneered; for many years, they had been opposing the Lin Group, and now they had managed to snatch such a big order. Their approach was quite unseemly.

"Steel materials are not like others; our prices are definitely the best in terms of cost-effectiveness. The Dong Group has lowered their prices by one-third for this order to compete with us. They are either taking a loss and subsidizing it themselves or they are cutting corners on the materials. And this order is from Beijing."

"You mean..." The secretary looked at her, with her inscrutable expression, sitting in the CEO’s chair. "Figure out how much we will lose; cover it with my personal account for now."

The steel produced was used for making weapons, and the Beijing Weapons Association had always placed large orders for steel with them. Logically, after so many years of cooperation, there shouldn’t be a fallout, unless something had happened at the Weapon Association.

Trouble at the Weapon Association was not something a little commoner like her could know about—only those in the Beijing circles would be aware.

Just thinking of the Dong Group, Lin Xiang’s eyes flashed with a piercing chill; this feud was only getting deeper.

She absolutely wouldn’t let the Lin Group be taken down by the Dong Group.

The secretary received a call, looking concerned, turned to Lin Xiang, "President Lin, the shareholders have caught wind of this and are already in the conference room."

"Understood, those old foxes." Lin Xiang booted up her computer, cool and collected, "Tell them the shareholders’ meeting will convene in ten minutes, and print this document for me; it’s needed for the meeting."

"Yes, President Yun has already gone to negotiate with them. It’s uncertain if there’s still room to maneuver."

Lin Xiang’s fingers paused in their typing. If the Dong Group and the other side joined forces against them, any concessions they made would be useless.

"Let him try first," Lin Xiang felt somewhat drained. If they truly couldn’t secure this deal, then the Lin Group would face a long period of financial crisis. Luckily, she had some money in her personal account to keep them afloat for a while.

...

After closing the door, Yun Yue made a phone call.

"Xiao Bai, help me find out what’s happened with the Lin Group, the quicker the better," Yun Yue said, her long legs propped up on the desk, her expression a mix of rascal and swagger.

"Okay, there’s been an epidemic outbreak in the slums; a lot of people have died already. The medical team from M country is helpless, and the epidemic is spreading fast, it’s not only in M country but other countries are reporting the same symptoms too. So far, it seems Z country hasn’t been affected yet."
