Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Knowing, Master Chen’s Anger
The people at the police station looked at each other, feeling like something significant was about to happen.
The policeman from earlier collapsed into his chair, panic beginning to set in.
Fu Pan sat in the car, staring at his phone, his gaze resting on Xiao Chen’s number, torn over whether to inform him or not.
"Captain Fu, are you sure this is the number? Why can’t I find any information?" Ah Chen furrowed his brow; he had checked thrice and found that the number existed, but he couldn’t retrieve any information or perform a satellite location trace on it.
"Let me see." Fu Pan took his phone and double-checked, finding nothing wrong, yet he felt puzzled.
This only happened with a select few special individuals—for instance, Master Chen’s cell number. If they wanted to obtain information or trace his location, it was impossible. But Miss Yun... Could it be a number registered by Master Chen for her?
"Stop searching, I’ll ask her." Just as Fu Pan was about to call Yun Yue, she sent him a text message.
"Go to National Highway L215."
At the same time, he dialed Xiao Chen’s number.
Xiao Chen was currently attending a dinner party, seated next to Feng Ye, surrounded by several significant figures from Beijing.
As the group was conversing, Xiao Chen’s phone rang, displaying Fu Pan’s caller ID.
Fu Pan usually didn’t call him unless it was about the kid, as he wasn’t in Lan City otherwise.
Guessing somewhat, Xiao Chen’s eyes darkened, and without stepping outside, he pressed the answer button. As he put the phone to his ear, his originally calm face instantly turned cold.
The pendant lights in the private room were exceedingly bright, and though the air conditioning was on, making it feel like April or May, the room’s temperature was chilling.
His deep-set features wore an icy expression. As Feng Ye was whispering to someone beside him, sensing something off in the atmosphere of the dinner, he paused, turning toward his neighbor.
"Master Chen?" he asked softly.
"The kid’s in trouble," Xiao Chen stood up, his eyes pitch black, his face frosty.
"Sorry, there’s an emergency." He nodded politely to the others at the party, took his phone, and walked out, his tone and actions unusually frantic, "Is she alright?"
The others at the dinner exchanged glances, with questioning looks directed toward Feng Ye.
"I’m sorry! Master Chen really has an emergency," Feng Ye hastily apologized and followed quickly, wondering to himself. Isn’t the kid in Lan City? What could have possibly gone wrong?
"What’s going on? It’s the first time I’ve seen Young Master Xiao leave a dinner like this in such a hurry."
"Who knows?"
Xiao Chen rarely appeared in public; they didn’t know much about him. He usually attended such dinners but barely spoke; it was always Mr. Feng doing the talking.
There were numerous rumors about him, but when the people of Beijing discussed him, they did so with utmost respect. Although young, he was completely poised even in front of the older bigwigs.
It was their first time seeing him so visibly agitated...
**
"Boss, these two have woken up." Xiao Bai leaned lazily against the car, disheveled but still spirited.
He just stood there, smiling faintly as he watched the two gradually come to.
Yun Yue sat inside their car, her eyes closed, not speaking a word.
"Hiss!"
As the two regained consciousness, their necks ached terribly; they reached to touch them but discovered a gouged hole in their skin, the blood already dried.
Xiao Bai, dangling casually in place, glanced distractedly down, his head slightly tilted, "Tch! Which one of you trash sent you, was it to kill me or her?"
The pair stiffened, raising their heads to glance at him before immediately becoming wary, fearfully observing them both.
She had just leapt from the car without hesitation, her shooting accurate, her movements agile, her kicks fierce—she was no ordinary high school student!
Even trained assassins weren’t as formidable as her.
Xiao Bai noted their expressions, looking down at them from above, "Seems like it was to kill her then. Speak, who sent you?"
Seeing that they were about to use the "Golden Net" interrogation techniques on them, who’d have thought that the sounds of police sirens would suddenly come from afar, and were getting closer?
Both men visibly panicked, seemingly not expecting that anyone would dare call the police, and they took off running.
"Trying to run?" Xiao Bai, irked by the frustration inside him, thought they’d brought this on themselves and shouldn’t blame him for picking on the weak!
He kicked a stone underfoot, and both men immediately fell to their knees. He strode forward and kicked each man once.
"Fifty million! Compensate me fifty million!"
Yun Yue: "..."
Unsatisfied with just a kick, he grabbed both their arms and pressed them against the gun’s muzzle.
The men’s screams of agony pierced the quiet sea, awakening Yun Yue as well.
"Make them shut up!" She narrowed her dangerous eyes at him, annoyed; if you’re going to teach someone a lesson, at least don’t disturb her.
As soon as she spoke, the two men collapsed onto the ground.
Xiao Bai, disgusted, wiped the blood off his hands onto their bodies and kicked each again before walking away, feeling more at ease. Right at that moment, four SWAT vehicles stopped in front of them.
The men who got out were all in full tactical gear.
The leader, presumably their captain, hurried over with an urgent voice, "Miss Yun, are you alright?"
"?" Does the boss actually know someone from the police department?
Wasn’t this the Fu Pan that his brothers had talked about?
She was calm though!
Meanwhile, he started panicking now, being this close to police for the first time, their righteous aura incredibly intimidating.
He didn’t think he had done anything guilty, but he felt inexplicably nervous.
Fu Pan’s gaze landed on her injuries, and though they would be minor on him,
they were significant on Yun Yue, the apple of Master Chen’s eye, making it feel like a heavy stone had been dropped in his heart.
Both her arms had suffered various degrees of abrasions, and they were severe, with some shockingly treated wounds that might leave scars.
Fortunately, he had already notified Master Chen on their way here, or he wouldn’t have known how to explain himself.
"It’s nothing."
Her nonchalant "It’s nothing" surprised Fu Pan; such severe injuries would have had any other girl crying out in pain, yet there she was, her eyelids drooping, looking as if she felt no pain at all.
"I’ll take you to the hospital first, Master Chen is already on his way," he said, as he cleared a police car and assigned his men to handle the scene.
"Take these two men in and make sure they are closely guarded. Make sure they don’t die."
"Yes, Captain Fu."
The group exchanged glances. Was this Captain Fu really abandoning his duties just to take a girl to the hospital?
Who was this girl?
And for just two criminals, Captain Fu had deployed four SWAT vehicles, when the police department only had five in total...
They speculated about Yun Yue’s identity as they watched them leave, then started to clear the scene.
The route they had just taken was full of skid marks. Below the cliff, a car was smashed to smithereens, yet the car’s emblem was still visible, seemingly worth fifty million.
The two men’s injuries were roughly the same, apart from the bruises all over their bodies, the most severe were the gunshot wounds on their arms.
Their expressions turned serious — this wasn’t just an ordinary assault; there were even guns involved.
