Chapter 94: Chapter 89 I Don’t Step on the Brakes
The driving lesson location wasn’t inside a driving school but required travel to a specific place.
The instructor didn’t even know the destination; he was simply told to wait at home, and at noon the next day, a car would come to pick him up.
For an instructor, it was a first to experience being chauffeured in a special car.
The next day at noon, a black sedan indeed pulled up at his front door.
Inside were three men in black, one driving and the other two escorting him on the back seat, constantly observing the surroundings as if guarding against something.
It wouldn’t have been unusual, but the instructor accidentally noticed that these men in black were all armed!
The men in black hurriedly assured they were armed out of necessity to protect an important figure and asked the instructor not to be afraid, as they weren’t dangerous people.
However, being armed in Dragon Country already suggested these men were no small fry. And if they were protecting someone, that person must be even more remarkable.
The instructor thought, if he had to teach such a VIP how to drive and ended up displeasing him, could he bear the consequences?
He couldn’t help but feel regret.
Soon, the car arrived at the destination, and the instructor was stunned upon seeing the driving lesson site.
"Is this... an airport?"
The instructor was taken aback. This wasn’t any ordinary airport but a well-known local commercial private airport.
The city’s high-profile figures all parked their private planes here and engaged in status competitions. Even the instructor had heard about it.
Indeed, such a vast space at the airport was quite suitable for driving lessons, with little worry about hitting anything.
However, using such a place for driving lessons wasn’t something the average influential person could manage, and wouldn’t the others who used private planes have objections?
Suddenly, the instructor heard a commotion; turning his head, indeed, he saw a group of important people arguing with the staff at the entrance.
They all appeared to be big shots. The instructor had seen some of them in newspapers, like CEOs of international corporations and other high-status figures—they were all there!
Apparently, they were unhappy that someone had monopolized the usually shared airport and that their planes had been redirected elsewhere.
This wasn’t about money; it was about pride, and so they were quite agitated.
Yet the staff guarding the airport entrance gave them no face at all, ignoring them completely.
They were all furious and looked indignant, but here, no one dared disrespect them!
Then, one of the staff said something in a hushed tone, seemingly mentioning a higher authority and investigations, which caused the faces of the big shots to change, and without another word, they hurriedly—or rather, somewhat sheepishly—left.
"What... ah?"
The instructor was dumbstruck. Even these major figures were sent away, yet he could enter. Who on earth was the person inside?
A sudden thought struck the instructor, recalling a character from a movie his children had shown him who said, "I don’t eat beef."
He wondered if he was about to meet someone of that caliber. What if the person said, "I don’t press the brakes," and then simply got rid of him?
The instructor instantly regretted his involvement even more, echoing the sentiment that not all money is good to earn.
But since he was already there, he couldn’t just turn around and leave. Trying to reassure himself that it wasn’t that kind of era anymore and such things wouldn’t happen, he entered the airport with trepidation.
"Instructor, please take this." A staff member handed him something.
"What is this?" The instructor took it and saw, "A car key?"
"Yes," the individual explained. "We’ve specifically equipped a modified vehicle for instruction here. This model features an advanced structural design and high-strength materials for excellent impact resistance. Its body is capable of dispersing and absorbing energy efficiently to lessen the force of collisions, and it has been thoroughly engineered and simulated to ensure structural integrity under various crash scenarios.
Additionally, the car is fitted with advanced safety systems, including multiple airbags, active braking assistance, and vehicle stability control, to provide comprehensive protection and safety.
It also comes with a specially adjusted Artificial Intelligence that reacts immediately in dangerous situations, activating full defensive mode, so please rest assured."
"Rest assured?" The instructor grew more uneasy with each word. "Rest assured about what?"
The staff member just smiled and didn’t say much else.
"..." Unsure what more to ask, the instructor noticed an electronic panel on the car key, which made him raise an eyebrow.
"What’s this?" he asked.
"Oh, that’s for controlling the car’s speed," the staff member explained. "After discussing it above, considering the practical circumstances, it seemed unrealistic to teach the gentleman how to shift gears, but an automatic without speed limits is too risky. Therefore, we installed a system to control the speed, which is managed by the key in your hand."
"Control the speed?" asked the instructor. "Doesn’t my seat have a brake?"
"It does, but more safety measures are always better."
"I see."
"We’re here, the gentleman you’ll be teaching to drive is over there."
"...!"
The instructor scarcely dared to breathe, looking in the direction pointed out by the staff member. But then, he felt puzzled.
Because instead of a person, the instructor only saw a car embedded deep into the wall.
"... Huh?"
The instructor thought he had seen everything in his career, but this was a first.
Soon, with the ready equipment, the car was extricated, and the instructor finally met the individual sitting inside.
"You’re my instructor, right? Hello, my name is Xiao Yi," Xiao Yi introduced himself.
"Hello..."
The instructor was taken aback, not expecting such a polite young man, who also seemed rather... gentle.
Of course, this would have been the instructor’s thought had Xiao Yi not driven the car into the wall. That possibility was now out of the question.
The instructor couldn’t help feeling deceived by first impressions.
Xiao Yi continued, "Instructor, I took the car out for a small spin before you arrived. It is indeed a bit complicated, so I’ll be counting on you to teach me more later."
"A... a small spin?"
The instructor’s lips twitched uncontrollably. Could a ’small spin’ end with crashing into a wall?
Thinking that he would soon be sitting next to him, the instructor started wondering if his insurance had expired yet.
