Kingston Howard had just greeted the President and was preparing for a meeting, spinning like a top from early morning, stealing a rare moment of leisure to brew a cup of coffee for a boost of energy.

This floor was entirely occupied by the Planning Department, where everyone was buzzing about the President’s visit earlier that morning; the break room was practically deserted.

Just as he relaxed and prepared to grab his coffee, he saw a petite woman in a white blouse and skirt sitting quietly in the corner, reading a book.

In front of her was a freshly brewed cup of coffee, the steam wafting over her face, inexplicably evoking images of idyllic landscape paintings and the tranquility of ‘an era of peace.’

It wasn’t that he hadn’t seen beautiful women before; in fact, with his age and income, he was never short of pretty women swirling around him. The young lady in front of him was indeed attractive, but not exceptionally so. Yet, for some reason, at that moment, his heartstrings felt as though they were plucked, stirring an indescribable sentiment within him.
