Chapter 91: New experience
As Forsyx walked deeper, he found multiple small shops ranging from weapons, potions, artifacts, and other items.
It was like a mini version of the city market, just that the stuff sold here had a spooky origin, but the price was much cheaper.
Also, some of the bigger shops even sold illegal items like extremely potent poison and so on.
Not caring about any of this, he continued to move forward and soon reached the end of the market.
There, he saw a massive, wide building.
There was nothing outside the building that showed what it was for, but right before his eyes, he saw dozens of people walking in and out of it.
It hit him that this must be the infamous Prohibited Hall, the darker version of the Adventurer Hall.
He glanced around for a moment and then walked toward the hall.
At the gate, he noticed two big guards standing on either side of the door. They just glanced at him for a moment and then shifted their focus to others.
As he walked into the building, he found himself in a big room with just a reception hall on the other side.
Behind the desk sat two women in purple one-piece dresses. There were a few gates next to the reception table, each leading to a different corridor.
He noticed that most people who accompanied him had some silver tokens, which enabled them to pass the receptionists without any trouble.
While a few, like him, with no token, had to stand in a small queue.
It didn’t take more than two minutes before it was already his turn.
As he walked up to the woman on the left, she smiled at him and asked, "Good to see you, dear customer. Care to tell me, is this your first time here?"
Forsyx coughed and rubbed his neck, replying in a snarly, thin, childish voice, "Yes."
Even though Goblins had developed vocal cords, theirs were more suited for high-pitched whistles.
For this reason, even though he tried to speak normally, only a kid-like tone came out of his mouth.
Even the lady at the reception stared at him for a moment, then focused on the paper note in her hand and asked, "Dear customer, can you tell me the purpose of your visit? Are you here to issue a quest or take on a quest?"
Forsyx gave a quick, short answer: "Do quest."
She nodded and asked, "Sir, your name?"
Forsyx didn’t hesitate and said, "Biggy. I’m Biggy."
She raised an eyebrow but wrote his name on a thick brown paper.
She handed it to him and pointed to the rightmost path. "Sir, since it’s your first visit, you’ll need to choose an agent for yourself first. Once you do that, your agent will guide you."
With that, she looked at the person behind him and said, "Next."
Forsyx moved to the side and adjusted his mask.
From what he knew, it appeared that this Prohibited Hall followed the agent representation system.
He looked at the cardboard-like paper in his hand and walked toward the rightmost path.
This was a first-time experience for him, though he wasn’t alone.
4–5 other people were walking ahead of him. A couple of them might be players, but it was hard to tell.
All of them entered a short corridor.
Barely 10 meters ahead, they saw a large gate that led into a big hall.
As soon as they entered the hall, a bunch of men and women in purple outfits rushed toward them.
The big guy got surrounded by dozens of women, all trying to poach him as their client.
It was the same for the others, except for this sick-looking guy and him.
Barely any of the agents looked at them, let alone walked up to them.
He watched those women desperately trying to recruit the stronger-looking ones.
At that moment, he heard two voices—one from behind and the other from his right.
Startled, he cursed the mask and hood in his mind. It was really hard to look around in this outfit.
It was especially worse for him, as he had gotten used to the nearly 270-degree vision of a bird.
Not wasting any time, he turned and saw two agents next to him.
To his right was a teenage boy in baggy clothes, and just ahead was an extremely skinny woman.
Both agents looked at him and then at each other. It looked like they were warning one another, but neither backed down.
The woman spoke first. "Nice to meet you, dear sir. I’m Agent 823. Please choose me; I promise I’ll provide the best service."
The boy chimed in. "No, good sir. I might look young, but I’m far more experienced than her. I promise I’ll get you the best possible tasks."
She shot him a glare and said, "Agent 952, you should not badmouth your senior like that. And don’t lie to our dear customer."
The boy stared back without backing down.
Forsyx looked around and saw something similar happening next to the sick-looking guy, though only four agents were around him, and each one seemed a bit odd.
He also noticed many other agents at the back who didn’t even bother to move, especially those with extreme beauty. It seemed those agents weren’t interested in five noobs at all.
Not wanting to be dragged into this for too long, he asked, "Is there someplace we can talk in private? First, I want to know what agents even do here."
Both agents looked at each other.
The woman nodded. "Sir, we have private rooms. Let me take you there."
The boy waved. "Sir, yes—let me take you to the quest chamber."
The two of them exchanged glares and then started leading him to the other end of the hall.
There, at the corner, he saw another path that led to a long corridor with multiple doors on both sides.
They passed a dozen closed rooms before Forsyx saw an open door.
Both agents pointed to the open room.
"There, sir."
"We’ve reached the quest room, sir."
Forsyx followed them into the room and saw a small black chamber with only a small table and two chairs.
This place looked more like an interrogation room than anything else.
As he walked in, the woman pointed to the chair, while the boy shut the door.
The moment the boy closed it, Forsyx noticed the outside noise suddenly vanished.
As Forsyx sat in the chair, the boy said, "Sir, this is a special quest room. It traps all voices made inside and blocks outside noise."
’So, it’s a noise-cancellation room. They must’ve used some kind of mana skill to achieve this,’ Forsyx thought to himself.
Forsyx asked, "Can you tell me what the purpose of agents is?"
The boy said. "Sir, because of the special kind of tasks available in the Prohibited Hall, we can’t use notice boards like the ones you saw in the Adventurer Hall."
The woman pointed to the paper card in Forsyx’s hand. "Sir, in the Prohibited Hall, the most important thing is the identity token."
Forsyx pointed to the paper. "This thing?"
The boy nodded. "Yes, sir. What you have now is a temporary card. It gives you access to view five beginner-level quests. You have to complete at least one of those tasks—only then will you receive a permanent identity token."
Forsyx raised an eyebrow. So that was the trial task for the Prohibited Hall.
He asked, "Oh, okay. So, how do I access my five quests?"
The woman pointed to herself. "Sir, that’s where we agents come in. You give your name token to your agent, and in return, we give you our badge."
She pointed to the silver token on her chest with 823 written on it.
That’s when it hit him—those guys earlier must’ve shown those silver tokens to enter the other path.
The boy added, "Sir, in the Prohibited Zone, every customer must pick one agent. As your agent, you explain what kind of task you want, and based on that, we will look through the quest archive to find you the best suitable quest. "
The woman nodded. "Yes, sir. That’s why having an experienced agent is a must. My years of experience would help you in the long run."
The boy interrupted and bowed. "No, sir. Task selection has nothing to do with experience—it’s all about skill. Just give me a chance to prove myself."
Forsyx touched his mask.
It looked like he had no choice but to rely on an agent. He looked at both of them and said, "How about this? I’ll tell you what kind of quest I want. You can both ask me any questions, and in the end, each of you will pick two quests for me. I’ll choose the one who gives me the best possible quest based on my needs."
Both agents looked at each other and shouted in unison, "Sure, sir!"
And just like that, Forsyx’s first experience in selecting an illegal quest began.
One filled with a barrage of questions, some of which even forced him to think about what kind of quest would suit him.
It made him realize that there was this whole new nuance he had to consider while taking on illegal quests.
Something he never had to worry about while doing any of the legal ones.
That one session opened his eyes to an entirely new world.
