Chapter 72: Moving out of the party
Not caring about anyone, Veyne calmly wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
His father couldn’t control himself and shouted, "Veyne, what is this behavior? How could you attack someone? Apologize to Cathrine and her family right now!"
Veyne just looked at him and smirked. He didn’t need to say a single word to flare his father’s anger.
His father shouted again, "Are you not going to follow my order?"
He asked in a blunt tone, "Oh, I should apologize to them? Then what’s next? Should I also grovel before everyone for forgiveness?"
His father pointed his finger at him while shaking. "You... you..."
His mother jumped in between, trying to defuse the situation. "Veyni, don’t you dare talk to your father in that tone? Apologize to him this instant."
She hadn’t even finished speaking when his big aunt Corini added her usual snide remark, "Kids these days don’t even respect their parents."
Veyne looked directly at her and said, "A woman who couldn’t stay loyal to her husband should not speak about respect, you know."
Silence!
Everyone at the table stared at Veyne with their mouths wide open.
Aunt Corini looked at him with red eyes. "How dare you drag my personal life into this? Who gave you—"
Veyne cut her off. "If you can’t handle your own mess, then don’t lecture me about my life decisions."
She stomped her foot and looked at his father. "Brother, did you call me here just to disrespect me like this?"
Before, others could react and create another fuss,
Veyne walked toward Cathrine and said in a loud tone, "Let me tell you once again, I’m breaking up with you. You’re nothing more than a stranger to me."
This time, Cathrine didn’t cry, but stared back at him and shouted, "Veyne Draven, I will remember these words. Mark my words—there will come a time when you’ll regret this decision for the rest of your life."
Veyne smiled at her. "Well, my ex-lover, I will welcome that day with open arms. But be careful, or you might destroy your own life before I do."
Her dad was about to say something, but she turned around and shouted, "No need to say anything, Dad. I’m not some pitiful damsel who needs others’ sympathy. I’ve heard everything I need to know."
At that, his brother Kron jumped in. "Big bro, what’s the matter with you? How could you disrespect Uncle and Aunt?"
He bowed to Cathrine’s parents. "Uncle, Aunt, I’m very sorry for my brother’s behavior."
None of them bothered with him.
Her father and brothers just stared at Veyne one last time before following Cathrine.
Kavya rushed to the house to show them out, apologizing on his behalf.
Big Aunt Corini also stomped her foot and shouted at her teen kid, "Rees, get up, we’re also leaving!"
At that, his big uncle said, "Corini, calm down. The kid was just angry. No need to create more drama."
Aunt Corini shouted at him, "Big brother, am I creating the drama? Didn’t you hear how that kid just disrespected me? Don’t tell me you all think the same about me!"
The big uncle shook his head. "No, it’s not like that."
At that, both the fourth and fifth uncles stood up. "Big brother, you can’t defend the kid’s behavior. How could he disrespect Corini like that?"
"Yeah, how could Second Brother disrespect Big Sister like this?"
Before this side drama could escalate, Veyne’s father screamed at him, "You, get out of my house right now!"
Even his mother, sounding desperate, said from the side, "Dear, control your anger. Veyne, don’t you know your father has high blood pressure? Just apologize to him!"
Veyne started laughing aloud. "Hahaha! Isn’t it funny, Mom? How are both of you screaming now? But where was all this anger when that guy punched me?"
He turned back and looked at his uncles and aunts. "It’s funny how fast things change when people learn that you’re no longer useful to them."
Third Uncle, who had been quiet so far, said, "Veyne, don’t take it the wrong way, kid."
Veyne just shook his head and looked directly into his father’s eyes. "I’ve already seen what this so-called family amounts to. Don’t worry, I won’t trouble you people anymore."
He turned to Roonie. "Come on, man, let’s go."
Roonie nodded and followed him, holding a half-empty beer bottle in his hand.
Some people tried to say things, but Veyne didn’t care about any of it as he walked through the house.
Kavya, who had just returned, looked at him in confusion. "Brother, what happened? Why are you here?"
He just looked at her and said in a low tone, "Save the act for someone else, Kavya."
She tilted her head. "Brother, what are you talking about? I swear I didn’t know anything about you and Cathrine before this."
Veyne walked away while speaking loud enough for her to hear, "You’re going to be an adult soon, so I don’t care what you do with your life. But if you or Sera dare to drag me into your mess, just one message will be enough to expose you. Don’t test my patience."
He walked out, leaving Kavya standing there, frozen with a pale face.
It took her a couple of minutes to come back to her senses.
She rushed to the door to talk to her brother, only to see a sleek black car pulling out of the main gate.
The moment she saw Veyne inside, her mouth dropped open, and she screamed, "Oh my god!"
Unknowingly, she screamed so loud that others at the party rushed toward the house.
But inside her mind, there was just a single question. ’Since when did he have a car like that?’
Kron and Aaron were the first to run up to her. "What happened?"
Kavya pointed to the empty road and stuttered, "Zey... bro... I just saw Brother in a Zenith car."
Aaron raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you didn’t just imagine it?"
Even Kron nodded. "Yeah. How could Brother have a Zenith?"
Kavya looked at them in confusion, then waved her hand like something had clicked. "Wait, that boy next to Brother... yeah, I saw him in the car too. It must be his."
Aaron shook his head. "Nah, I talked to that guy a lot. He didn’t act like any rich guy."
Kron just stared at her. "Did you sneak a drink?"
Kavya frantically shook her head. "No! I don’t drink. I’m telling the truth!"
At that moment, her mother’s voice called out, "What happened?"
Kron closed the door and said, "Nothing, just Kavya having a daydream."
Kavya was about to protest, but then she saw Sera, and her brother’s warning replayed in her head.
She stopped caring about the car and just nodded along, defusing the situation while pulling Sera aside for a talk.
Away from all this mess, both Veyne and Roonie were enjoying the drink they had just bought, while the car automatically drove them back to college.
