Chapter 51: Last bit of struggle
Chapter 51: Last bit of struggle
After the initial few minutes, a lot of these minor attacks here and there started to stack against that nightmare wolf.
Boosky sensed the end of the monster, but what he failed to realize was that the deaths of those normal canines had skyrocketed.
Only when a few players jumped in to attack the black wolf did Boosky snap out of his trance.
He looked around in confusion, unable to understand how players had reached there, but that was when he noticed the thousands of canines had thinned down to just a couple of hundred.
But it didn’t matter, as the black wolf was left with just a sliver of health.
The struggle to bring it down continued, and he finally saw the black wolf’s health bar drop to a hair’s breadth, a single digit.
For the first time, he saw the black wolf standing still, looking around. Everyone, from players to monsters, paused that moment.
Even with all his fear, Boosky still stared into the wolf’s eyes, hoping to see pain.
The same pain it had inflicted on his friends.
He wanted to see it whimper like they had, but all he got was that cold, mocking smirk.
Even though this was his first experience with a wolf, those mocking, thin eyes. Those dark golden eyes held nothing but mockery.
It felt like, even at the very end, the wolf was still mocking them all.
That wide grin, like it was looking down on the entire world. Just staring at that blood-filled smile evoked fear in him.
At that moment, Boosky felt like prey, desperately wishing someone would end this nightmare.
The next moment, everyone around him snapped out of their thoughts.
Each of them—from small monsters to players, from bitten foxes to those powerful, experienced fighters—rushed to land the final blow.
He saw a claw closing in from the back and a sword just inches from its chest.
Boosky stood up, not wanting to miss the end, but then he froze.
Before any of those attacks could reach the black beast, it once again disappeared.
Boosky looked around in panic. Had it not given up yet? From his height, he scanned the entire battlefield, looking for that black flash—but saw nothing.
No matter how much he looked, this time, no black wolf jumped out.
He scanned every small canine—even the other dark wolves among them—but none of them had that deep black coat.
Then he saw a couple of players at the front screaming in frustration.
It was like they had just missed an enormous opportunity.
’Did that nightmare really survive?’
He didn’t get much time to think, as another chaos erupted.
With the common enemy gone, a new battle erupted between the players and the canines.
He noticed that all the canines’ eyes had returned to normal. It was like they had come back to their senses.
Unlike the madness he saw before, now all the canines started coordinating with the big foxes.
The only good thing was that all of them began retreating into the forest.
A couple of players tried to stop them, only to die the next second.
Most of the elites also chose not to fight. He saw them backing down.
Boosky dropped back onto the branch.
This experience left him mentally shaken and tired.
Whenever he tried to close his eyes, all he saw was the image of that nightmare—its golden eyes staring directly into his soul.
Then there were those screams, filled with pain. The desperate cries for help from his friends. They disturbed him to the point that he didn’t even dare to close his eyes.
When he saw others walking away from there, he rushed down. In his hurry, he even fell, but it didn’t matter. All he wanted was to reach the village and log out of this hell as soon as possible.
Boosky started to follow a bunch of players back to the village, all while desperately clenching the beginner’s sword in his hand.
But he was not the only one.
In Apex Ascension, every new player went through a journey.
A journey that made them addicted to the fighting, addicted to the fresh world and the variety of things this new world had to offer.
So much so that they were ready to take on the pain. But this special event led to an interruption.
Circumstances forced the new players to mature faster. This led many to become traumatized, but there were also those reckless ones.
The ones who, despite all the pain, still wanted to chase their dream.
The dream to conquer this new world and make a name for themselves.
The dream of becoming a pro Apex Ascension player.
...
A few minutes earlier.
Forsyx just stared at the Blackwater Village’s main gate in front of him. He was already back in his human form, standing within the village.
Ding!
[You have successfully survived your Monster Cycle! ]
[The ancient creatures have gone back into a one-month deep slumber.
(No one will be able to sense them during their slumber.)]
The moment Forsyx saw that message, he fell flat on the ground with no care.
Huff... huff...
He placed a hand on his chest, taking deep breaths, trying to calm himself.
The constant jumping and dodging had pushed him to the edge.
Just five more minutes, and he would have lost his character.
The only reason he managed to survive was because of the extra trait, along with his familiarity with the canine form.
With the way those monsters were jumping on him, one thing became clear to him that something big had shifted in his class.
He was just staring at the sky when another notification popped up in front of him.
Ding!
[ The Hatred of the Wing Monarch:
Every time the Wing Monarch senses you, her command will take effect.
Note: Move as far away as possible from the Wing Monarch.]
Forsyx stared at that notification with a pale face. Shit, so this was not the only time.
He just froze there as he checked the notification.
He just couldn’t believe his eyes. After all, another big part that played into his survival was the fact that none of the beginner monsters had skills.
It wasn’t just about those elite bosses—even the small creatures had no skills.
But beyond the beginner area... Just the thought of thousands of creatures running toward him with skills made him frown.
This was not something he was prepared for.
