Chapter 51: Chapter 51 Xiao Jinsheng, I Will Not Trust You Anymore
"Then marry me," Xiao Jinsheng said weakly.
"No, you need to divorce first," Li emphasized.
"Marry first."
"Divorce first."
"Marry."
"Divorce."
An old man turned his head back and forth, watching the two arguing, trying to mediate.
Realizing he couldn’t get a word in, the old man quietly leaned on his cane and left. "I’m just an old sack of bones. Please don’t accidentally hurt me."
"How can I divorce them if you don’t marry me first!" Xiao Jinsheng snapped.
"How can I marry you if you don’t divorce them first!" Li retorted angrily. "Do you expect me to play second fiddle?"
"They’re all Beast Husbands, why does it matter who’s first or second," Xiao Jinsheng mumbled weakly.
Li heard it all.
He erupted, "You’re nothing but a promise-breaking liar!"
His eyes flushed red with emotion as he grabbed Xiao Jinsheng’s wrist and pinned her against the wall.
"You said it yourself! You agreed to it!"
Li’s voice choked, "You told me to live well so that I could marry you someday. And now you go back on your word? Just for those five ex-husbands? Do you want me dead?"
"It’s not that serious," Xiao Jinsheng twisted her wrist, trying to break free.
As she met Li’s obsessive and crimson gaze, she shrank back in fear. "Uh... don’t get worked up. Let’s sit down and talk this through, okay?"
Li simply stared at her with blazing intensity, biting his lower lip without responding.
"Li?" Xiao Jinsheng noticed his mood shift and carefully leaned closer, softly calling out, "Can you let go of me, please?"
"No," Li firmly gripped her wrist and pushed her backward.
Both of their silhouettes passed through the wall, and Li pressed Xiao Jinsheng directly down onto the large bed they had come from.
"You don’t keep your promises at all," Li said, kneeling on the bed. Xiao Jinsheng lay beneath him, her waist pinned tightly between his knees.
"You only know how to lie to me."
Her wrists and body were restrained. Struggling to no avail, her chin was gently lifted. Looking up, her gaze met Li’s deep yet obsessive eyes beneath the Demon Mask.
Li’s hand traced her collarbone as he pulled open her neckline, speaking coldly, "Xiao Jinsheng... I won’t ever trust you again."
"And I won’t..." Li leaned down, his lips planting scattered kisses along her collarbone, "I won’t ever let you go."
"Stop!" Xiao Jinsheng kicked at him, only for her collarbone to receive a harsh bite in retaliation.
"You bit me again! What are you, a dog?" Xiao Jinsheng shouted angrily, slamming her chin into the top of his head in frustration.
They both winced from the pain. Li anxiously rubbed her chin, asking, "Did it hurt?"
"Have the nerve to ask?" Xiao Jinsheng swatted his hand away and scooted toward the edge of the bed. "Who told you you could touch me?"
Li’s expression shifted with hurt, his voice tinged with bitterness. "You’re fine with them, but not with me?"
As he spoke, his gaze grew colder, and he leaned closer to Xiao Jinsheng.
She quickly turned over and climbed off the opposite side of the bed, sprinting toward the door, only to have a black light ring appear in front of her.
Before she could stop in time, she passed through the ring. Emerging again, she found herself falling onto the bed, landing squarely in Li’s waiting arms.
Li clasped her waist tightly, pinning her against him.
He reached out, tapping the Cloud Bird Totem on her right collarbone.
Pulling up her wrist, he showed her the Black Panther Totem on his own right arm.
Then, grabbing her left ankle, he revealed the Ink Snake Totem etched on her skin.
"And those are just the ones uncovered." Li held her close, speaking with danger in his tone. "Underneath the fabric, there are still two more, aren’t there?"
Xiao Jinsheng was caught off guard by his question, lowering her head in search of an escape.
"It’s okay for them, but not for me?" Li seized her chin, forcing her to look at him. "If we’re talking about who’s known you the longest, it should be me."
"Did we really know each other before?" Xiao Jinsheng asked.
Seeing her genuine confusion, Li’s demeanor darkened. He gritted his teeth and questioned fiercely, "How dare you forget me!"
In an instant, the objects in the room trembled from the sheer force of his anger.
The diamond curtain hanging by the bed rattled and tangled together.
Out the window by the cliffside, a deafening explosion rang out as a hundred-meter-high wave erupted from the abyss. Xiao Jinsheng turned in shock, staring at the monumental surge she saw through the open window.
Even though Li’s fury deliberately avoided targeting her, Xiao Jinsheng could still feel the suffocating power of his immense strength.
"My memory was altered!" Xiao Jinsheng shouted, shutting her eyes.
"Altered?" Li furrowed his brow, his eyes suddenly filled with murderous intent. "Who did it?"
At that moment, Xiao Jinsheng felt an overwhelming urge to name Bai Yan.
But looking at Li, whose emotions flared intensely, she wrapped her arms around his neck, drawing closer and softening her tone. "Calm down. Once you’re calm, I’ll tell you. Okay?"
"Please, baby~" She gently nuzzled his chin.
"Alright, I’ll listen to you." As she leaned in voluntarily, Li’s rage instantly dissipated. The corners of his lips lifted into a content smile as he lowered his head, brushing his face lightly against her neck. "I knew you wouldn’t forget me."
Xiao Jinsheng chuckled dryly.
Who was it just moments ago calling her a promise-breaking liar?
Still, thinking back to the promises she had broken—especially about the divorce—made her feel somewhat sheepish. Xiao Jinsheng chose to remain quiet.
"I’ve calmed down," Li said, holding her in his arms and softly asking, "Who modified your memory? I’ll deal with them, okay?"
"No," Xiao Jinsheng rebutted, "You’re still not calm."
Moreover, Bai Yan had a system, and the mere mention of Xiao Jinsheng forgetting him easily stirred Li’s emotions.
If Li faced Bai Yan under such conditions, who knew if Bai Yan and that system might manipulate him, revising his memory to turn Li into an enemy.
In that case, Xiao Jinsheng would become the fool who handed her teammate over to the enemy, turning her ally into her adversary.
"She has a system," Xiao Jinsheng explained, trying to reason with him. "That system can override the Superpower Level of Beastmen and modify other people’s memories."
"You’re too emotionally unstable now—it’d be easy for it to exploit an opening and tamper with your memory."
Saying this, Xiao Jinsheng grabbed Li’s collar, which was already unbuttoned, exposing his collarbones and chest. She angrily demanded, "Do you want to be controlled? Have your memory tampered with? Forget me? Turn against me? Or even kill me?"
"I wouldn’t!" Li hurriedly refuted.
"Then listen to me. Until you’ve truly calmed down, you’re not allowed to go find the person who altered my memory!" Xiao Jinsheng warned.
"Alright, I promise." Li nodded, pulling Xiao Jinsheng’s hand toward him and interlocking their fingers. Hope filled his voice as he asked, "So when will you divorce those five ex-husbands?"
Xiao Jinsheng felt a headache coming on.
All this circling back, and it led right back to this issue.
"You..." Xiao Jinsheng had just started to respond when Li interrupted her, "If you don’t divorce them, I won’t marry you."
"I won’t play second." Li added.
Xiao Jinsheng fell silent.
"You can only have me as your Beast Husband," Li declared firmly.
Xiao Jinsheng fell silent again.
"You promised me this when we were kids," Li reminded.
Xiao Jinsheng sighed, "Then tell me about how we used to interact, about the things from before our meeting in Mist West."
After discovering Bai Yan had tampered with her memory and finding clues she herself had left hidden in terrifying drawings, Xiao Jinsheng was certain that her memories from the past nineteen years were flawed.
She was also sure that she hadn’t crossed into Mist Continent during the time she supposedly sold Mo Jiao to the black market, but much earlier.
Her relationship with the five Beast Husbands only lasted half a year and was bad enough that she couldn’t even ask them about her childhood.
Now, with Li bringing up her childhood, he had essentially become a ready-made archive of information. She naturally needed to clear up her doubts and get to the bottom of her lingering questions.
