Chapter 50: Chapter 50: You Said You’d Marry Me When We Grow Up
"Where exactly are you taking me?" Xiao Jinsheng demanded.
"Home." Li tilted his head and pressed a light kiss near her ear.
When the surrounding darkness receded, and Xiao Jinsheng adjusted to the environment, she raised her eyes and saw herself standing in an opulent palace.
The windows were carved from gemstones, the floor paved with crystal cores, and the path through the palace was lit entirely by luminous pearls.
In the bedchamber where Li led Xiao Jinsheng, the centerpiece was a three-meter-wide bed draped with diamond-studded curtains.
Even the shimmering brocade quilt was adorned with pearls and crystals.
"Welcome home." Li circled to stand in front of Xiao Jinsheng, gently lifting her hand. "Everything here was prepared for you. Do you like it?"
"It’s stunning and lavish." Xiao Jinsheng clicked her tongue. "But don’t you think sleeping on such a bed is too glaring and uncomfortable?"
"Wait, why am I even talking to you about this?" Xiao Jinsheng snapped back to her senses. "Who gave you the right to kidnap me? Take me back right now!"
"Take you back for what? So you can roam around in hardship with those five ex-husbands of yours, sleep in crumbling houses, eat canned trash, and risk your life fighting off Fog Corpses?" Li mocked.
"Stop thinking about them." Li pushed Xiao Jinsheng into a chair in front of a desk and once again placed five divorce agreements on the table. "Didn’t you want a divorce with all of them?"
"Sign your name on these, and I’ll handle the negotiations with your five ex-husbands."
"The moment you sign, we’ll get married right away."
"I’ll agree to the divorce, but only if you marry me first. Then I’ll sign the papers." Xiao Jinsheng stood her ground without backing down.
Hearing this, Li tilted her chin up with his finger, his crimson eyes gazing down at her. "That won’t work. If we’re already married, I’d have no choice but to listen to you. If you changed your mind and refused to divorce, I’d be completely powerless."
"Hmph." Xiao Jinsheng huffed angrily and turned her head away, showing him her back.
"If you don’t want to sign now, that’s fine. I can give you time to think it over and sign later."
Li pushed the divorce agreements closer to Xiao Jinsheng. "My terms remain unchanged. You must divorce them first before we marry."
"I don’t want to talk to you right now." Xiao Jinsheng said coldly.
"Alright then." Li replied with a chuckle. "If you won’t talk to me, you can wander around the house for now. As the lady of the house, it wouldn’t do for you not to know your own home."
"My home?" Xiao Jinsheng turned her head to look at him with suspicion.
"Mmhmm, our home." Li nodded, smiling at her.
Xiao Jinsheng’s eyes shifted. She ran to the vanity table and pointed at the jewelry and ornaments inside. "Then I want these."
"They were prepared for you in the first place." Li nodded.
"No, I want to take them with me." Xiao Jinsheng emphasized.
"And where would you take them?" Li asked with a laugh.
With a wave of Xiao Jinsheng’s hand, the vanity table, along with the jewelry, vanished into thin air.
Witnessing this, Li’s expression remained unchanged. "Space manipulation—quite fitting for you."
"Anything else you want to take, my lady?" Li said with a sly smile as he stepped closer to her.
Xiao Jinsheng looked around the room and chose to push the door open to leave.
While walking down the palace corridor, she stood on her toes to reach for a luminous pearl embedded in the wall. "This one’s mine."
"Leave the wall alone, please." Li sighed.
Xiao Jinsheng turned to glare at him, "What? You’re not giving it to me? And you still expect me to divorce first? If you can’t even give me a single luminous pearl, how am I supposed to trust you?"
"I was going to suggest that the ones in the treasury are bigger, already packed in boxes for convenience. Far less trouble than prying them off the wall." Li explained.
"Then I want to go to the treasury." Xiao Jinsheng immediately changed her mind.
Li nodded, just about to reply when he sensed something amiss. He strode quickly to a gemstone window and looked outside.
The palace was built on a cliffside, with one half against the mountain and the other overlooking the sea.
At this moment, the waves crashed against the cliffs, sending towering sprays over a hundred meters high.
Li’s crimson eyes hardened, but as soon as he turned to look at Xiao Jinsheng again, the malice in his gaze vanished. In a slow, deliberate tone, he called out, "Old Bo."
"Ah, my lord." An aged voice responded.
Xiao Jinsheng followed the sound and watched as an elderly man, hunched and cloaked in black robes, emerged from the wall.
"Take the lady to the treasury," Li said as he ruffled Xiao Jinsheng’s hair. "Go explore with Old Bo for a while. I need to step out and handle something."
"Go quickly." Xiao Jinsheng waved him off repeatedly, showing not the slightest hesitation.
Seeing her completely unbothered attitude, Li gritted his teeth in frustration.
But as the waves climbing the cliffs grew even higher, he pinched Xiao Jinsheng’s cheek and then turned to leave.
As soon as Li was out of sight, Xiao Jinsheng’s curiosity turned to Old Bo.
Looking at the kindly wrinkles on his face, she softened her tone. "Grandpa, why do you call him ’lord’?"
"My lady, because that’s exactly what he is—the lord of this domain." Old Bo answered with a kind smile.
Leaning on his cane, he walked unsteadily ahead. "The treasury is downstairs, my lady. Please follow me."
Seeing how the old man took three steps for every one of hers, Xiao Jinsheng feared his frail bones might fall apart before they reached the treasury.
Letting him lead the way gave her the unsettling feeling she was mistreating her elders.
Smiling, Xiao Jinsheng called out to him, "Grandpa, why don’t we rest and chat for a while? We can wait for Li to come back before heading to the treasury."
"As you wish, my lady." Old Bo chuckled warmly and found a spot to sit down.
Xiao Jinsheng quickly sat across from him, her face full of curiosity. "Grandpa, since Li’s a lord, does his territory have a lot of people?"
"People?" Old Bo was momentarily stunned. He furrowed his brows in thought before eventually nodding. "Perhaps..."
"How many?" Xiao Jinsheng probed.
Old Bo didn’t answer right away but unsteadily raised three fingers.
"Thirty?" Xiao Jinsheng guessed, before correcting herself. "Three hundred?"
"Thirty thousand." Old Bo answered with a smile.
Xiao Jinsheng was stunned. Looking around at the grand but eerily empty palace, she hesitated, "With so many people, why haven’t I seen any of them?"
"They all live on the west side of the palace. If my lady wishes to see them, I can summon them now." Old Bo offered willingly.
Xiao Jinsheng quickly declined, shaking her head. "No need for that. I’ll wait for Li to return before going."
After saying that, she stood up, her curiosity leading her around the palace to look. "Grandpa, Li went out, right? Why don’t you take me outside to find him?"
"My lady, without the lord’s key, we cannot leave." Old Bo shook his head and then explained, "If my lady wishes to leave the palace, just ask the lord for the key. Old Bo believes the lord will surely give it to you."
Xiao Jinsheng pressed her lips together in silence.
He had kidnapped her here—there was no way he wouldn’t fear her escaping. The idea of him giving her the key was absurd.
Noticing her lack of enthusiasm, Old Bo asked kindly, "My lady, since my old bones are too slow, shall I call a servant to take you to the treasury instead?"
"Sorry to trouble you, Grandpa." Xiao Jinsheng thanked him, withdrawing her disappointed gaze from the Star Map.
Since arriving at the palace, none of her messages on the Star Map had successfully gone through.
Evidently, the palace fully blocked all terminal signals.
When Li returned with his long black hair still wet, he went to look for Xiao Jinsheng and was greeted by an empty treasury, stripped clean of even a speck of dust.
Standing at the treasury’s entrance, Xiao Jinsheng tilted her chin and said, "I liked everything inside, so it’s mine now."
"Wow, how impressive." Li clapped sarcastically, shooting Old Bo a glance.
Old Bo pulled a large chest out of thin air from the wall. When the chest was opened, it revealed a pile of keys inside.
"Was it exhausting clearing out just one treasury?" Li tugged Xiao Jinsheng’s wrist with feigned concern. "I have a thousand more just like it. If you’re bored, you can clear one out each day."
"Where did you get so many treasures?" Xiao Jinsheng asked in shock.
"I saved them since I was young—as a dowry."
Li’s gaze softened with deep affection as he looked at Xiao Jinsheng. "You told me you liked these things, so I brought them with me to fulfill our promise—to marry you."
"Xiao Jinsheng, won’t you divorce those five men for me?"
Li’s thumb brushed against her cheek, his crimson eyes clouded with longing. "You promised me—you said that when we grew up, we would get married."
