Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Please Install a GPS to Clearly Understand Your Position
The doorbell rang not long after Xiao Jinsheng and the others got home.
Su Ye happened to be parking in the yard. He opened the gate and saw Bai Yan standing outside. Turning his head, he yelled into the house, "Xiao Jinsheng, someone’s here for you."
"No, no, no," Bai Yan quickly refuted.
Catching Su Ye’s doubtful gaze, she brushed some stray hair behind her ear, revealing her pristine profile.
She tilted her head and smiled sweetly. "I’m here for you."
"Just now, our car accidentally hit yours. I’m here to apologize on behalf of Jin Ao," Bai Yan said, softening her voice. "It wasn’t intentional; the car had a problem. The brakes failed."
"Ms. Bai, isn’t there something you’re getting wrong?" Su Ye’s golden eyes darkened. "Your car didn’t hit me; it nearly hit my entire family."
"If we hadn’t dodged in time, we might’ve been flipped over and wiped out completely."
"I’m sorry, my wording was inappropriate," Bai Yan said sincerely, full of regret.
She held out the basket in her hands to Su Ye. "These are some specialties I brought back from the neighboring Cui Bai City. I wanted you... all to try them."
Seeing that Su Ye didn’t reach for the basket, Bai Yan’s gaze swept over the bloodstains on his clothes.
She covered her mouth in alarm and looked at Su Ye with concern. "You’re hurt? Did Jinsheng hit you again?"
Before waiting for an answer, she set down the basket and anxiously started heading back. "Wait here, I’ll go get you some medicine for the wound."
Su Ye found her behavior utterly baffling.
As he moved to close the yard gate, he asked, "Do I even know you that well?"
"I know Jinsheng. If she hit you, she wouldn’t let you use medicine," Bai Yan replied with empathetic understanding. "Don’t worry. If I give you the medicine, I won’t tell Jinsheng."
Su Ye looked at the bloodstains on himself, which were all from Fog Corpses he had killed.
His clothes weren’t even torn.
He couldn’t fathom why Bai Yan was so convinced he was injured.
Su Ye considered this an insult to his capability in dealing with Fog Corpses.
He began to suspect something was off with Bai Yan’s mental state and hurriedly shut the gate.
Just as the gate clicked shut, someone beside him yanked it open again.
Bai Yan thought Su Ye had changed his mind and was about to accept her kind gesture.
She positioned herself at the best angle, turned back slowly, her gaze affectionate—only to meet Xiao Jinsheng’s smirking, provocative face.
"Oh, what a surprise. Look at me, exuding such deep emotion," Xiao Jinsheng sneered coldly.
"Oh, Jinsheng," Bai Yan’s face stiffened.
"What’s the matter? Disappointed to see me? Just a second ago, you didn’t have this ’you owe me eight million’ look on your face," Xiao Jinsheng raised an eyebrow and questioned.
"I hit him? When did I hit him? Why don’t I know about it?"
"Jinsheng, you really need to treat your Beast Husbands better," Bai Yan said, shaking her head with a look full of reproach. "They were assigned to you by the Terminal to protect your safety."
"Even if you don’t like them, they’re family now. At least for my sake, don’t keep insulting and beating them. That’s not what a kind-hearted female should do."
Xiao Jinsheng’s eyes widened in disbelief, completely irked by Bai Yan’s words.
Day after day, who had she offended to deserve this?
First, Bai Yan’s family nearly flipped her car, and now Bai Yan showed up to criticize her.
She hadn’t even had a chance to go confront them and demand explanation!
"Jinsheng, I don’t understand," Bai Yan said, full of puzzlement, her gaze at Xiao Jinsheng laden with disappointment.
"Why have you been so unreasonable ever since you were a child? On the Mist Continent, females and their Beast Husbands are supposed to help each other."
"Even if you don’t like your Beast Husbands, you shouldn’t insult or beat them. And forbidding them from taking tasks to earn 8 Stars is over the line."
"If I couldn’t get along with my Beast Husbands, I wouldn’t humiliate them and create resentment. I would choose to set them free."
"Jinsheng, you’ve been married for half a year now. You really need to stop being so wrong-headed. Your Beast Husbands are all great."
Xiao Jinsheng couldn’t help but laugh out of sheer anger at Bai Yan’s lengthy, self-righteous tirade.
Which tea master had come here to brew Dragon Well tea in front of her?
She gave Bai Yan a sarcastic thumbs-up. "Wow, you’re amazing. So virtuous, so noble. Always keeping tabs on other people’s men."
"How I treat them, whether good or bad, is my family’s business."
"Are they your men? Why are you running your mouth non-stop?"
"With all this energy, maybe focus on handling the endless infighting among your six Beast Husbands first."
"At least my Beast Husbands never wage internal wars."
That was because, before, they all had her as their common enemy. Though, of course, Xiao Jinsheng wouldn’t say something that undermined her own dignity.
She let out a derisive snort. "Bai Yan, don’t you think you’re overstepping? I don’t want to be too nasty, but your tea-brewing has crossed into my yard, and I’m genuinely curious now."
"Is it with ulterior motives..."
"...or are you just plain peculiar, someone who loves meddling in others’ business? Is it that even when a manure truck passes by, you’d grab a spoon to taste if it’s salty?"
Bai Yan stumbled back a step, her eyes instantly reddening with grievance. "Jinsheng, I’m doing this for your own good. How can you speak so harshly?"
"Oh, there’s harsher to come. I don’t want to argue, but if you dare blabber in front of me again, don’t blame me for extending my greetings to your entire family," Xiao Jinsheng retorted with a huff.
"You female, so petty and venomous," Jin Ao stormed over, furious.
He pulled the teary-eyed Bai Yan into his arms, glaring at Xiao Jinsheng in rage. "My Xiao Yan came here kindly with gifts to apologize, and instead of appreciating her, you insulted her!"
"Why are you yelling? You think showing up now makes you look like a hero?" Xiao Jinsheng fired back. "You’re the one who hit us with your car, and it’s Bai Yan who came to apologize."
"What kind of man are you, making your wife take the blame for your mistakes?"
"And now you’ve got the audacity to scold me? Weren’t you the one who should’ve come up to apologize first?"
"Didn’t you have a GPS in the car? Get a grip on your own position."
"You caused the problem, and not long after you forgot about it?"
"With such a small brain capacity, maybe go home and plug in a 4G USB drive."
Jin Ao froze for a moment before realizing the meaning of Xiao Jinsheng’s words.
After all, it had been quite a long apocalypse. With so few people around, most had seen their language skills take a hit.
He yelled angrily, "You’re insulting me!"
Xiao Jinsheng shook her head innocently. "Don’t slander me. I didn’t insult you."
"I never insult anyone," she added, winking playfully at Su Ye. "Isn’t that right?"
"Jin Ao, you’re the one who hit us first with your car," Su Ye said, shielding Xiao Jinsheng behind him with a frosty expression. "We don’t accept your apology, and you’d better stop causing trouble."
"Su Ye, you’ve changed!" Jin Ao frowned as he looked at Su Ye. "This venomous female has abused you like this for half a year, and yet you’re still defending her."
"Your talent isn’t any worse than mine. If it weren’t for this venomous female dragging you down, you’d already be at 8 Stars with your superpower."
"For the sake of our childhood friendship, as a brother, I’m advising you: divorce this venomous female as soon as you can. Being stuck under her might cost you your life one day."
"Beastmen who get divorced aren’t supported by the Terminal," Xiao Jinsheng interjected, thoughtful. "If you want to take new missions, you’d have to find another female to marry."
She glanced at Bai Yan before looking back at Jin Ao. "Oh, now I get it."
