Legendary FBI Detective
Chapter 396: Interrogation, Making a Cake, How to Make a Cake

Special Investigation Team, interrogation room.

Mona still had work on her hands, and Reesi was too stuffed to move for the moment, so the one who joined Luo An in the interrogation room was Michelle.

Inside the interrogation room, Sampson, shot in both legs, sat in a wheelchair, his hands cuffed to the interrogation table, and his bandaged feet also shackled together. His head hung low in silence, and it was unclear what he was thinking.

"Good evening, introverted Mr. Sampson."

Luo An plonked himself down opposite Sampson, opened the file in his hand to take a look, and said:

"Your negligence in the hospital allowed us to find a cello case in your room at the Halfway House, inside which we found a sniper rifle and two handguns.

After forensic examination, we have confirmed that the sniper rifle is the murder weapon used to kill Judge Taylor Davis.

Sampson, do you have anything to explain? For instance, that you just picked up that rifle."

Sampson lifted his head and gave Luo An a cold look, remaining silent.

"Alright."

Luo An didn't care, and as he turned to the second page of the folder, he took out a photograph of a four or five-year-old girl with pale blue eyes, and said:

"We have looked into your bank accounts, and to my surprise, you even have a wife and daughter.

The girl's eyes are exactly like yours; there is no need for a DNA test to see that she is unquestionably your daughter. Life is quite miraculous, isn't it?"

Watching the photo of his daughter placed on the interrogation table right in front of him by Luo An, Sampson's eyes involuntarily flickered, and seeing this, Luo An gave a slight smile and pushed the photo a little closer towards Sampson, saying:

"Sampson, you are now standing at a crossroads, but it's not just you here; your daughter is as well.

To assassinate a judge, a key witness about to testify in court, the best outcome you can expect is getting into a federal maximum-security prison. That's the kind where you spend 23.5 hours a day crouching in an airtight little box until the day you die—a few decades, during which time you won't be allowed visitations, unable to see your wife and your daughter.

Your daughter hasn't even started school yet; you must be aware of the atmosphere in federal schools..."

Hearing Luo An's words, Sampson's face grew increasingly uglier, his breathing more and more labored, until he suddenly shouted out:

"Enough!"

Thump—

"Not enough!"

Sampson suddenly raised his voice, and Luo An slapped the table standing up, even louder than Sampson:

"You are just a small fry, do you understand? Our target is the big fish!

Do you really want to spend your life in that lightless box? Never see your daughter again? Don't forget the federal saying: Blood is thicker than anything! Don't ruin her!"

"..."

Sampson's eyes reddened, his chest heaving, and he breathed heavily, just staring intently at Luo An.

Luo An stared back undauntedly, and as the seconds ticked by, finally, Sampson's breathing rhythm slowly calmed down, and he asked hoarsely:

"How can I be sure that you can bring him down? His tricks are too many, and he knows too many people!

This is the Federation! He has the money! He can find ways to know who are the jurors and those witnesses, and then eliminate them!"

Sampson didn't say who "he" was, but both Luo An and Michelle knew he was referring to the mastermind behind it all: Trevian Sheffield.

Looking at Sampson, whose face was flushed and full of disbelief, Luo An didn't get angry, instead he cracked a smile.

Luo An wasn't afraid of being questioned, nor of negotiating terms, for this indicated the other party's position was beginning to waver, and what would follow were merely the details of the terms and benefits.

"Rest assured, I indeed have a foolproof method to take him down, otherwise I wouldn't be discussing this with you. I don't engage in time-wasting activities."

Luo An patted Sampson on the shoulder, then extended his hand with a smile, saying:

"So, you'll be our witness, right? Blood is thicker than water."

Sampson remained silent for a long time, before finally gritting his teeth and shaking hands with Luo An.

Pleased with the response, Luo An nodded and said with a smile:

"Very good, you've made the right decision."

Letting go of Sampson's hand, Luo An turned back to signal Michelle that the interrogation was over, and they both left the interrogation room.

The moment he stepped out of the interrogation room, Luo An rang up the Department of Justice official in charge of the Trevian Sheffield case.

After the other party agreed to come to the Special Investigation Team's office area immediately, Luo An fiddled with his phone and dialed a familiar number:

"Team Leader Elmer? Yes, it's me, Luo An..."

Receiving a reply from the other party that they would arrive at the Special Investigation Team soon, Luo An hung up the phone with a smile.

Luo An liked having a whole cake to himself, but when the piece of cake was too small and difficult to eat alone, he preferred to make the cake bigger.

By sharing the cake with others, Luo An would receive a larger portion than before, improved relationships with these people, and support in other matters in the future - it was a case of killing several birds with one stone.

The next day, at 8 a.m., the Special Investigation Team meeting room.

Just as Luo An sat down in the main seat of the meeting room, familiar laughter was heard outside:

"As expected of the Special Investigation Team led by Luo An Greenwood, all the agents under you are talents!"

Michelle, along with the visitors and their subordinate agents, entered the meeting room. Luo An got up to greet them, and the person in question was the senior investigation team leader from the IRS Criminal Investigation Department: Elmer.

Elmer and Luo An were old acquaintances, from their initial introduction to each other by Augustus in their Investigation Team Five days, to their collaboration on several cases, and their friendly chats at the FBI Washington Headquarters. One could say that Luo An was absolutely Elmer's favorite young man over the years.

Not only because Luo An was promoted to the Special Investigation Team leader at a young age with a bright future ahead, but also because every time Luo An reached out to Elmer, he brought a great gift.

For the IRS Criminal Investigation Department, the latter was the most important.

The IRS also had its assessment standards, where the competent rose and the mediocre fell, vividly demonstrated within the IRS. With Luo An's help in recent times, Elmer had gotten his hands on a lot of cake, arousing the envy of many colleagues.

Elmer made a silent decision that even if this trip to Los Angeles resulted in no gains or even a loss, he would spare no effort to help Luo An, absolutely preventing contact between Luo An and other team leaders within the IRS.

Hence, this time Elmer also brought a gift for Luo An: a large box of English Breakfast tea.

After learning that Luo An enjoyed tea, Elmer had procured some English Breakfast tea.

It was the tea most favored by the Queen of the United Kingdom. Elmer didn't know much about tea, but he felt that if the Queen liked it, the quality certainly wouldn't be bad.

"Thank you, Team Leader Elmer, it's too generous."

Accepting the tea presented by the other party, Luo An's face broke into a warm and delightful smile, and they sat in their chairs engaging in happy conversation, making Elmer's subordinate agents gape in astonishment as they rarely saw their boss so affable and friendly.

Before long, Cecilia, the Department of Justice team leader in charge of the Trevian Sheffield case, also arrived at the Special Investigation Team with several agents.

Once everyone from the three parties had arrived and briefly introduced themselves, Luo An cleared his throat. When the crowd quieted down, he pulled over a whiteboard covered in photos, and the meeting... the cake distribution began in earnest.
