Chapter 54: BLOOD OF POISON
Chapter 54: BLOOD OF POISON
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: MIRAGE ~ ZEOKRANUN]
Kitanna blinked her eyes continuously and used the back of her hand to wipe her eyes. Was she now imagining things? She asked herself.
It was just a few minutes ago that his heartbeat was faint, almost lost. But the person sitting in front of her right now looked healthier than her.
Kitanna turned to look at Axilla to make sure they were seeing the same thing.
Axilla shrugged her shoulders.
"Nix...are you feeling alright?" Kitanna walked closer to where he was.
Nix removed the sheets that were used to cover him, picked up his upper garment, and draped it over his body. He stood tall.
"I am fine. Go and get some rest. Axilla, take the princess to her room and help her clean up," Nix ordered.
Axilla bowed to the orders and moved to assist the princess out of the room, but Kitanna stood there, she couldn’t just help it. She weaved her hands through her already scattered hair.
"I...I thought you were going to die, Nix. I gave up my title for three days as that was the rule of the game. As of this moment, I am just a maid," Kitanna said. She sighed and bent down in frustration. Kitanna was just tired.
The whole room turned quiet. Axilla couldn’t believe what she had just heard, the princess becoming a maid, that was the most humiliating thing.
Nix raised one of his brows, "Why would you give up your title?" He asked.
Nix gritted his teeth. Those plotting, tricky women seemed to have planned it all out and knew Kitanna’s weakness.
Kitanna stood up straight and looked at Nix. Was he really asking why she gave up her title? She was going to open her lips to talk but then she noticed Axilla was still in the room. So she stopped.
Axilla, who wished to be anywhere but in the room at that moment, noticed the princess was holding back because of her. She bowed and left the room, as it looked like a lovers’ quarrel was about to take place.
Before Axilla left, Nix called her back, "Don’t let anyone know I am awake." On hearing his words, Axilla nodded and quietly left the room.
Kitanna sat down on the bed when Axilla left. She didn’t know where to start. One minute she was feeling guilty for accusing Nix, the next minute she was mad at him because he had so many secrets.
"What else happened? What else did they ask of?" Nix asked. He knew very well that the women wouldn’t just stop at taking away her title.
"The seal. They asked for me to give up the other seal which was in my possession," Kitanna said, her voice coming out as a whisper.
Nix punched the wall with anger, startling Kitanna. She raised her eyes to look at him. For the first time Kitanna saw anger flash in his calm blue eyes. Kitanna pressed her hands together, she felt bad. Nix was angry because she gave up the seal they had fought hard to obtain just like that. The only reason Nix stayed by her side was because the seal helped him protect his people.
She looked away from the angry Nix, who was now walking to where she was sitting. Kitanna wanted to bolt from the room. The anger coming from Nix was very evident.
Nix raised his hand and touched her face gently. Kitanna, who was already scared, closed her eyes.
"Don’t be afraid, Kitanna," Nix said in a low voice to hide his anger.
Kitanna slowly opened her eyes. "Are you going to leave my side now that I don’t have the seal?" she asked innocently.
"Dummy... The seal is not the reason I’m with you in the first place," Nix sighed.
"Those women just put their toes in their mouth. Three days to be a maid, right? I’ll arrange for you to work only in my quarters." Nix continued and moved his hand to push the hair strand that was stuck to Kitanna’s face.
Kitanna wanted to ask him why he was working for her if not for the seal. But she pushed to ask the most important question.
"What other secrets do you have? I need to know so I don’t make mistakes again. Do you fly?" Kitanna asked with a straight face.
Nix pulled his head back a little in laughter and used his hand to pat her head gently.
"You know, for a feisty princess, you are cute," Nix said, looking at Kitanna.
Kitanna noticed the different emotions she never expected Nix to have in one night. He was angry, he smiled, and a flash of worry. It was foreign to Kitanna, and he was unusually talking more. Even the way he looked at her at the moment made her feel like she would break if he stared any harder.
Kitanna cleared her throat. "So your blood is mixed with poison. Is the legend really true?" she asked.
Nix looked away from her. "I will tell you everything when I’m sure you trust me," he said, moving towards the door.
Then he turned to look at Kitanna. "I don’t fly," he closed the door shut.
Kitanna gulped when she noticed the door was locked. It was not her first time staying alone in a room with Nix, but with emotions running high, it felt very different.
"We need to get the seal back. To do that, you need to lay low during your three days as a maid," Nix said.
"Don’t eat or bathe with the other maids; do everything in my room. They might try to get rid of you during this time. After the three days, I will make sure they get what they deserve." He reassured Kitanna.
Kitanna stood up from her bed, feeling relieved that at least someone was on her side. And not just someone, it was the White Lord, Nix. She decided to place all her bets on him. Why wouldn’t she? Someone who could not be killed by poison. Kitanna grinned; the two of them together were an invincible force.
Kitanna, while in her thoughts, noticed Nix saunter towards her. She moved back a little when he came very close, invading her space.
"Now, Princess, why were you so stubborn today?" Nix asked, holding Kitanna’s waist firmly.
Kitanna blinked, stubborn? She remembered in the forest when Nix had asked her to stop walking, and she continued. She gulped softly, unable to find words because of the hand on her waist, which was now moving slowly to her back.
"Well... If I didn’t walk, we wouldn’t know about your special blood," Kitanna grinned, her voice breaking.
Nix moved closer, his face almost touching Kitanna’s. His eyes trailed to stop at her lips, which were gently parted. Nix moved his eyes up to look at her brown eyes.
Kitanna was also staring at him, her heart racing with every passing second. She felt something tie in her stomach. Kitanna closed her eyes, bringing her face closer.
Nix smiled at the action, he brought his own face closer. When his lips almost touched hers, he pulled his head back and let go of her waist.
Kitanna flew her eyes open, and Nix was no longer standing in front of her. She turned, and that was when she noticed the room door was open, with only Axilla standing outside.
"The White Lord said to get you ready in the maid outfit," Axilla said calmly.
