Chapter 212: HIDE AND SEEK

[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: WASTED ~ YOUNHA]

Axilla shut her eyes for a brief moment when she saw the woman who she pulled her hair out in the afternoon. This wasn’t going to end well, the young girl said to herself; maybe it wasn’t too late to go back and meet Cortez.

"Lady Axila, you say?" The woman finally spoke, her words directed to Lady Jenna but her eyes on Axilla.

Lady Jenna nodded with a smile, "Yes, Lady Marianne, do you perhaps know her?" She asked excited to have women in her party who knew each other.

The woman, whom Axilla now knew her name to be Lady Marianne, scowled. "I don’t go about knowing just anybody. I’m wondering why you are calling Cortez’s servant a lady. Is the title now for the dogs?" The woman asked rudely.

Axilla clenched her fist tightly; was she just called a dog? She opened her mouth to fight back, but Lady Jenna spoke on her behalf.

"Lady Marianne! Watch your mouth. You are a woman of class, and your words should represent that. How could you say that to your fellow woman? Even though we are born differently, it doesn’t make any woman less of a person. To her family, she is also as important and cherished as you are." Lady Jenna scolded the woman, turning to Axilla, she smiled sweetly.

"Allow me to apologize on Lady Marianne’s behalf; she had a lot of cookies; the sugar must be talking."

With the sweet way the woman was talking, Axilla couldn’t remain angry. She finally smiled, "Thank you, Lady Jenna."

Lady Marianne fumed; why was everyone supporting a servant over her? She felt anger course in her nerves as she stomped out of the room.

"Better," Lady Jenna muttered under her breath, "Come meet my friends, Lady Axilla."

Soon Axilla found herself greeting other women; she was finally enjoying the tea party as she heard the stories about so many women’s adventures. She enjoyed the tea and the story; now she realized why people left their homes to gather with others. It was fun.

"Haha, then I finally let him go. I’m glad I did because my husband loves me so much." A woman completed her story, getting words of congratulations from the other ladies.

"What about you, Lady Jenna? Do you still have feelings for Cortez, or are you happy with your husband?" One of the maidens asked.

Axilla inched closer to hear what the woman would reply. Deep down she also wanted to know if they still shared feelings for themselves.

Lady Jenna smiled nervously, "I believe that is a sensitive question, especially with Lady Axila here. I’ll prefer not to say anything, but I’m in a happy place, if that answers your question."

Other women nodded; it wasn’t what they wanted to hear, but they decided to let go.

"What about you, Lady Axilla? How did you meet with him? Are you both in your courting phase, or has he spoken with the elders of your family?" They targeted Axilla with their question.

Axilla swallowed the biscuit in her mouth without chewing properly; she didn’t know how to answer the women. "I met him when he arrived for an occasion; there was a mistake so I ended up in his room."

Axilla’s mind traveled back to her first encounter with Cortez. She had gone to sleep in his room after drinking during Kitanna’s reinstatement, it was also when she, Axilla, had finally turned into a full-grown woman, and from there, their relationship became a little bumpy but yet he was the first person she always thought of whenever she was in trouble.

"Seems like Cortez is really smitten by Lady Axila." Lady Jenna chimed, trying to light up the atmosphere.

Others hummed in agreement, as their conversation moved on. They continued to talk about other things.

"Oh! The biscuit has finished; let me go and get more." Lady Jenna stood up and left the room.

Axilla felt slightly uncomfortable with the woman’s absence; it had been Lady Jenna who warmed her up with other maidens; with her not in the room, Axilla felt out of place.

"Lady Axilla," a maid came in asking for who Lady Axilla was, and quickly Axilla raised her hand.

"Lady Jenna asked that you should come help her out in the kitchen." The maid replied stepping out of the room.

Axilla bowed to other ladies and stepped out of the room. She was glad she had the opportunity to leave the room because she had been looking for one. Now outside the room, Axilla wondered where the maid was because she needed someone to point the kitchen for her.

She continued to walk through the corridor that was lighted with candles at each pillar so it made it possible for her to see clearly where she was going.

"Where is the kitchen?" Axilla muttered to herself, then she finally caught sight of Lady Jenna who was inside a room. Getting closer to the room, Axilla noticed the woman was talking to someone, she didn’t mean to eavesdrop but she heard them clearly because of how quiet the room was.

"You invited your lover into my home? How dare you!" Axilla saw a masculine hand grab Lady Jenna’s neck tightly.

Axilla gasped; her eyes widened in shock. She didn’t know what to do; it was a couple quarrel and she didn’t have any right to involve herself.

"Why are you scared of Cortez? Because he is far better than the man you would dream of becoming? My worst mistake was to accept you as my husband and I’ll regret it till I die." Lady Jenna’s voice was heard rebuking the man angrily.

The man laughed, "He can never have you; you will always be my wife, and I will handle your body the way I want while your imagination runs wild about him! And you will die with pains and regret!" The man tore Lady Jenna’s dress, exposing her bosom.

Axilla clenched her hand on the side of her gown; she stepped forward to go and help the woman out when she felt someone hold her waist firmly, dragging her away from there to a dark place.

Axilla tried to wriggle herself from the person’s hold, but it was very firm.

"Stop running; let’s make this quick." Axilla’s body froze when she heard the man’s voice.

She tried to shout, but the man covered her mouth, "Only make a sound when I’m done with you." The person whispered.

Axilla’s body shook in fear; she was not seeing the place clearly, and she didn’t know where she was. Even if she tried to shout, it won’t reach anyone’s ear, all she had to do was try to push the man away.

"The more you push me, the more I keep enjoying this little cat." Axilla felt the man’s tongue rub on the skin on her neck, before she heard the sound of her gown ripping apart.

Then light came shining brightly in the room; Axilla thanked her stars. Before she could catch her breath, the man moved away from her willingly.

Axilla found it suspicious; she raised her face. In front of her was everyone who had gathered for the party, including Lady Jenna who was now dressed properly, her ripped gown was replaced, like her gown was never torn, and beside her was Cortez. Everyone stared at her with disbelief.

It finally dawned to Axilla, she looked down on her torn dress which was exposing her leg almost her inner thighs. She tried to cover herself from the judging eyes of people, as she stared at Cortez trying explain to him with her eyes.

"I told you all, Lowly girls like her only look for the next prey." Axilla’s blood froze when she saw Lady Marianne who was grinning at her predicament tell others in a very loud voice.
