Chapter 173: BRINGING NICE TREAT HOME

[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: ANGEL BABY ~ TROYE SIVAN]

Kitanna sat in the throne room listening to a case, but her mind was not there. After she read Nix’s letter, she had noticed that he tried not to sound worried about suddenly finding his father’s amulet on someone, but Kitanna knew he was just trying to act strong; Nix was really worried.

"Queen Kitanna, what is your final judgement?" Her thoughts were finally broken when the royal secretary called her attention.

Kitanna reclined on her chair; her eyes moved from the two persons standing in the middle to the ministers who wanted to hear what she had to say about the case. Her mind was thinking about Nix, but she heard what they were arguing about. It was about a woman; the two men standing at the center were fighting over a woman.

"It is better we hear from the woman in question. We should respect her choice," Kitanna finally said, noticing the change in expression on the ministers’ faces.

"Your Majesty, I think it is rightful that this young man takes the woman, as he met her parents first," the prime minister spoke, getting a nod of agreement from other palace officials.

Kitanna rubbed her temples, looking at them tiredly. She was really not cut out for this. Was this what Nix had to listen to every day? What was her business with who the lady chose as a husband or not? She was already worried for her own husband. Kitanna sighed.

"Clephas, bring the woman inside," she muttered, ignoring the murmuring that came from the ministers. It was like this every time, as if they wanted to prove to her that her judgement was never correct.

The woman in question, who was the star of the moment, walked inside the throne room. When she saw the two men who she knew very well, she threw away her face in shame, and it didn’t go unnoticed by Kitanna.

"Greetings, Your Majesty, greetings ministers of the court. My name is Beth." The woman bowed deeply.

Kitanna acknowledged her greeting by nodding, "These two men here are arguing over you. One said he found you first and met with your father; the other said you are his lover, and it has been so for over seven years. Beth, I am asking you now in front of the ministers which one among these men do you choose?" The young queen asked, finding the situation absurd.

Beth bit her trembling lips; her eyes moved from the two men then down to her stomach, which she was holding firmly.

"Beth, I am a gentleman. I went to meet your parents telling them my interest, whereas this man was hiding you." The first man puffed his chest proudly, getting a supportive nod from the ministers because the man’s father was a nobleman.

But the other man didn’t feel intimidated. "Beth, you know what you want. Remember how much we love each other. I promised to work hard to raise a family with you." He remarked, smiling at the woman he loved.

Beth closed her eyes for a second, then she said, "I’m pregnant!" She shouted.

"Great! No need for the debate anymore; you go home with the father of the baby." Kitanna smiled, feeling happy that the case was coming to an end.

"Who is the father?" The young queen asked, so as to end the court session as quickly as possible.

The two men had confused looks on their faces, looking at each other warily.

"You! How dare you lay your filthy fingers on her!" The first man, who was a nobleman’s son, glared at the other one.

The one who was Beth’s lover, looking perplexed, turned to look at the woman he loved so much. "Beth, you told me you were going to visit him. Did you allow him to touch you that day? You said you’ll keep yourself until marriage." With his heart torn, the man said, almost crying.

Kitanna raised her eyebrows; the two men none fathered the child? This was beginning to get dramatic, she thought. And here she was jubilating that the court session was about to end.

"I’m sorry..." Beth muttered, bowing her head in shame.

Kitanna closed her eyes, trying her best to keep calm in the situation. "Beth, please tell us who is the father of the child so you can go and be with him. It’s obvious none of these men truly stole your heart," she tried to advise.

Beth bit her trembling lips again, "It...it happened the day I went to visit Sir Nicholas, so his father...asked me to..."

"My father?" The nobleman’s son couldn’t believe it. His eyes widened in shock.

Even the court officials were shocked at the revelation; they turned to look at each other.

"Court dismissed!" Kitanna ended the court session, sending everyone back home. This was a family problem now; she wasn’t going to involve herself. After everyone had left the throne room, she sat alone with her eyes closed. She felt a slight headache, and she didn’t know if it was because of the earlier case or because she was worried about Nix.

When the door to the throne room opened, Kitanna muttered, "I need some time alone, please."

But the steps didn’t stop; they kept getting closer, making Kitanna open her eyes slowly.

"Little wild eye," Nix called as he got closer to where she was sitting.

Kitanna cleaned her eyes; maybe she was dreaming because Nix was not yet meant to come back until the next full moon. From his letter, Odel needed a lot of time before they would fully recover from what the intoxicating herb had done to their men.

"Nix!" She whispered, standing up from her throne. The hem of her dress made ruffling sounds on the marble floor as she walked to where Nix was standing.

"My queen," Nix smiled, opening his arms for her to hug. Kitanna enveloped herself in the hug, not willing to let go any moment soon. In case it was a dream, she wanted to enjoy it the most.

"I missed you so much; don’t ever leave me even if it’s for a minute. I was just here listening to an absurd case I didn’t even know what to do. And I was so worried that you’ll be feeling down because of your father’s amulet that you found." Kitanna continued rambling with her face buried in Nix’s chest. That masculine scent she got from him wafted in her nostrils, making her whole body alert.

Nix patted her head gently, trying to calm her down. "I did miss you too; I’m back now." His velvety voice was calm and controlled.

After a moment, Kitanna, still holding him closely, asked, "You are back; is everything okay? Your father, did you find him?" She asked, sniffling back the tears that had formed.

"Before that, I brought a treat back home for you. She’s waiting in the dungeon," Nix said, moving down to peck Kitanna’s lips.

Kitanna furrowed her brows, "A treat? She?" She looked at him confused.

Nix nodded, "Yes. A treat that tried to mess with your husband."
