. . . . .

Axilla ran with all her might; she didn’t stop to look back or even catch her breath. Getting inside her room, she banged the door and curled up on her bed. After she arrived in the palace, Kitanna had given her a room separate from other maids so she had her own personal space.

Holding the pillow close to her chest, she closed her eyes trying to recollect what she had seen. The dark countenance and vibes the young master gave out was something that unnerved her. Young master smokes; he smokes... Axilla’s thoughts were running wild.

Living in Wahels all her life as a child, she had never been outside, didn’t know how things worked until she arrived in the palace, and she began to witness a life-turning experience. The best part of everything was the young master; he had always been there to protect her, though their first meeting had been a little bumpy. But after she escaped from her death sentence, she saw a new side of the young master she never knew existed. He was very kind to her, always checked up on her and never made her feel less of herself. And for one moment, she didn’t expect the side of him she saw this night.

Even though Axilla didn’t know everything about the outside world, she heard stories. She heard stories of men who bring out smoke from their lips, men who allowed themselves to be pleasured by different women, and it was never a good story. She was asked to flee from such men; when Chantal had told her, she wouldn’t find a husband for a fleeting moment, the young master had crossed her mind.

But now, he was someone she was supposed to avoid. She was supposed to erase everything about him from her head. Why? People like him are very bad people.

"But he has been so nice to me." Axilla muttered, trying to keep her heart steady. The innocent but mischievous grin of the young master flashed in her mind. His long lashes and slender fingers that treated her when she was flogged by Panha.

"Get hold of yourself, Axilla; people like him are bad. They are bad people!" She whispered, trying to give herself reasons to forget about the young master, but the words caused her heart to squeeze. Axilla laid on her bed that night thinking about the concept of good and bad. What is considered right and wrong? Of course, there is always a thin line between the yin and the yang. But our Bright flower was far from knowing it.

The following morning, the palace returned to how it was before the wedding. Most of the guests left the palace, so breakfast included just members of the royal family.

As breakfast was going on, Axilla tried her best to keep her eyes on the ground. Throughout last night, she barely had a wink of sleep, and it was affecting her at the moment.

"Axilla" Axilla’s attention was called by a maid who nudged her gently. When she raised her face, the maid cocked her head to a side showing her where her attention was needed. It was the main person she had been avoiding, who was now staring at her directly. She moved her gaze, making her way to the table. Axilla picked up the jug of water the young master was pointing at; she tried to keep her trembling hands steady.

"Ha!" Everyone’s attention was now directed at Axilla and Chief Cortez.

"I’m sorry... I’m sorry" Axilla picked up a tablecloth to help clean up the mess she made, but Cortez moved his hands away, narrowing his eyes at the young girl.

Axilla had been pouring water inside a cup when she noticed the young master move his hands up as if to touch her, she reacted, causing the whole water to land on Cortez’s trousers.

"Oh my, Cortez, are you okay?" Larel asked looking at her brother worriedly, before her eyes trailed to look at Axilla who had guilt written all over her face.

Kitanna dropped her spoon; her attention now focused on Axilla. The young girl’s eyes were all bloodshot; Kitanna furrowed her brows in worry.

"Please pardon Axilla; it seems she has a lot going on in her mind." Kitanna chimed, trying to appease the young man who didn’t look pleased.

Cortez nodded his head, but his annoyance was not the water that was spilled on him but the fact that the girl was now treating him like a plague. Not wasting too much time, he left the dining room.

"I wonder what it is, that is going on in the maid’s head. Did she perhaps see something she shouldn’t have?" Adric who was also at the table interjected, swirling his spoon that was inside his teacup. Yes, Adric did not leave the palace. In his words, he was a potential in-law of the royal family.

Soon, the incident that happened earlier was forgotten as everyone continued with their meal.

After breakfast, Kitanna and Nix were the first to step out of the room. Walking towards the palace entrance.

"Do you really have to go alone?" Kitanna asked not willing to let go of Nix’s hand.

Nix stopped in his steps, tipping up Kitanna’s chin; he planted a warm kiss on her lips. "As much as I love to stay with you at all times, I really have to go alone. And someone needs to take care of the palace; I won’t stay away for too long." He replied, rubbing her cheeks gently.

Kitanna pressed her lips, "Mmm I know you’re going for a good reason, I promised to make Odel better when I become queen, but I didn’t know it would lead to you going alone. It will take time." She pouted, looking away from Nix’s alluring blue eyes.

"Aw aw...look at that. Did you just pout? Doesn’t suit you, my Queen" Nix pinched Kitanna’s nose playfully. "Don’t worry Little wild eye; I’ll be back before you know it. If you keep being a good girl, I’ll teach you something in return." He continued, holding Kitanna’s warm hands in his.

Kitanna nodded her head still feeling reluctant about leaving Nix to go alone, but she had to. They both had the responsibility of taking care of the kingdom, and her first idea was to bring back Odel, making it a safer place for the residents.

Nix didn’t use a carriage; he rode out of the palace with his horse and a few trusted men that were capable. Leaving behind Chantal to watch over the palace.

Kitanna turned to walk back inside the palace when she met with Larel.

"Don’t worry; he will be back soon; you don’t have to look so down." Larel gave Kitanna an assuring smile.

Kitanna sighed, "Thank you, Larel. How is Labre?" She asked as they started walking back inside the palace.

Larel smiled at the name of the boy who warmed her heart. "He is growing healthily." She replied, keeping her steps steady.

"About that, we’ll be leaving with Cortez tomorrow." She completed.

Kitanna stopped in her steps, "Why? Is something making you uncomfortable here?" Her brows furrowed worriedly.

Larel shook her head, "No no, my stay here has been the best. Thank you," she remarked, as they continued strolling inside the palace.

"I’ve been thinking about starting my own life with Labre, and also I don’t want any misunderstanding between Labre and your children. I don’t know if you understand what I mean." Larel said.

Kitanna nodded her head slowly, it was true what Larel was saying. A lot of persons within the palace were capable of planting seeds of evil in the mind of Labre as he grows up. Telling him lies of what happened to his family, which would only result in enmity and hatred. It was a good choice Larel was making, but at the same time, she, Kitana, needed company.

"I understand you; I’ll support any decision you make. But please visit us often." Kitanna finally said.

Away from Morado, inside a house where two persons have refused to give up on revenge. Panha stepped inside the room with a letter in her hand.

"My informant says Nix left the palace with just a few men, while Larel is about to leave the palace with Khelan’s son. What is your plan?."

Deonisia smiled, nodding her head approvingly. "Let’s give Khelan the push he’s been waiting for."
