Chapter 118: SAVE YOUR BREATHE
Chapter 118: SAVE YOUR BREATHE
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: PRINCESS OF CHINA~ COLDPLAY FEAT RIHANNA]
Nix galloped on his horse, urgency in every beat of its hooves. If he could have apparated to where Kitanna was, he would have done it. In front of him was the guard who had relayed the information. Behind him was Lord Hieron and Chantal. Larel stayed behind in the palace, praying for the princess’s safety.
They rode their horses, delving deeper into the forest. Nix thought for a moment; this was not the location that Axilla wrote on her letter. He didn’t stop either; Nix didn’t want to bet on his luck. If Kitanna wanted to see him first, it means her time was ticking. But if it happened that he was tricked, he would make sure the heads of those involved would be rolling inside the deep sea, with their bodies left for wild animals to devour. Nix gritted his teeth as he galloped on his horse.
Inside the forest, the golden hue of the sun cast its dignified illumination first on the dominant trees; the crowns gave the inner forest the beauty of a canopy. The guards of Morado surrounded the two persons who were lying on the shrubs, losing blood with every second that ticked past. One of the persons on the floor was the only one talking and cursing out.
"Let me go! You crazy Princess. We are both going to die!" The young woman gritted her teeth.
Kitanna grinned, blood covering her mouth making her look creepy. "Save your breathe, in that case. If we die together; I promise to find you in hell." The crazy Princess heaved, trying to remain conscious as the stab wound close to her stomach was making her lose excess blood. She used her free hand to hold it tightly, to prevent blood from escaping anymore.
The guards in the forest panicked at the sight in front of them. The princess used her cane-like sword to hold her prey’s neck very tightly. If the woman on the floor should make any move, it’ll only slash her throat open; the princess held the sword strategically. Just one move, and the person would die.
But that wasn’t the case; the princess had below her stomach a knife thrust deep by the other person. And the young woman continued to twist it, so that the princess would give up and let her go. But Kitanna’s name never had the word give up attached to it.
The guards who were scouting the area found the princess and the woman in that state; they tried to separate the two, but Kitanna had given them a strict warning.
’Get the White Lord, Nix.’ And since then till now, the princess, despite losing blood, did not give up on her prey.
"You mad princess! Let me go!!!!" The young woman shouted, trying not move her body else she would drop dead. She didn’t want to die just yet.
Kitanna pressed her stomach where the knife was being twisted; she winced, "Hush now Misam; you talk way too much."
Misam glared at the princess. Their escape plan had been perfect and well-planned until the princess suddenly showed up. Chasing after them, it was her ill luck which made her horse run slower, and she was caught by Kitanna. The princess’s fighting skills were precise; even the men that had turned to help her out were taken down by the princess in one cut.
The princess fought like a wild dog, and when her knife caught Misam’s neck, she refused to release it even after being stabbed. The princess was a maniac, no doubt.
Kitanna could swear she was seeing the white light, but she didn’t want to give up just yet until someone she trusted was around. She didn’t trust anyone there.
"Nix... where are you?" She muttered faintly, trying to reserve her breath; she had already lost a huge amount of blood.
Kitanna’s mind went back to the night before and how she found herself now in this mess. When she read the letter that was sent by Axilla, she dropped it under her pillow so as to give it to Nix the next day. She didn’t want to act recklessly and make Nix worry about her. She moved her hand to close the windows, and again she noticed movements in the dark, outside.
That was when a maid stepped inside her room to turn off the candles. Kitanna remembered saying to the maid,
"The night breeze is too much, making me imagine things’" she smiled a little.
The maid didn’t reply but bowed and proceeded to turn off the candlelight after the princess laid on her bed. Leaving Kitanna in the darkness, she rolled on the bed. She couldn’t get this heavy feeling off her chest that something was wrong.
Kitanna reached out for her long robe, donning it over her shoulder; she moved out of the dark room. She walked towards Nix’s quarters, but she remembered he said he would be busy, so she decided to look for the high priestess Mubera. After all, they both had unsettled conversations which were yet to be tackled.
Kitanna was halfway to the shrine when she saw people moving in and out of the royal prison; she hid behind one of the pillars, trying not to make a sound.
’This won’t do!’ Kitanna muttered under her breath; she ran back to her room to retrieve her Tizona, but when she got back to the prison, the prisoners were now escaping on horses.
Kitanna didn’t have the chance to alert Nix; she mounted her own horse and chased after them. It was dark between midnight, a time when everyone in the palace must have slept off.
Kitanna tried to catch a glimpse of who it was who helped them escape, but the whole place was dark. She galloped on her horse trying to catch up with them.
The men who helped in the escape turned back to stop the princess from chasing them; Kitanna fought her way through. She was rough and fast; she didn’t want to lose trace of Almaria and her cousin. After bringing down the men, Kitanna hit her horse with her legs, chasing after the troupe of fugitives.
Kitanna spiraled Tizona, and cast it to the front. Even if she didn’t get everyone, she wanted to make sure she caught at least one person. And luckily, her sword caught someone; she dragged the person back.
"Ah!" Misam screamed when she felt the sword on her neck; she held it so it won’t pierce deeper inside her throat.
"Help me!" Misam had screamed, but nobody stopped to help her out, and Kitanna knew it was just two of them.
She dismounted her horse and dragged Misam down, but she let her guard down, unbeknownst to her, Misam hid a small knife in her gown, which she used to cut Kitanna the moment she was dragged down.
Kitanna winced in pain, but she didn’t let go. She tightened her grip on Misam’s neck, dragging her back to the road that led to the palace. But unlike the fast horses they were using, their feet were very slow, and both of them were now losing blood.
Kitanna continued to drag the young woman who still held the knife to her stomach. The princess fell on the ground and coughed blood, but she didn’t let go. Kitanna didn’t know how much time had passed, but when she saw the moon moving for the warm morning sun to appear, she prayed that someone would find her soon and they did. The guards of Morado found her, but she couldn’t give in yet until she sees Nix. He was the only person she trusted in the palace.
Back to the present moment, Kitanna coughed blood, her hands were now trembling she couldn’t hold on any longer.
One of the guards noticed this and said, "Your highness, the white Lord is on his way. Let’s get you treated first" he said worriedly, with the way things were going the princess wouldn’t make it as even her captor had now stopped shouting but reserving her breathe which was now shallow.
Kitanna didn’t say anything again, she didn’t have the strength to talk.
"Woah woah" everyone turned when they saw the person they’ve been waiting for finally arrive. Without waiting for the horse to stop, Nix jumped down and ran to where Kitanna was lying in her own pool of blood.
"Nix" Kitanna let out a dry smile when she saw the man she had been waiting for, her words were slow and calm.
"You did well" Nix praised her, tucking her hair which was flying carelessly and some which got stuck on her face due to sweat.
Kitanna smiled when she heard Nix’s comment. It warmed her heart, slowly she gave in to the urge to close her eyes.
